I was here for a conference and was blown away with the initial presentation of the grand building and lobby, then literally walking out of the back doors onto the beach - that was good. However the rooms were dated, the TV channels more limited than some much cheaper hotels I have used in the US and the service was hit and miss. Food and drinks were reasonably priced for a conference hotel but the choice of food wasn't brilliant. The conference rate was $300 a night and I think that was about 40% more than I was comfortable paying.

After a really fun cruise, it was nice to end our trip on Hollywood Beach. The Diplomat is large & impressive, but for the price you pay, not worth it. Having the ocean view we requested would have been so nice, but it "wasn't possible" anytime during our 5 night stay. (Really? Not one person is going to leave from an ocean view room during that time?) Due to an annoying metallic screeching noise heard on-and-off during our first night, we asked if we could please switch rooms. That was "not possible", either. Yet, when we went down to ask in person, all of a sudden, it was possible! It's as though the front desk staff decide what's available and what's not, depending on their mood. Security was questionable, as I was let into my room without having to show the security guard any ID. My key wasn't working, so he just let me in and left. I could have been anyone! On the positive side, location was good, not far from Gulfstream Race Track, which is really gorgeous, and the water taxi, which was fun. Next time we stop in Ft. Lauderdale, we'll try somewhere else, though. The Diplomat is definitely not worth the price, and front desk staff & security need to provide better customer service.

The Westin Diplomat is a convention style resort located in Hollywood Beach Florida. When arriving, be aware there are two entrances, the convention entrance and the main entrance. Be sure to arrive at the main entrance of the resort. The front drive is normally crowded so be patient. The check in process was a little slow. We requested two adjoining when the reservation was placed. We arrived at 11am and the rooms were not ready which was anticipated. We planned to spend the day by the pool. I returned at 3pm and the rooms were still not ready. Sensing there was difficulty accommodating adjoining rooms I told the agent it would be O.K. if they found two rooms on the same floor (we have 3 small children.) I returned around 4:30 pm and the rooms were ready. The only problem....one was on the 17th floor and the other on the 11th...in opposite towers. At this point we had no choice but to accept the rooms offered as the kids were tired. Beyond this challenge you will find the staff friendly and accommodating. The two (huge) pools and the beach are great. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The lobby area in this hotel is outstanding. And if you’re up for it, Hollywood Prime is a must!! There is a shuttle service that will take you to the Diplomat Country Club &Spa. We really enjoyed the stay until of course it's time to go and you have to deal with the mess on the front drive again (typical in South Florida). Beyond a few hiccups at check in this is a fantastic property with lots to offer.

This was our 4 trip to the Diplomat in the last 5 years. We always go for our Christmas vacation. The location is not spectacular as it is a drive to most everything, but the hotel is beautiful. The service and staff have always been great. We have always stayed in a corner room which are not huge, but very nice and contemporary. It has a big bathroom and huge patio. The rooms are very quiet and you don't hear your neighbors due to the Hurricane constructed high rise. Two big pools and you can walk right out to the beach. Very relaxing vacation as always. Looking forward to next year.
