“Hotel Sheldon Fun!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2012

We had a great time at the Sheldon, The staff was great and the location cannot be better. We plan on coming back next year and would like to bring the kids. It was a very clean hotel considering the renovation. Your staff did a great job.
Oh and one other thing for your guests if they ask. We did a lot of traveling and eating pretty much at all the locations around the Hotel and these were the best deals!

The Florida Limo was 13.00 bucks per/person from the airport to the hotel, but the cab ride was 15.00 for as many as you can get in the cab. Cab was cheaper and make sure the driver takes the A1A to Michigan Street.

The best Oysters and Crab legs as well as all around food was at Capone Flickr’s. The Staff was very friendly and the prices were very reasonable. Ask for Jimmy the bartender! And its within staggering distance from the hotel! Ha!!

The best Lobster was at Nick’s the rest of the food was ok.

Take the Trolley to downtown Hollywood, it’s only a $1.00 and the bus is 1.75 and makes to many stops. The Trolley is great.

Another good mode of transportation is the Water Taxi to fort Lauderdale. 20.00 for all day from 10.00 am to 10.00 pm, and you can stop at the bars along the canal. That was great and cheap.

The best souvenirs shop is Wings by far. We went to other places and the same product was sometimes double the price!

Oh and make sure you tell everyone that you have free beach chairs, Towers and umbrella’s as well as the parking! That was great.

Thank you again!

This hotel is right on the beach! so great location and walking distance to everything you need! Our room seemed pretty clean, but outside the room was a different story. The bad..... Its under construction. Not just a little construction, but MAJOR construction!!! Walls down, no lobby, no sitting area, no vending, no ice, very creepy walking around a hotel that looks like something from a horror movie..~loud hammering and drilling early in the morning. Very few ammenities, no pool, no hot tub, no hairdryers, would not give us extra towels, we were told only one towel permitted per guest...seriously! We only stayed 2 nights, so I guess it was fine. Any longer than that and I probrobly would have went to a different hotel.
You get what you pay for......

We stayed at the Hotel Sheldon 1/27/12 and 1/28/12. This hotel is all about location. We have 3 and 4 year old boys, so this is not the place for us. The rooms are very small and there is a very small TV. I believe it's an old school 19 inch. It's very easy for children to get bored in such a small room. On top of that, the windows are large and open, and have no screens. The first thing my kids wanted to do was hang out the window, which we ended up tying closed with a plastic bag. The furnishings are shabby, our shower wouldn't turn off, and the whole hotel exudes a kind of neglected vibe. I asked for a balcony, but was told there was only 1 room with a balcony and it was booked 6 months out.
Now onto the positive. The location is amazing. The view out of our window of death is amazing. You can sit in your room and watch the people on the boardwalk or stare at the Gulf of Mexico. The boardwalk is the only thing between you and the beach. There are restaurants and bars within walking distance, so you could park your car in the inconvenient parking and walk everywhere. The names of the rooms don't really seem to mean anything, we stayed in the Jane Russell room, and it looked like all the others. The room was shabby, but smelled clean and fresh. The sheets were clean, the beds comfortable. The staff were'nt overly friendly, or unfriendly. They seemed pretty much indifferent. Like us being there really didn't have much to do with them. But we hung the do not disturb sign on our door and the maid dropped clean towels, coffee, etc outside our door anyway. Very considerate, I thought. The WiFi is easy to access, the TV has quite a few channels.
Overall, I would stay there again with my husband or a friend, but never with children again.

Room Tip: Ask for a beach facing room.

I read several reviews about this hotel and was a little concerned about what I would find when I arrived there. But the hotel is right on the beach with some great views! Its amenities and furnishings are a little (OK, a lot) spartan but it is clean and the staff was very friendly. The location can't be beat and for the money, this was a great deal! True, it is under construction and expect a few hanging wires and unfinished areas, but for the location that was not a problem for me. Still no phones in the rooms but who does not have a cell phone these days? The free parking was a big benefit as well. My friends paid $20 a day to park at their hotel, which was not even on the water. I will stay here again.

The Hotel Sheldon is under renovation. Its location more than makes up for any slight inconveniences. The rooms are spare, but clean. The staff is very nice. Parking is free which is a real plus. The hotel fronts on the beach and broadwalk. There is an endless parade of walkers, joggers, bikers, trikers, and people watchers. We were there during a modeling/commercial shoot, which only added to the atmosphere.

There are plenty of restaurants. We particularly liked Giorgios, 2 blocks away on A1A for a very nice breakfast. They also serve lunch and dinner, and function as a wine bar.

The Sheldon names their rooms for film stars. It was a privilege to stay in the "Ronald Reagan", all politics aside. I would go back anytime.

Spent 5 days over the christmas holiday. The location is perfect!
The hotel is under construction and torn up in common areas but once in the room you dont even know it. The room was very clean. I will definitely stay there again just to see the progress.

Room Tip: Stayed in a two double bed oceanview. View was awesome you feel like your sitting on the beach right...

3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2011

Hotel Sheldon on Hollywood Beach, Fl has been under renovation for quite some time. Knowing that, we booked 2 days before our cruise as well as 2 days after the cruise. In terms of cleanliness, this hotel could do better with the common areas, but for the age of the Hotel, the rooms were just fine. Our first night was spent in an Ocean front room, a little small for us 4 girls, but it was comfortable. However, after checking at the Front desk to see if we could arrange a bigger room for our last 2 nights, we found that a partial ocean front room could be used for the 2nd of the 4 nights. We moved and it provided us with more room, but a renovated bathroom, which was just fine. It was clean and the staff was very accommodating. This grand old building will take a lot to make it modern. If you need to 'just stay' over and not worry about any amenities, you will do just fine. The crowning glory is the wonderful area of Hollywood Beach, where, within minutes or less, you have shopping, food, and just the plain beauty of the Atlantic Ocean to savor. I would not hesitate staying at The Hotel Sheldon again. This is an old fashioned approach to the modern day service of a hotel, but in and of itself, if you were content with doing things yourself, it is just fine. I suspect, though, that in the near future, when all things are completed, you will have a more friendly serviced Hotel to enjoy. For now, the price is fairly decent, linens extremely clean, and the atmosphere just fine.....Oh, just one minor complaint....the air conditioning system, although very good and cool, is quite noisy.....

Room Tip: Don't expect a lot from this Hotel. If you are critical in any capacity, go somewhere else. If...
