“Good Affordable Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

The Crowne Plaza is a 10-story building, several decades old, located on Hollywood's inland waterway, between Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach. Rooms are good size, hotel is clean, staff is friendly and accomodating. We asked for a roll-away bed for our room and it arrived within 15 minutes- extra $25 per night. We received a good basic rate, just over $100, for our room which is very reasonable for what I would call a three and a half star hotel. Beds were very comfortable, the hotel was quiet, and there is a very nice, large pool, overlooking the waterway. If you want to be within walking distance of all the action, this is not for you, but if you don't mind taking the water taxi to explore the Fort Lauderdale area , the one dollar trolly to go to Hollywood Beach Boardwalk, or driving 30 minutes to South Beach, this is a fine family choice. The ocean itself is a mere block away and there is a superb Cuban restaurant a 10 or 15 minute walk away.

We arrived later than expected due to a horrible experience with U S Airways ( never again ). Allen at the front desk was very professional and made everything all better with a great room with a view of the beach and intracoastal water way and drawbridge. The hotel is one row back from beach, you just have to cross Ocean Drive and take the beach access next to the Hallendale Fire Department. There is a shower to rinse off at the beach and a public bathroom, which we didn't see until later, in the back of the fire department. The hotel pool is beautiful and we always were able to find a beach chair. The food and drinks at the Tiki bar by the pool are good, service there was friendly. Maid service was confusing, sometimes they came early in the morning, other times they came in the afternoon. So, we would put the do not disturb tag on the door, but they still knocked which was annoying. They had a early bird special in the hotel restaurant that was a good deal, and the food was pretty good. But with so many restaurants in the area we only ate there the first night. The great thing about this location was the public transportation, they have the water taxi that pics up by the pool in the back $10 per ride or $20 for the day. There is a trolley that picks up in front of the hotel which cost $1 one way. (Only runs Wed - Sun) The bus lines are great too, I think we paid $1.50 pp one ride, but there is also an all day pass. The hotel offered Zumba classes and had live entertainment by the pool one evening. The concierge had some good trip offers to the everglades and key west, or he had deals on rental cars which would be cheaper than the prices for the trips if you don't mind driving yourself. The room was huge, there was a mini kitchen with a sink cabinets, microwave, and mini fridge. There is a walmart across the drawbridge, less than a half mile away. We went there and stocked up on breakfast and lunch items to fill the fridge and ate dinners out. The computers in the business center were not working when we went to leave but the front desk staff was kind enough to help me print my boarding passes for my flight home. I have to say that every staff member we encountered on our trip was very professional and super friendly and I felt they went out of their way to make you feel special. I would definitely recommend staying here for a convenient location between busy Fort Lauderdale and Miami. This area was closer to Hallendale Beach, it was a little more relaxed and laid back, which was very nice. The Hollywood "broadwalk" was about a mile and a half north from the hotel. You can walk or take the trolley.

Room Tip: get a room face south, you can see the ocean and intracoastal water way and drawbridge. There is a...

The hotel is located in Hollywood just where the Hallandale Beach begins. The Crowne Plaza is 15 miles north of South Beach Miami and 11-12 miles south of Fort Lauderdale. The location is not the best if you want walking distance to restaurants and bars. It is about 2 miles (3 kilometers) to the restaurants at Hollywood Beach Broadwalk. Walmart is at the other side of the bridge. Next to the hotel it is a 7-eleven with gas.

The room has a small kitchen area with microwave and refrigerator. Our room had two queen beds, comfortable for 2 adults and 2 children. The washbasin was not in the bathroom, placed just outside instead next to the beds. The room missing the possibility for 2 adults and 2 children to have a breakfast or lunch when there was no table inside and at the balcony there only was a small table and two chairs. The room should have two more chairs. There is a safety box in the room. TV.

That was sensitively between the rooms but even more towards the corridor. I have never experienced that much sensitively towards a corridor before in any hotel. I think it is some errors in the design of the doors when there was a big gap. But it was pretty quiet in the evenings and nights so it did not bother so much.

The public beach is just across the street, if you need sun chairs and umbrella the cost is 30-40 USD per day for the guest of the hotels.

The pool area is excellent. A large pool that fits all ages and gets never crowded, not even on the July 4 weekend when the hotel was full booked. There is a large Jacuzzi. Free sun chairs and pool towels. No resort fee charged. Nice location next to the channel.

The hotel has complimentary Wi-Fi but it is very slow.

Breakfast is served at the restaurant, continental costs 14 USD plus taxes and tip and full American breakfast 17.95 USD plus taxes and tip.

Self-parking at 17 USD plus taxes per night, both a parking lot and a garage. The garage was very affordable at heat days. Valet parking at 19 USD plus taxes and tip.

The hotel has a fitness center with all the equipment you need.

We stayed 14 nights and after 8 nights we discovered what we first believed was mosquito bites. But when we had counted 27 mosquito bites at my wife’s body we understood it was something else. I searched for bed bugs under the beds and found some. I contacted the front desk immediately and we were evacuated to another room after an inspection. The manager in charge called us and gave us an excuse immediately and we also got a really good compensation. There was no problem with bed bugs in the new room. We had some friends stayed at the hotel at the same time, they had no bed bugs in the two rooms they used.

I can recommend the hotel if you want affordable hotel in the Miami area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with pool view near the pool at floor 6 or higher. The room with ocean view is not to...

I stayed in this hotel with my colleagues during our business trip. The hotel is very clean, the room was perfect. Has a small kitchen. I liked how they separated the bed and the sink.
The food in the hotel is fine, not the best, but we were satisfied. The location is very convenient and right next to the canal with the pier right. So at the pool you can buy a ticket just for 25$ and travel on the sea-taxi towards Miami and back, what is cool to my mind. The sea-taxi stops right at the pier of the hotel. The pool is really nice too. It's big enough and built on such level, so when you are in the pool, it feels like the pool has no border, if you look to another side of the canal. I have not had bad experience with the staff in that Hotel. Definitely can recommend it.

The Crowne delivered what i was expecting! We (family of 4) relaxed at the pool overlooking the intercoastal. The service at pool side was ample and quick. The rooms were clean and up to date. When i wanted extra towels I got them. Jorge at Valet parking took care of us! Front desk was polite and professional. The beach was across the street, no problem.
Wish List: A toaster or toaster oven in the room to compliment the mini fridge and microwave.
If you had to work on something: Breakfast was too $$$. And the coffee in the room please speak to you supplier...yucky!
We have decided to comeback again soon. Good luck on your pool renovations!

I attended a meeting at the Westin Diplomat earlier this year, and was unable to get a room at the host hotel. This property was close (a short, two-block walk) and provided a nice, quiet room at a favorable rate.

The hotel restaurant serves good food and the service is prompt. Front desk, bell and valet staff are friendly and responsive.

I was disappointed in the overall value of this hotel stay, considering it was listed as a 4 star hotel. It cost $17 for me to self park for one night, there were only 2 bath towels & one coffee pack in the room, & the lobby & halls were hot compared to the other hotels I've stayed in during July in this area. My room entry card didn't work & even after I got a 2nd card, it took about 10 tries to unlock my room.
