I stayed here three nights for a conference. I got a corner balcony room, which was very nice inside, had a large bathroom, very comfortable king bed, and a huge balcony with a street view on one side (which was nice), and an ocean view on the other side, which was very pretty. The pools on the property are great, and having beach access right there was awesome. You can sit anywhere on the beach for free, unless you want one of the lounge chairs - in which case the Diplomat will charge you $15 a day, per chair.
The conference facilities were very nice, although the rooms were SO COLD! So Cold! It was in the upper 80s outside, and I was sitting in a conference room, wearing a thick sweater, and was still shivering cold.
Downside is the cost - I would never have been able to stay here if my employer hadn't covered the cost of the room ($840 for 3 nights, which is a discounted rate because of the conference block).

This was our fourth time at The Diplomat, but first time since Hilton took over.
Generally speaking, this is a fine resort, provided you like large resorts, and certainly one of the best beach locations in the area. Nothing really significant has changed under Hilton so far. The biggest changes we could see was that the Deli – called Fresh - seemed to have improved a lot and the pools now have no child-free sections (which could be good or bad, depending on your point of view). I personally thought that the previous idea of having one of the main pools a quieter adult zone was a good plan.
Dining was average big resort stuff. The Diplomat Prime was the usual steak, lobster, seafood type of fine dining, with a fairly high price tag and not too much atmosphere.
The massive lobby atrium area is impressive and a fantastic place to spend some time away from heat and humidity. The bar is right there too and there are great water features and a really airy atmosphere about the whole place. If there was a “best lobby award” The Diplomat would be right up there.
Outside by the pools and the ocean is Splash, which is my favourite pool bar. Very good service, cocktails and tasty lunches. We enjoyed that a couple of times.
Breakfast options are à la carte or a buffet at the The Café (why is that French styled when there is nothing French about it?) But we took the Fresh Deli option both for in-room and in-atrium breakfasts. Great price and more wholesome food, unless you want the big cooked breakfast option. I also saw lines at peak times to get into The Café. No thanks.
Guestrooms seemed unchanged from the Westin Days, which was good in terms of the Heavenly Bed still being there, but maybe the rooms need a lick of paint now - nothing terrible, but just not spotless anymore. We had a direct ocean view room, which is well worth it to get all that light and view of the ocean.
In my view there is only one downside to this resort – the parking. Both valet and self-park are expensive (maybe not so much for Southern Florida, if that’s an excuse) but the real issue is that both are inconvenient.
The parking garage is in another building across the street, and it’s a wide, wide street. So if you pay for Valet, then you still have to wait 10 - 15 minutes or more to get the car. At weekends when the hotel has conventions, weddings and who knows what else that brings a thousand people, then the whole of the drive in front of the main entrance is swamped with cars, taxis, parking valets, bellmen, and a ton of luggage. When we arrived it was chaotic. In the end we self-parked. The problem with that is that they have arranged the garage such that to exit with a vehicle you have to drive a route that seems to visit at least 6 other areas on the way to a street exit. Whichever way you do it, when leaving by car, add another 20 minutes to your journey time.
Apart from my parking gripes above, I enjoyed everything about the Diplomat and would visit again. It’s a good location too, part-way between Fort Lauderdale and Miami, and right on that beach. As for price, excluding crazy holiday seasons, you can get good deals on rooms that make it seem pretty good value. And even after all these years the Diplomat has something of a “wow factor”.

Room Tip: Take an ocean view if you can

We really enjoyed this property. We came in the Saturday of Memorial weekend and the resort was booked solid. When we arrived we had a quick bite and a cocktail at he Cafe and totally enjoyed the food and also noticed they served very nice drinks. Due to the holiday weekend they had security at the pool entrances to make sure that only hotel quests had access. Later that night we had a marvelous dinner at Diplomat Prime. We left the resort for 2 days and went to Key West but returned midweek for 3 more night and that is when we really had the opportunity to enjoy the property and that is exactly what we did. The staff always had a smile and if we needed anything, well they delivered. I'm ready to go back.

My wife and I recently spent a couple nights at the Diplomat while attending a conference. Although the location and infrastructure of the hotel should make for a grand experience, ours was very mixed.

The Diplomat is affiliated with the Hilton family of hotels in some fashion.

We stayed in room 2945 in the South tower. The room itself was very nice, featuring an upscale bathroom and had a lovely view. Coffee in the room was better than average consisting of Starbucks Pike Place blend and the mini bar well stocked. The room was not moldy like so many beach front hotels in this category. Room cleanliness in general was good, furnishings and the bathroom looked like it must have been fairly recently redone. The room cleaning lady was extremely pleasant and helpful.

We did not visit the “fine dining" restaurant on the property, so cannot report on it. We did, however, visit the lobby bar and found it slightly odd. First, it is a dark and somewhat depressing space. When sitting at the bar, we were met by a very strong smell, which according to the staff, emanates from a blocked drain. For the first 30 minutes a TV blasted away with a crime show while the staff struggled to turn it down. Rap/disco music competing with a TV crime show did not elevate the atmosphere. There is a sushi bar but I do not recommend it. We tried the spicy tuna hand roll which was neither spicy nor contained much tuna. The wrapper was kind of soggy. We ordered Conch fritters from the other menu — really excellent. Folks from the pool area, in various degrees of undress, drifted in and out of the bar. As an example, one particularly unlovely barefoot woman in skimpy beach clothes walking a somewhat prettier dog came into the bar ranting loudly in Spanish about wanting another drink. Although some of the employees seemed relatively sullen, Jill at the bar was attentive and helpful.

The hotel has “events” right under the towers featuring very loud rap music. We asked for another room and were told that there were no rooms to move to and that the music was going to last until midnight. We packed to check-out and went to the front desk, where we were informed the music would stop at 10:00PM. The night manager seemed to think it was funny that we actually wanted to sleep in our hotel room. No apologies from front desk or night manager. Several friends attending the same conference also were complaining about the noise the next morning. Perhaps rooms in the South Tower get more noise from the parties? Not clear. Certainly do not stay here if you turn in early, or want to work in your room.

Two large pools very nice, 2 free towels for beach chairs. Some of the nicer chairs with cabana had a fee. The primary drawback to the pool areas and the deck overlooking the ocean was loud music. Is this better than the sound of the ocean?

Parking is not convenient to the hotel and valet parking is very expensive.

The fitness center was generally fine. I would liked more in the way of resistance training equipment, but was still quite adequate. As I recall, nearly all the machines were LifeFitness brand and in good condition. The spa was beautiful, recently refurbished. The spa can be used for free with a treatment or $35 if no treatment is purchased. However, the sauna temperature was set way too low.

As a Hilton Diamond, my wife and I received $15 breakfast vouchers which did not come close to covering the buffet ($26). That said, we were happy with the quality and variety at breakfast and did not mind paying the extra. The staff at breakfast was attentive.

So, in conclusion, we would probably not stay here again. Although it could be a special hotel, it fails at the most basic hotel function … sleep. For me, it is a 1-star hotel as I turn in early. I am sure that for others, this would not be a problem.

Room Tip: Try to get a room away from their event spaces. South Tower rooms facing the ocean were super noisy...

This is more of a convention hotel, which is fine, because convention attendees aren't in the restaurants or by the pool during the day - leaving more space for the rest of us. It's a lovely property with tall palm trees and soaring skylights in the lobby. OK, the rooms may be in need of the planned refreshing - but we stayed in a suite on the corner, with full view of the ocean. Unlike many in this area, this hotel is ON THE WATER. There are several pools, as well. We only ate breakfast in the restaurant and it was a nice buffet. The spa was really lovely - with excellent technicians and relaxing atmosphere. The concierge gave us helpful advice on restaurants, which we much appreciated. I'd go back to the Diplomat in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: I wanted to stay within view and sound of the ocean - mission accomplished!

My husband and I attended a conference at the Diplomat for 4 days. It is a beautiful property. We enjoyed our stay and convention activities. My favorite part of the room was the bathroom. It was so spacious and the tub opening up to the bedroom was awesome. The pool was the perfect tempurature. Hope to visit again.
