“Started out in a little "hot dog" wagon, but it's grown into a nice little restaurant!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

This little "country" restaurant started out on the side of the road in a little "hot dog" wagon with a smoker in back , serving only on the weekends. They serve fresh smoked ribs, pork, beef, chicken, ham and sausage (and getting that right is not easy, but they do a great job!!), salads/wraps, ribeye steake and sandwiches served in little baskets along with the customary sides. They serve it with a homemade BBQ sauce that has a pinch of cinnamon in it! Great homemade sides and Schwan's Pie's for desert. The meat is so tender and juicy and it's always very consistent. They will even smoke your turkey or ham for you for the holidays!
Further, the food was so good and reasonably priced it caught on very quickly and they had expand and build a nice brick building to serve all their customers. It's a little out of the way but well worth the trip. It's near Rodman Reservoir's boat ramp and camp ground, Rodman Dam which has a boat ramp for access to the Oklawaha River, so it gets a lot of out of town fisherman as well as local folks. It's also near Rodehavers Boys Ranch which holds an annual Blue Grass festival and other activities thru the year.
The most unique offering is Roasted Peanuts in the Shell which comes to the table in a little bucket. They still encourage you to through the shells on the floor!! She has a lot of unique "country type" items, jams, jellies, candies, homemade canned items, old time little games, brain teaser games and unusual nicknacks for sale as well. It's decorated in an old fashion country way, red checkered table cloths, wagon wheels, old tools, articles/pictures of the area and unusual things on the wall and on the porch. Great friendly service at pretty reasonable prices.
I highly recommend it if your traveling on SR 20, CR315, CR 310 or even SR19, it's just south of Interlachen, less than a mile east of the intersection at CR310 and CR315. If your going to the Azalea Festival, visiting the State Parks in the area, attending or entered in the National Bass Fishing Tournament, riding your motorcycle or going to/from Daytona Beach, Ocala, Gainesville or Palatka, this little side trip for lunch or dinner is a beautiful drive!
I might add the owners still cook and wait tables!! They are also very involved with and care about this community! Go to their website for hours and menu's and events!

“Dirty”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013 via mobile

The food is good, but the place seems gross and dirty. After looking at the filthy menu I had to wash my hands. It's hard to keep an appetite.

“Good food in a pleasant setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013 via mobile

Backwoods Smokehouse offers a full array of barbecued and/or smoked ribs, chicken, beef, and turkey. Our group enjoyed a pleasant and relaxing lunch. The food was good, service was very friendly, portions were generous, and prices were reasonable. The decor features Floridiana, and is quite tasteful. There is also an assortment of jams, jellies, honey, and pie fillings from which to choose. It is a bit off the beaten path, but if you are in the area it is well-worth a stop

“Wonderful Destination for a Ride Through Old Florida”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

Food was great. People were very nice. Scenic ride for a motorcyclist or bicycle tour. Great as a half way stopover from Orlando to Jacksonville trip. Deserts looked great. BarBeQue was just right, and the sides were homemade good. They had facilities to handle large groups. Had nice games out back for the kids. I will be back with my friends.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012 via mobile

I don't know why this place hasn't been on "diners, drive-ins, & dives." It was so great! The food was Amazing! Play a game of skee ball in the room out back to make room for more ribs! Baked beans- wow! Conversation with the nice guy who does the smokin of the meat was so fun! Told us all about catchin alligators! Would definitely go back!
