“Fantastic Hotel-Will Return !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2010

My husband and I just returned from a 5 night stay at the Riptide. Upon check-in, we knew we were going to enjoy our stay. Our first floor oceanfront room was very clean and bright. The bathroom was rather small, but also clean with nice big bath towels and toiletries. The kitchenette had everything you would need for your stay. The housekeeping staff works very hard and always had our room clean with fresh towels, first thing in the morning.
The Tiki Bar is a great place to get a drink and relax, listening to live music, one during the day and another at night. The barmaids were super friendly and always had kind words for you.
The best part of our stay was the beautiful beach that was 39 steps from our hotel door!
The hotel supplies bikes, beach chairs, beach towels, and even suntan lotion! We felt spoiled. This hotel, along with most of the Hollywood hotels are small, family owned hotels. If you want the big, high-rise with no personality, then you'll want to check into the Marriott down the street, but if your looking for a clean, fun, with lots of extras, than stay at the Riptide. We definately will be returning!

We also read all the great reviews on Trip Advisor and booked this place because of it. The positive things I can say - location is great - right on the beach, free parking on-site and the Tiki Bar looked like it could be fun - it was too cold while we were there to enjoy it. But that was it - On the negative side - the place is basically a 50's style motel - not by any stretch of the imagination a "hotel" and the room we had was old, shabby, had seen better times. It didn't appear to be very clean and the soap left in the shower had been previously used - yuck! It felt like we had moved into a room that someone had been living in (and not looking after very well). If it had been cheap, we could have accepted this as what you get for the price, but it was almost the same price as our room in South Beach. Not good! Check-in was easy but the front desk seemed a little indifferent to your needs - almost too casual. Bottom line - if you want to stay on the Boardwalk, look elsewhere for your accommodation and then drop by at night for a drink in the Tiki Bar (nice people & good tunes)

My elderly Mom and I stayed here in October. We planned a 5 day trip and extended it to 10 days! We loved everything about it, the location, the tiki bar, the music and the clean spacious rooms. Each room has a kitchenette which is very well equipped. The resort offers free chairs and bicycles and my Mom forgot sun screen and they even offered that. Fresh large beach towels are also supplied. You are steps away from the beach and beautiful sunrises.
The music is great, acoustic music during the day and on weekends bands. All very talented. The music stops by 10 or 11-plenty of time to get your beauty sleep.
The staff treats you like family. They go out of their way to be helpful. As I said, I was traveling with my Mom and they always kept an eye out to help her with any packages or just a hand to get up the stairs. Scott the owner would try to save a spot for us nearby so that she wouldn't have to walk too far. They do make sure that the motel guests get the spots close by anyway.
We just booked 10 days for this October and can't wait to get there.

We booked this "hotel" based on the glowing reviews. The main bedroom reeked of some kind of strong cleaner. The bathroom window was cracked. The toilet made a horrible high pitched noise that lasted 20 to 30 seconds when flushed. When I mentioned this to Scott he answered flippantly and said no one ever complained about that in 30 years and he would look into it the next day. We had to live without flushing in the middle of the night. My neighbor said her friends had the same problem in their room also. It was cold at night and they do not have heated rooms so they provide space heaters, which are small, but pack a powerful hum. The worst experience came at night, however, when our upstairs neighbors paced almost nonstop with their shoes on and we heard every clop. They must have rested a bit because we did hear the chair scrape from time to time. We hardly slept. We talked to their next door neighbor the next day who was also kept up by the bizarre pacing. We complained and were told there was nothing they could do and the only other room they had would be noisy too. We did receive our money back. It was aggravating to have to search for a new place, pack up and move. We stayed elsewhere on the boardwalk for the rest of our vacation for the same price as the Rip Tide and it had more amenities, was more up-to-date, cleaner and quieter. We were fortunate to find the place during a busy season. If you want a good night's sleep, don't take a chance on the place. If you want more for your money, keep looking.

We were at the Riptide this past weekend and of course had cool weather but the sun did shine most of the time. The rooms were ok, the bathrooms were very, very small. They have newer rooms next door but did not get to see them but I think they are much larger and nice and more expensive . The tiki bar was nice but I think I will try another hotel if we go back. The boardwalk was nice and we enjoyed walking up and down to see all that was there. We spent a day at Gulfstream horse track and that was beautiful! Over all hotel was just ok, for it to be the number one hotel on tripadvisor!

Right away you can tell you are at a different kind of place at the Riptide. The Tiki bar is certainly the centerpiece of the property, with the Hollywood boardwalk and beach just steps away.

I prepaid for my room online. When I walked into the main desk area, I was asked my name and given a key and given access to all their extra amenities, such as bicycles, use of their grill, beach chairs, etc. No red tape or anything. There was just something about it.

My room opened up right into the main patio / tiki bar area. In that regard it is more like a "motel", but it has a great homey feel to it.

In the room there were two queen beds and a nice kitchen area. Bonus for there being ice already in the freezer.

I was only at the Riptide for 1 night so I could not take full advantage of all its offerings, but I will be sure to return.

The Riptide is a nice laidback place to stay.Very friendly people who really get out of their way to help you with everything. Nice and clean rooms, a small but well equipped kitchen. Parking is reserved for quests and you can borrow beachtowels, chairs and bicycles free of charge. For us 50+ was the entertainment in the Tiki bar perfect, we knew all the lyrics!!
The location is the best, you cross the broadwalk ond you´re on the beautiful beach. We will be back!!
