“Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

We recently stayed at this hotel after a cruise out of Fort Lauderdale. The rooms were large and clean and modern. The pool and outside patio bar and large seating area are very nice. Staff at the front desk very helpful. Lobby large and open. The hotel was good value for the dollar based on the onsite premises. The evening menu looked nice with a variety of choices. I did not get to try the breakfast due to our early departure.

Now just a couple of issues to take away that last star. If you arrive without a car, there is no easy access to shopping or dining. You can walk about a mile crossing extremely busy intersections to get to multiple dining choices but you run the gambit of encountering unsavoury drunken street people like I did. I would take a cab for the short ride next time. Live and learn.

Also the airport shuttle is not offered around the clock so if you have a very early morning flight, it is taxi time and that will run you about $25.00.

So by car, all good, on foot not so much. Still overall a very nice hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to write about your stay at the Holiday Inn Airport and Cruise Port. We value your feedback. Your kind words are encouraging. They are a reflection of hard work and dedication from our staff. Oakwood Plaza about 1.2 miles away from our hotel. A taxi cab will coast $8 to $10. I apologize you had a hard time finding transportation. Our front office staff is very knowledgable in this area. To meet the needs of our guests they can offer many transportation companies. It will be a pleasure to have you stay with us again. We are eager to making your next visit award winning.

The hotel was nice. It was clean and the staff were very friendly. The food at the restaurant is good - except for the burgers. There are no convenient fast food or restaurants around - there is a Denny's across the street but it was old and run down. Be sure you have a rental car if you stay here for any length of time, the limited menu at the restaurant is expensive and get's old fast. The restaurant does offer a very nice breakfast buffet for a price.

Also, I found the sound proofing in the rooms NON-EXISTANT. I could literally hear the man in the room next to me snoring all night <sigh>. You hear doors open and slam close all night and people in the hallways at all hours. Bring a white noise machine or ear plugs to drown out the sounds or you will never sleep.

Room Tip: Sorry no tips, just be sure to bring ear plugs or a white noise maker since you can hear every sound...

We chose this hotel because of its great reviews. We stayed here one night before leaving for Miami. The bed is insanely comfortable, the room was clean and we were able to check in earlier than expected. The bathroom we had looked newly remodeled, and was also very clean. Bill at the front desk was awesome, and made sure we had everything we needed. Everyone here was nice and helpful. The pool and hot tub were very nice, the back yard is absolutely beautiful. Breakfast was great the food tasted fresh and was well prepared. Definitely would stay again.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the back, and bring a sweater in the hallways, they're freezing.

after a slight snafu on where to stand at the airport to catch the free shuttle we arrived. lovely rooms on the top floor. sat at the pool enjoying frozen drinks to get in the cruise/vacation mood. great weather, waterfall, palm trees - whats not to like. had an enjoyable dinner at the hotel restaurant- great service. ate there in the am as it was included with out room price- bkf buffet. paid for shuttle to the cruise pier. door to door service. not a complaint about this facility except for the bed. neither my husband or i could find any comfortable position. roomswere clean, nice large bathroom - with a phone. great way to start our vacation week.

Room Tip: top floor facing the pool is more desirable than looking at the traffic pool area was lovely

I was not happy with my recent stay at this hotel. There are just too many other hotels to stay prior to leaving on a cruise. For over $200.00 a night I would think they would at least include a continental breakfast but this is not the case. Yep, thats right you pay $6.95 just for coffee and some so so danish etc. If you wanted a full breakfast the price was much higher.
I made the mistake of having dinner in their restaurant. Nothing fancy just a cheeseburger and fries for me and chicken parm for my wife. IT TOOK CLOSE TO 2 HRS FOR DINNER TO ARRIVE. The topper was I had to sent the fries back because they were ice cold. Oh yeah, the cheeseburger was like $15.00
I understand the concept of supply and demand. There were many cruises leaving the next day so they can make prices pretty much what they want but I was expecting a better experience for the dollas paid. If you are looking for a precruise hotel I would look at another hotel chain.

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. Please accept my sincere apology about your not enjoying your stay. I'm concerned about the issues you have raised and I find myself letting guests know that a Holiday Inn concept is a full service hotel that does not give a complimentary breakfast like the limited service hotel concept like Holiday Inn Express. I have researched your stay and have addressed the issue in the restaurant. Thank you for your comments.

Sincerely,

The hotel was ok overall and as someone has recently pointed out it is a Holiday Inn and not the Ritx. However, I travel a lot and it was still not quite what I expected. Rooms were clean and the pool at night did seem to be as nice as the photos would suggest but we were unable to use it due to flight delays. One room still had pieces of a broken beer bottle on the carpet but otherwise were clean enough and it sufficed for a simple one night stay.
But we ran into multiple issues that took the edge off. Booked months ago and called the hotel three times to confirm would get rooms at least on same floor and preferably adjoining as family trip. But when arrived rooms were on 2nd and 5th floors with no options to change. Thanks to flight delay we arrived late at around 1030pm. Although the bar/pool features prominently in the appeal of the website the bar was already closed even though it was a Saturday night. We were directed to a nearby gas station to be able to get a beer to unwind after 13 hours of traveling.
It was easy to call the hotel from the airport to arrange a shuttle and we were provided with easy directions in that call on where to go for pickup with pickup only a few minutes later. The van that picked us up however was highly concerning with seats with no springs, duct tape around the head rests, etc and seemed a safety issue - it also created a very poor first impression.
The restaurant was closed when we arrived and appeared quite small and dark in the morning to the point that we simply went to the Denny's across the street.
Curious pattern that others have mentioned police presence as well. Three cars there when arrived and one still parked out front when we left. We did not have any safety issues/concerns but it is curious.
The hotel provided a shuttle to the cruise port at $8US per person which was a good price and the shuttle the next day was a nice vehicle and made it easy to get to the port. Note that you have to book this shuttle the night before. We were advised by the desk to be down at 950am for departure at 10am but when arrived at 945am they were already doing last call for our shuttle and we were required to leave without a bill in order to catch it. Although promised a bill by email it has not yet been forwarded. Currently trying to get clarification on charges applied to credit card explained/resolved.
We were taking a cruise and this hotel is further than many from the cruise port. Comparison by websites had us thinking it would be a good way to unwind after traveling. It was ok but not what we were expecting overall and in hind site we should have stayed at a hotel closer to the cruise port.

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. Please accept my sincere apology on your first impressions. I'm concerned about the issues you have raised and have addressed each issue. I would like to say we have always provided security for all of our guests and staff. We employee detailed police officers do this security and the area in which our hotel is located is safe. I apoloogize you came in to late in the evening to enjoy the restaurant and our lounge. I have also addressed with the housekeeping on your findings. Thank you again.

This hotel is about 15 minutes from Fort Lauderdale Airport. My first impression was not a good one as we waited for over an hour for the Hotel bus to take us from the airport to the hotel, which we were told would be 15-20 minutes.
The bus came at last and though the driver was quite pleasant the bus is somewhat rundown and is in need of interior maintenance.

We arrived at the hotel and the ambiance was a relief since we expected a rundown property to match the bus.
The rooms are spacious ,the linens were crisp and comfortable and the pillows on the bed were attractively labeled "soft" and " firm"so one can select according to ones preference.

A lavish amount of coffee was provided ,all the glasses were individually wrapped. This compensated for the fact that they were like paper cups.

There is ready internet access . The bath room is quite spacious but the sink is outside the bathroom and doubles for a kitchen sink and a wash basin!

The general decor is average .The grounds were well kept .There is a patio and pool in a small garden.

If you are looking for a convenient place to stay near to the airport i would recommend this hotel but be sure to leave early with the shuttle for your flight since the route to the airport crosses a train line and your journey may be interrupted for as much as 20 minutes as the road is closed to permit a very long cargo train to pass.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the pool provides a tropical view..
