Another top Favorite!!!

Our family of four (two teens) happened upon the Salt Rock Grill completely accidentally. While searching for a different restaurant (we were not familiar with the area) and dodging construction on Gulf Blvd., we missed our intended target, but followed the car in front of us into the Salt Rock Grill parking lot in order to turn around. We decided, once we saw the minions of cars in the parking lot, that perhaps we should give this place a try. Could the whole world be wrong?

Apparently not. From the minute we were seated at a lovely table for four overlooking the waterway, (no reservations, of course, but who would have thought any restaurant would be rockin' like this one -- on a Tuesday night?) we were treated to excellent service and scrumptious food and drinks.

We ordered the macadamia nut encrusted wahoo, the lump crab cakes, lobster and crab pasta and grilled amberjack. The fish was fresh, fresh, fresh, though my wahoo was a bit overdone for my liking. The amberjack, too seemed a bit dry. Crab cakes were reportedly delicious and stuffed full of crab meat, and the seafood pasta had a delicious cream sauce that tasted sinful, and, I am sure, went straight to the hips. Lots of crab and lobster.

For dessert, we ordered a couple of pieces of Key Lime Pie (with Lorna Doone crust! YUM!), the creme brulee and a slab of their triple chocolate truffle cake. Having tasted them all, I can clearly tell you that even if you skipped dinner, visiting the SRG just for dessert would be worth the trip.

Service was excellent. Prices are $$$-$$$$.

We left well sated and ready to return -- as soon as I lose the 5 pounds I'm sure I gained tonight!

The seafood here is absolutely phenomenal! The best I have ever had by far! The interior is beautiful, and the service is excellent. Highly recomended!

We have been to this area in Florida twice in 2 months. We were not about to let an opportunity go by for us to try this restaurant which was "all the rage" and had high marks re: reviews.
What a disappointment and I am sorry we went. We will not be back.
We made reservations days in advance and were sat in a corner booth where we had no view, other than the misbehaved kids in front of us at the next table.
The waiter was only adequate and added nothing to our experience. Service was OK.
Drinks from the bar menu were BAD - hard to choke down.
We ordered the grouper chowder we had been excited to try. Terrible. It was like a veggie soup, no creaminess to it, very small shreds of fish with no fish taste to the soup.
The salad plates were warm and the salad soggy from sitting too long with the dressing on it already (the house).
I had the swordfish. It was OK but the garlic mashed that came with it were oversalted and cold. The plate overall had no presentation and was hardly worth $23 with 2 pieces of asparagus on it. My fiance had the grilled snapper which was OK too but he too had cold oversalted potatoes.
Save your money and dine elsewhere. We have no idea what all the fuss is about.
