“Much Like Could be Expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2011

Hotel Sheldon on Hollywood Beach, Fl has been under renovation for quite some time. Knowing that, we booked 2 days before our cruise as well as 2 days after the cruise. In terms of cleanliness, this hotel could do better with the common areas, but for the age of the Hotel, the rooms were just fine. Our first night was spent in an Ocean front room, a little small for us 4 girls, but it was comfortable. However, after checking at the Front desk to see if we could arrange a bigger room for our last 2 nights, we found that a partial ocean front room could be used for the 2nd of the 4 nights. We moved and it provided us with more room, but a renovated bathroom, which was just fine. It was clean and the staff was very accommodating. This grand old building will take a lot to make it modern. If you need to 'just stay' over and not worry about any amenities, you will do just fine. The crowning glory is the wonderful area of Hollywood Beach, where, within minutes or less, you have shopping, food, and just the plain beauty of the Atlantic Ocean to savor. I would not hesitate staying at The Hotel Sheldon again. This is an old fashioned approach to the modern day service of a hotel, but in and of itself, if you were content with doing things yourself, it is just fine. I suspect, though, that in the near future, when all things are completed, you will have a more friendly serviced Hotel to enjoy. For now, the price is fairly decent, linens extremely clean, and the atmosphere just fine.....Oh, just one minor complaint....the air conditioning system, although very good and cool, is quite noisy.....

Room Tip: Don't expect a lot from this Hotel. If you are critical in any capacity, go somewhere else. If...

I accompanied my fiance on a business trip. We stayed at the Sheldon because it's right at the beach. Our room was on the second floor all the way to the right. It was late when we arrived. We had been told most of the rooms had been renovated, yet the beds, the furniture and the TV was pretty old. Upon taking our shoes off we noticed the floor being all dirty. My fiance took one of the towels, placed it on the floor and dragged it from the bedroom to the bathroom. It was extremely dirty when he picked it up. We showed it to the staff in the morning. A lady, the only housekeeper, mopped the floor later on. The rooms are not very attractive. The first thing I noticed was the ceiling. It looked like an egg carton to me. They seemed to have pained it recently but missed a few spots. The next thing I wasn't to happy about were the doors. The front door as well as the closet door looked very similar to doors used in electrical closets (green and fireproof). I then decided to use the internet which everyone was suppose to be able to get in their room. Well that didn't work. As soon as I closed the electrical closet door the internet quit working. I had to sit in a small area (a tiny table and two chairs) in order to receive internet. Dust and dirt was everywhere due to construction going on at the time of our stay. Since I spent a good amount of time sitting in the corner in order to be on the internet, I was able to watch the housekeeper do her job. If anyone could have worked any slower, it would have been a snail. She also didn't bother to change the mop water. She filled up the bucket once and kept pushing it from room to room. The staff was young and nice although not very intelligent. Once I asked for shampoo and the girl at the desk offered me a previously used big bottle of suave. We stayed one week and probably will not stay there again.

The hotel was under construction when we were there, but it didn't bother us at all. They only worked during regular business hours and we were out on the beach usually at that time.

The hotel was clean.

The view in the Elvis Presley room was AWESOME.

Waking up to that sunrise over the ocean was indescribable.

The staff was great. Very helpful and nice people.

The only down side was we couldn't get wireless internet in our room so I had to go to the lobby. But that wasn't a big deal. They are working on fixing that during the remodeling.

Our vacation was fantastic and big part of that was Hotel Sheldon. It's a great place I highly recomend it. We will be back there next year.

Stayed here for a couple of days at the end of our trip and when I say stayed, it was literally a crash pad. The room was very uninspiring visually and had this weird ceiling that made you feel like you were sleeping in a polystrene box, but that aside were clean and functional. Bed was comfy, shower hot and a coffee machine in the room. Was about all we needed, there was free parking . Never saw/heard this construction noise others have mentioned. Its only steps to the beach but it lacks that seaside relaxed quality, so I wouldn't pick it as a holiday base.

We thought we were going to have peace and quiet during our trip.... Think again! The hotel is under construction and we got woke up numerous times during the early morning. This was our vacation we at least wanted to sleep in till 8 or 9... Boy were we wrong.. The construction began early and woke us up... The room was ok for the price expect it was old looking and the paint was coming off the walls. The bed also had an annoying mattress plastic cover on it which was aggravating whenever we moved on the bed. The hotel staff was ok but when we checked in the front desk girl named Nicole couldn't find our reservation. She was very young and seemed very inexperienced. Took us forever to get checked in, and parking was a joke as was the wifi, since it didn't work. When we contacted the front desk, she didn't know how to fix it.
Never again, next time we'll stay somewhere else... Also the pics on hotel.com does not look like the hotel sheldon we stayed at.. Don't be fooled.

We got there early Sunday (9am or so). They gave us our free parking pass even before we checked in, which was great since check in isn't until 3. The desk staff was very friendly.

We had a beach view room that was huge and clean. The bed was pretty hard, and had some weird plastic cover on the mattress (under the sheets of course) that was kinda annoying. But luckily I like my mattress a little firmer, didn't really bother me.. If you require a soft bed, you'll probably be disappointed.

The place is certainly under construction, and on the weekend it doesn't cause a problem, unless you're the kind of person that complains about the outside of a hotel looking like it's under construction.

On Monday morning we were woke up by construction noise at like 7:30, which was annoying after being up until 1am. Tuesday the construction didn't start until about 9:30am, which was fine for us since we generally get up at 9 or earlier.

The elevator is down right now, but seriously the hotel is 3 stories. TV was small..

Okay, here's the other great parts. It's a very reasonably priced hotel, literally on the beach. From your room, it takes two minutes to have your feet in the water. There are plenty of restaurants and bars both ways you walk, and a small convenience store a 1/2 block away. We had alot of fun. (Hint; Capones on N. Ocean, right behind the hotel, was amazing at 2am!)

If you're look for 5 star, this is not it. That's the hilton down the road and is gonna cost you $200-$400 per night. But if you're looking for an affordable hotel on the beach, that's clean, this is your place.

But if you're staying on the week nights, call and check on the construction, and bring your ear plugs.

Room Tip: Partial oceanview, king was great.
