“Excellent pre-cruise hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2012

My wife and I stayed at this La Quinta for three nights before our Panama Canal cruise. We found it to be a very nice place to stay before a cruise out of Port Everglades. The hotel offers a free airport shuttle. We called when we arrived, and the shuttle was there 10 minutes later. We also took a shuttle to the ship. The hotel uses a private company for this. You don't ride in their hotel shuttle. You need to make a reservation for a specific time when you check into the hotel. We made reservations on the 9:45am shuttle. It arrived at 9:30am, and we were at the cruise terminal a little after 10am. The Port Everglades shuttle is free as well, but we did tip the driver.

The hotel itself is quite nice. The room we had was on the fourth floor, and had a nice view of the pool area, and the lake that's right behind the property. The room looked like it was recently re-modeled. It had an oversize work desk, comfortable bed and chair. There is a sort of a foyer area that has a closet and a cupboard with a microwave and fridge. The bathroom and shower were nice as well.

The hotel offers a good, but basic breakfast. There were two waffle machines, along with the usual cereal, fruit and bread items you'll find in most hotel breakfasts. The breakfast area is right in the lobby, and has plenty of tables. This is probably because of the cruise ship crowd. Out behind the hotel is a very nicely landscaped outdoor seating area, along with a good sized pool.

We had two full days before the cruise, and found the hotel to be very convenient to the Broward County Bus line. One day we took it over to Hollywood Beach. The other day, we took the bus over to the Tri-Rail commuter train which took us down to Miami. Very easy to explore by bus from this hotel. There are also a number of restaurants a short walk from the hotel. We ate at Sweet Tomatoes, Sal's Italian Restaurante and TGIFridays. We were a bit disappointed in Sal's. But we had a 2 for 1 coupon, so it wasn't all bad. There's also a Red Lobster in the same shopping center.

Overall, we were very happy with our stay at this La Quinta. And we thought the price was good for the area as well. I priced a lot of hotels, before choosing this La Quinta. It was much cheaper then the hotels that were closer to the cruise terminal. But with the free shuttles from the airport and to the ship, it didn't matter that it was a bit out of the way.

This hotel has so much to do around it. You could walk to a movie theater or Dave and Busters. The room was clean and spacious. The breakfast was OK ..nothing special but still welcome for a quick bite on our way out. It is are new go-to hotel when visiting family.

We were pleasantly surprised by the location and the quality of the rooms. We changed to this place at the last minute and were happy with the choice. We based it on previous reviews and they were spot on. A short walk to many restaurants and some shopping. A longer walk or short bus ride to the boardwalk at Hollywood Beach. A free shuttle to and from the airport and to the cruiseport at Ft. Lauderdale, but we were out of Miami. Had to pay for a shuttle. The hotel booked it for us. Another couple were in the van with us. They were charged five dollars more for the same trip. Not sure if they booked through the hotel or not. Breakfast was of very good quality although the breakfast area is a bit small and if the weather is not great, can be crowded with future cruisers staying at the tables drinking coffee and waiting to catch the shuttle. Don't know if the hotel can do anything about that.

La Quinta Inn is located only 10 min drive from Ft Lauderdale Airport and is short walking distance to shopping & good restaurants (try the Sweet Tomato for an excellent low cost & delicious all-you-can-eat buffet!) at nearby mall. It's quiet & safe...the hotel pool overlooks a little lake. Rooms are very spacious & attractive (recently renovated ?)....beds comfortable. Staff exceptionally pleasant and helpful. Stayed two nights as starting & end point for drive to Florida Keys. Overall, a great airport hotel and with complimentary breakfast, good value for the money! Highly recommended.

I was a little concerned about staying at a motel with such low room rates. I didn't want to stay right in Miami where I was to conduct business the next day. This was within close proximity to my destination and I felt there may be less security issues in this area. The motel was immaculate, inside and out. The rooms were comfortable and super clean. Comfortable beds. Complimentary breakfast was very fresh and presented good selections. Staff was busy but very accomodating and polite. The room rates did not reflect the quality of the motel. I would have paid much more to stay in Miami and the rooms would have left much to be desired. (speaking from experience)
Close to good restaurants and shopping if desired. Very safe and secure. Would recommend to anyone and will deffinately choose this motel for future stays in the Miami area.

Like others have said, this hotel really caters to the cruise crowd, which is exactly why we chose to stay there the evening before our cruise. Although we had to wait 45 minutes at the airport for the hotel shuttle after they were called, it was at least free, as was their shuttle from the hotel to the cruise ship. There's real value in that, as many other hotels in the area charge for that service.

The hotel itself was nicer than expected -- check-in/out was a breeze, the rooms were large and surprisingly attractive, and ours overlooked the hotel pool, with a nice little lake/lagoon behind it. Breakfast was included -- the Belgian waffle makers were a nice touch! There also seemed to be plenty of shopping and restaurants within walking distance.

Downsides? The only things that really stood out were the pokey airport shuttle mentioned earlier (although in fairness, it was pretty busy at the airport at the time), and fixtures in the bathroom (faucets, toilet, shower) which appeared old, clunky to use, and in need of replacement.

Overall, good airport hotel and considering the free shuttle and breakfast, a good value for the money!
