“Sketchy-looking area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2010

Location is great if you're staying for a few days and want to be close to the beach... location is a pain if you're using it as a stopover before a cruise or flight. The hostel is kind of tricky to find and is far enough from the airport and port (about a 20-25min drive).

The area seems kind of sketch at night... run-down and some questionable-looking characters on the streets just before the hostel. My taxi driver actually followed me into the main house to make sure everything was ok when we got there...

The buildings themselves look run-down as well, but I was pleasantly surprised by the room. It was clean and comfy. My room was near the courtyard though... so it was quite loud through the night.

Staff were wonderful though, very friendly and helpful.

In short, it's a decent place to stay, but be prepared for the area and the noise.

Dear guest,

We are glad you enjoyed your stay and our cozy rooms!
Regarding the surrounding area you don't have to worry about it since we are located in a semi-residential area far enough from the noisy Johnson St and close enough from the beach and restaurant area.
We also have security cameras all over our place and we never heard from any bad incident.
Our location is right on the corner of two main streets just one block north from Hollywood Blvd and the A1A, 15 minutes driving to the FLL airport and 20 min to the Port Everglades, some taxi drivers take advantage and take long ways in order to charge more money, we highly recommend to give us call or check our website for transportation info.
The city of Hollywood just released the Trolley transportation service for $1.00 you can ride all over the beach, downtown area and even Hallandale beach, there is a convinient stop just across the street from our place.
We hope you can come back soon and take advantage of the new updates and amenities, please let us know your next visit and became a fan at our Facebook page for news and specials.
Best Regards,
Pamela Garcia.

I stayed at this Hotel for Memorial Day Weekend 2010. We rented a Sweet Suite. I had looked at the pictures but was not expecting much. When we got there I have to say i did not expect much but it was amazing. Very clean and comfortable. Location was the best part. Less than a 1 minute walk to the beach.
They give you chairs and umbrellas for free as part of the rental.

The only thing that is lacking is that the sheets are a bit rough and the covers are not that heavy, specially since the air works amazing so it gets cold in the room. But it's an easy fix with turning the temp up a bit.

I am planning on going back for a week in the summer and relaxing there. I did not like the restaurants in the board walk...I come from South Beach where the restaurants are great and varied so I guess I'm spoiled on that. However the kitchenette in the rooms are perfect and what I do recommend is that you take food to prep, they have a very nice and clean kitchen in the main lobby where you can cook, plus BBQ that they lend you.

Over all it is a very inexpensive way to spend an amazing week in a beautiful beach.

if the staff learned to stop shouting to one another all hours of the day it would have been a great stay. also walls are paper thin and you can hear other guest every move and showers were small and dirty

I decided to book and stay at the hotel portion of this establishment due to it being close to the beach. It was close to the beach, and they also rent you bikes for free.

On the site I booked the hotel, it stated that free wifi in rooms. I get to my room, and the signal is poor to non/existant. In addtion, on the back of their business card, they advertise "FREE WIFI IN ROOMS".. I went to the front desk to complain, and they said the signal is not strong enough to get to the "hotel" portion and would only work in the patio and/or lobby area. They did not offer any solutions, or offer any compensation for this inconvience. This did not help my situation. In addition, there are no telephones in the room. The tv was a flat screen TV with DirecTV, which I was looking foward to. When I got in the room to find, it is DirectTV, BUT you get about 12 channels, most of which play infomercials... so dont expect to kick back and watch TV at this place.

If your from Europe, you will enjoy the styling of this hotel - nice and simple. IKEA style furiture. The shower is a stand-up stall only (smallish), with slippery tiles, which could be an accident waiting to happen..

The Good:
Recently remodeled, and painted.
Location on the beach
free use of surf board, bike, and lounge chairs.
wasnt charged the "$15 mandatory safe charge" as advertised on the booking site.
Fridge and Microwave in room
Computers and Printers for use in "lobby".

the bad:
no inroom wifi - as advertised
the bed had no comforter, just a single sheet and a single blanket that is normally under the comforter.
water stains/damage (future mold growth) in closet and underneath air conditioner.
Limited TV channels
shower small and tiles on ground slippery.

We have stayed at the Hollywood Beach Hotel twice within a month. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Each room comes with a microwave, fridge, free wifi, free parking and free use of bicycles. They have wonderful flat screened tvs. The bathrooms are very small with showers only. The towels, sheets, and comforter are somewhat disappointing (the blanket/comforter needs to be wider and the towels are new but thin). The staff are very helpful and very friendly. You can't beat the price or location only steps from the boardwalk and beach. They accept small pets too.
