“Hotel Pictures Fooled Us!”

Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa

Sep 30, 2007

Just came back from what was suppose to be a four night stay, to a one night stay. This place is like going to a one star hotel with a public pool. People, the pool area is a zoo!

I was very dissapointed because the pictures on the hotel site makes this look like a 5 star resort. It was far from it, more like a 1 star hotel. The resort is not big enough to host the number of guest that's booked.

We changed rooms three times. We found a number of things wrong with all the rooms. From red spots on the comforter in two different rooms, to an old smelly mildew room with a chair that had a big grease stain by the head part; this was the final straw for my family. Not to mention, like a previous review read about this hotel, the room attendant had no regard for the privacy sign on the door. She hounded in the hall twice that morning about coming to clean the room. I came back upstairs to find her in the room, and that's with being told to wait a few minutes and with a privacy sign placed on door.

I called the hotel manager to complain about that and other issues, which he agreed that it was very rude for the attendant to enter the room. The manager offered to move us to their upscale luxury collection at the golf course but I could not take anymore.

Travelers thinking about vacationing to this hotel, beware! Trust me you will be very disappointed. The pictures are very nice on the hotel website, but this hotel looks much older when you arrive. Not to mention the guest rooms! Again they moved us to three different rooms and they all were horrible! Again trust me on this one, you will be wasting your money if you do not take this advice!

The room did not have a heavenly bed- as was prominently displayed in the booking information. I complained and was offered a credit of $50 at the hotel. The view and bathroom was spectacular. The coach had a hole in it and looked like dorm furniture. The AC system was a bit loud, but worked very well. The hotel could use some upkeep. The pool service is not existent. It was still a great pool and beach and I had a good time. The property is just underperforming for the 4.5 star hotel it represents itself to be. I used a 50% off SPG voucher and got a deluxe room on the 24th floor for $200- probably overpaid seeing the hotwire rates that are out there. Oh by the way, since it was hurricane season the properly was totally empty.

“Amazing Place Must See”

I recently stayed here with my boyfriend for a conference we attended. Our initial reaction to the staff was not warm, we called a few days prior to try and setup a massage or at least get some information. We were constantly transferred to the General Reservation line eventhough I specifically mentioned I wanted to book a massage. The general reservation line had no idea why we were transferred to them, they were not able to help us out. We were not impressed with the customer service of the Westin and were not looking forward to our trip, but when we got their our opinion completely changed. The staff was very nice and helpful, we ate at Aizia located in the hotel. The staff there was amazing and the food was pretty good as well. The view from our room overlooked the ocean, we had a balcony and the room size was pretty decent. We were very impressed with the hotel's locations, beauty, friendliness once we arrived at the hotel.

My boyfriend was there for a business conference and i tagged along to get some R&R. Upon arrival the hotel lobby smelled really nice and we were quickly greeted at the front desk. We didnt have an ocean view so we asked for an upgrade and they gladly gave us one for free.
ROOM: The room was spacious and very neat. The bathroom was nice. It had a tub with sliding doors so you could look outside of the room. The shower was small and it leaked water on the floor every time we'd take a shower. The bed, pillows and down comforter was awesome! They serve Star Bucks coffee and real creamer-- which i loved! The sunset/moonlight was absolutly beautiful from the balcony. They have a huge list of ammenities that you can order but you better ask quick. We asked for a mini-fridge and a fan and both were unavailable.
POOL: My first day to go was on a Friday and i had my pick of any chair i wanted. There were plenty of beach towels provided by the hotel. I discovered that the hotel blocks the sun around 3pm so i had to chase the sun down. I didnt want to spend $6.00 for a water so i asked the server for a cup of ice. I saw some people carry in little ice chest with their own drinks-- what a great idea! Oh and the pool side service isnt that great so dont expect anything in a hurry. Now, Saturday was a totally different enviroment. Couldnt find an empty chair anywhere and kids took over the place! There is a part of the pool to where you can see the bottom of the pool above so we went there to check it out and kids were pullng down their pants showing their bottoms and private parts and flipping people off. I was amazed to see these kids act this way.
BEACH: You'll have to pay to lay in a chair or cabana. And they watch these like a hawk! So we went down past the chairs and laid out on the sand...which is very hot with the sun beaming down. Ocean was nice and clean. There are some wave-runners that you can rent for $80.00 for 30 minutes.
FOOD and DRINKS: We ate the resturant (Splash) at the pool. A cheeseburger is 12.95. You get a burger and a slice of watermelon. If you want fries, it's about 5.00 more. To be honest, the burger filled me up though. They were really good in my opinion. I ordered a Daiquiri and it was $13.00 but with tax it totalled $15.00. It was tasty but not worth $15.00! They do have the service to where you can bill to your room so be careful and keep tabs to what you get because some people told me about items on the tab that they didnt order. About 4 blocks down from the hotel, theres a 7-11 store so i walked down there to get some snacks and drinks. There are a few places to eat across from the hotel but we didnt eat there. We did go there for some live entertainment, which was nice. We ate at a little pizza place about 3 blocks down and it was really good. Each night we attended a company dinner which the hotel catered. They served great food and provided excellent service.
So overall, the stay was nice but its way over priced. I sure didnt think it was worth $250.00 a night. We asked for a late check out, which is 1:00 but they informed us that if we're not there by 12:50 then they charge us for another full night. SO be careful of that.

“Great Vacation at the Westin!!”

My sister and I stayed at the Westin from Aug 21-25 for a girls getaway vacation. Thanks to another trip advisor member's tip I got this hotel on hotwire for $125 a night!! It was worth every penny.

Upon checking in I thought I'd press my luck and see if she would upgrade us to an ocean view room. She said for $60 more a night we could have a deluxe ocean view and for $30 more a night we could have a partial ocean view. I decided to see the intercoastal view first and if we didn't like it she said we could switch rooms. To our surprise we walked into our room on the 15th floor and it had a full ocean view! Not sure if she made a mistake but needless to say we kept the room and did not need to upgrade!

The room itself was nice (typical Westin room) but the beds are little harder than most Westin heavenly beds. Still comfortable though... The a/c was quiet and we never once our neighbors through the walls.

The pools and beach were wonderful! The ocean is clear blue and the pools were very clean and only half crowded. We ordered lunch two days at the pool and it was decent, but as other reviewers said very expensive.

We rented a car which came in very handy and helped us to save a ton of money on food. There is a Pannera, Wynn Dixie, Boston Market, Coldstone Creamery about a mile and a half away in a nice shopping center. We ate dinner a couple of nights at Aventura mall (Cheesecake Factory and Grand Lux) which was about 5 miles from the hotel. I highly recommend renting a car!!!!

We decided to Valet park (22 per day) as it was only 4 dollars more per day than self parking. We waited about 10 minutes each time. The valet was kind of slow but all the guys working out there were really friendly.

Overall it was a great stay and for the price we paid you can't beat it! I will definitely be back!
