“Great place for normal people”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

I don't know why anyone would give this place a bad review. For the price it's great. I would recommend that you bring your own towels and hygiene products other then that this place is great it comes equipped with a kitchenette fridge microwave and cable. And the supermarket accepts food stamps (snap) wifi I love this place the location is great I will definitely be coming here again . I didn't really eat out much because my husband and I love to cook the kitchenette has 2 pots silverware and dishes . It's a great place . The only people whom would complain are spoiled people whom expect alot for a little.

Well, where to start, location is everything and mostly that can overshadow most all... but not in the case of the staff at this hotel! Initially thought it was a one person issue at check in, NOPE, I think being rude is in their hiring training! Check in was full of attitude, check out full of more than attitude and in-between was in-between. Pre-booked a ocean view, nope, paid for it but didn't get it. Want extra towels, expect 1.5-2hr wait. Hotel is older, and needs some update but in general pay the $10 extra and go get some polite service down the street.

Room Tip: Doesn't matter, you wont get what you ask for anyway.

Thank you for taking the time to give us some feedback on your experience with us. I see that you did give us good ratings in many areas, but 'service' was one area that we did fall short. We understand that problem and all staff are going through 'Customer Service' training program which we are confident will alleviate the issues in that area. Please accept my apology that we did not meet you service level standards.

How do I write this and it not sound too bad. The location was perfect, the night manager, George, was fantastic. Now the bad stuff, there is not any Wifi in any of the rooms, 1 day we did not get our room cleaned, another day we had to hunt do the housemaids to clean the room. Made the reservation thru Orbitz, was promised a Queen room, not a petite room. The bed was so small I could lay in it and touch both ends. No closet in the room at all. Only 1 ice machine on the 7th level. I had a great time because of the location.

Room Tip: Make sure you talk directly to the hotel and get it in writing, I even had mine in writing from Orbi...

Thank you for your comments regarding our property. Yes, you are correct, it is a great location and George does a fine job for us - we are lucky to have him. We are also in the process of adding new housekeeping staff along with weeding out the less professioanl staff. These measures will improve our housekeeping performance.
Thank you again for taking the time to express your comments.

Lived here all my life and have seen this go from hotel to bible college to hotel/ condos . Incredibly sad to see it run the way it is. Could easily be a goldmine but needs capital Infusion. To be fair, I can see some efforts - they have redone walls and ceilings with knockdown. They've put crown molding in..the efficiency style kitchens are hit of miss. We had 12 rooms some had wood n granite with microwave and small gas stoves. others had more dated kitchens. Most rooms are tile floors which is ok but not all are clean . Upgraded floor molding would enhance room appearance. If you rent thru a condo owner you are prob better off than those of us who could not get toilet paper, towels, blankets. All rooms do not have same bedding amenities . Normally we remove the spread due to germ horror stories but our room only had a sheet and the spread. We were blessed with a great a/c that delivered 70 degrees the whole time. At least 5 people in our party switched rooms bcs initial room was unacceptable. This was done rather easily by desk help that takes the brunt of some awful treatment by some frustrated unhappy guests. It's really not their fault but they are the face of the brand to the customer. On more than one occasion dirty towels removed not replaced with any new towels. Some towels were like small mats, maybe face towel size. well worn what you might use as a cleaning rag in your own home. There is a convenient store in lobby with beverages as well as sundries. Food out by pool is quite decent and affordable. A few beach clothing shops on site reasonably priced. Free breakfast buffet is a complete joke as people are told to wait for them to bring food to you but service exceptionallyslow and then they try to say. Breakfast Over Now !before guests waiting over half an gourmet food. You are not allowed to self serve. There are no directions how to call front desk so we had to call valet pkg to get routed to them. Walls are thin we were woken at 3 am by partiers returning from a nite out laughing hysterically behind their closed doors with at least 8 people in their room for another hour before returning to their own rooms.. no shade area by pool. Sad because the pool area is nice. no balconies but understandable due to age of hotel. Should really be called a motel. Not in any way on the scale of a hotel or resort. The location and views, along with being in the Hollywood broadwalk are phenomenal . If you only want to be at the best location and will be out of the room most of the time returning for a quick nites sleep then this is a lower cost option decent choice provided you bring your own towel and soap. Fortunately I live here and could bring that along after hearing early arrival complaints from our group. The heavy presence of security guards by the room elevator access was unnerving. My take was that perhaps homeless May try to sneak in and get lost upstairs. Just my perception, can't confirm that to be the case . Can't imagine who could actually own this piece of history and be proud of what they have allowed it to become . With all of that said, if you having a large group event and need to keep the price down or else some can't attend, then this is the way to go. Otherwise, for another 150 a nite night book the marriot up the street for a higher quality experience . Do not recommend for a honeymoon or if you are hoping to impress someone.

Room Tip: Specify bed size and oceanfront. Beds are actually comfy but squeaky . If you plan on getting busy y...

We are late 30s. This Place has phenomenal location. The boardwalk behind the hotel is absolutely fantastic for eating, drinking, child friendly and beach access. The rates of the hotel can vary depending where or what engine site you use for booking your nightly rate. I would not pay more than $75 a night. You get hit also with $10.00 daily resort fee and parking is $18 valet or $15 garage. (Opt for valet choice better value n no tipping necessary) The front desk gets very crowded all the time . The free breakfast in the morning is served Beachside at a restaurant directly behind the hotel. It is a very modest free breakfast, more like a snack, but it's okay. Good specials on boardwalk for breakfast. Eat great fish n seafood at MGowans Tiki. The rooms have their challenges, the place was built in 1925!! the higher you go the better that you will be. We opted for no beach side view, to save some money. The Street view was just fantastic as well. The poolside was clean and very child friendly with an enormous Jacuzzi. If you're looking for action and dancing; Bayside is only 25 minutes away, and if you like dancing there are plenty of clubs around in downtown Miami; not a bad drive. Iguana Cafe Latin in Pembroke Pines was awesome on Saturday night! Bayside in dwntwn Miami offered all kinds of clubs n drinking places. During the day you could take boat rides to tour Miami and its surroundings for modest pricing out of Bayside. Bahamas cruises out of Ft. Lauderdale in the Ferryexpress. The room we had on the seventh floor was fantastic and ample space. It was acceptably clean and no complaints there, however the in room safe did not work right and we had to wait for it to get opened. Find a good rate around $60 a night with coupon clips or by checking different engine sites. Very child friendly place. For us is a romantic get away. Make the best of it, The place is hystoric n has its challenges, but the rooms have been updated very well, comfortable bed and I had no real complaints about the service. We focused more on us and the location. We will go back every year.

Pros: price; beach bar; best bartender on the beach; beachfront location; A/C; lifts; ice machine; pool; convenience items; coffee shops; security
Cons: condo association/hotel confusing; abandoned mall; housekeeping; condition of bathrooms; odors; transient guests
Horrible: waitstaff and kitchen stand during breakfast - don't bother - go elsewhere on the beach if you wish to pay for breakfast

BEYOND HORRIBLE!!!!!
Miami Historic Hollywood Beach Resort is the worse place you can ever imagine! When we entered the building we were hit with strong smell of Clorox and wet mold at the same time. Hotel is so poorly managed that you would hardly find a clean spot anywhere. Restrooms in Lobby area are naughty and for the time we stayed there have never been cleaned. But let me start from the beginning. We arrived at the Hollywood Beach around 12 noon. Unprofessional and lazy girls at front desk (Kim and Jessica) could not find our reservation from Expedia and we were sent to the next door to look for our reservation. The property is owned by separate entities sharing common amenities and those reservation system are not linked. They make their guests go back and force and waste their time. We spent another 1,5 hour at second desk and were turned back to previous desk with two helpless ladies. Finally, the manager got involved and we were given room #467.
It came out very outdated room with holes on a floor, very thin walls (you literally can hear your neighbor from next room turning book pages) missing tile parts in bathroom, just two little towels and very badly smelling air. A/C thermostat was showing 79 degrees but it felt like 90. We tried to lower it but no luck. We asked cleaning lady to show us how to turn a/c on and got an answer: “it’s not my job”. We called front desk… probably there is no reason to mention that nobody answered. No problem, we went downstairs. We asked for beach towels (since it was a resort and you get charged daily for resort fee) and to fix our a/c.

We didn’t get beach towels because there were out of it and we were offered to ask cleaning lady for extra towels, the maintenance for a/c was on its way. So we went to look for cleaning lady who was also out of ANY towels besides the one little 10’’ x 10’’ face towel, which was generously offered. We went to gift shop and purchased beach towels. Few hours later when we returned to the room a/c still wasn’t working and air in the room was significantly higher. We called again to get a/c fixed. To make the very long story short it was never fixed and around 2 a.m. I went downstairs.
We were moved to room #602: it was almost back to 'normal'. We still could not get beach towels. The reason was provided to us at the front desk is too many people. So why we were charged resort fees.???
We went to the beach prior to our departure. When we came back our room was not cleaned, no need to explain that we were out of any clean towels. We jumped into the shower, there was no cold water. We had to wash soap off with hot water and almost got 2nd degree burns. The front desk explained that hotel had to turned (!) cold water off because of the water leak. They probably have never heart that note about absence of cold water might save your guests of hot water burns.
We had no patient anymore and asked for manager, manager was out. We asked was General manager- GM was also out. We requested email of upper management. We tried to resolve issues and get some credit (at least resort fees) from floor manager but were told to contact manager Jerry Walker who didn’t bother himself with an answer. And now few weeks later we feel we have to warn the world from staying there.
People, if you ever consider Miami Historic Hollywood Beach Resort please stay away from that “hotel”. It much better to sleep on a beach; it’s cleaner, nicer, you have fresh air and nice breeze and you will not have to deal with unprofessional staff of poorly managed hotel.
But if you have to be ready for the worse!
