“Don't bother - It's dead”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

We have coming to this hotel annually for the past 7 years. Each year our experience has declined. The ONLY reason we continued to book this hotel was because O'Malleys Ocean Pub was right outside on the Broadwalk and the beach was right there- no car required. Well, they ran off OMalleys. We were there the week of Feb 3rd. No beach bar. The place was boarded up. OMalleys was truly the only reason we booked this hotel. It has been moved upstairs but has none of the great drinks it used to have and no menu.No people there either. It's dead. They will serve food from the hotel's new restraunt but the food is awful. The free breakfast used to be great- cut up fresh fruit salad, coffee cake, bagels, pastries. No more coffee cake or fruit. The hotel is now managed by two separate entities who are at war with each other. Customer Service at the SG check in desk was seriously lacking. Not one person behind the desk was pleasant or personable. Our room was OK-typical of what we find every year. Rather over priced, fairly clean, comfortable enough. We only shower and sleep in it. Some rooms have been updated; others not. One window was partially open and would not close. The hotel is attached to an empty mall. The Condo owners units are interspersed with the hotel rooms. Security guards were added at the elevator entrance a few years ago. They aren't much help and can't answer any questions. I imagine the Condo owners foot this bill so they feel safer from the riff raff.
BEWARE- they add a 10.00 per day charge to the already overpriced room. (A Resort fee??!!??) for the honor of a towel at the pool (which we did not use.) the "Gym" has some equipment but the locker room is in extremely poor shape and has been for 2 years. They did paint the exterior and updated the halls and doors, but service and attitude are worse than ever. You can stay elsewhere for less money. I suggest anyplace North on the Broadwalk where the action is... tourist shops, many restraunts, cabanas on the beach to rent. Nothing happening here.

Room Tip: Rooms on the east side overlook the ocean and will cost more. On the west side they overlook roofs a...

“Nice pool, hotel outdated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

Our family of 8 was put up here after a cancelled flight. The rooms and beds are very dated and need a serious face lift. The pool and location are very nice, also the restaurant next to the pool was very accommodating with our vouchers. Our flight didn't leave until 9:00the next night so the staff let us have a room to use for the day before our flight.

“Horrible Experience - This Resort Just Didn't Care!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Hi there, Just wanted to post our experience with this resort.

Checking into the Resort is a bit confusing. The Resort is managed by two companies. One for the seasonal owners (Condo) and the other for the rentals. We approached the front doors of the hotel and asked the Valet Rep is there a drop off spot? He directed us towards the pull off area for stopping. We gathered all out belonging and went to the check in at the front. We were told "are you two residents?" We told the woman we booked a hotel room for the week so she said to us oh well you will need to go to the other side this is for our elite owners. We lugged our baggage over to the other side where we were met by 3 assistants behind the desk. We noticed right away the Customer Service was lacking. There were 2 assistants and one in training. We quicky realised she was in training when she didn't say a word to us. Just stared at us like we were a couple of poverty stucken criminals that just rolled up with everything we owned. We did get there early and were told our room was not ready and the offered to take our cell phone number to place a call when it was ready. We then lugged our baggage back to the car where we reloaded it all in. We decided to use the parking garage to park for the week. (18 for valet 15 for garage) We drove over to the garage and were forced to park on the 2nd floor as the 1st floor is only reserved for Beach Cars. We parked lugged our paggage down and paid for the week. Our room was finaly ready we went back to the front desk ( The proper one) and were given our keys. We thought Finally !!!! After a 6 hr ordeal we were beat!!! We started rolling all our luggage back to the main enterence. We were stopped by a assistance who said "Oh I think I gave you security badges and keys that arent activated take these" We took them and looked for the enternce. We found a glass door with a security swipe. We tried to use the first card it did not work. We started getting looks from the security guard who was sitting there fully dressed and quite intimidating. We tried the other one and access!!!!!. The room was ok. You could tell it was a building built in 1929 and the smell of musk was evident. Never the less we were there!! View wasnt that great. You looked out the window and could see men working on the roof fixing the tar. Our toliet broke the second night and it took us 2 calls and hours of waiting for it to be fixed. We didnt want to risk leaving as my husband has ibs. We were given no apology for anything. We lost our cable every night at 230 am called the front desk and all they had to say was "our maintenance has gone home. No apology or nothing we paid for that room.Just wanted to mention the mall they advertise here let me quote it (The dynamic Ocean walk Mall occupies the first and second floor of the Hollywood Beach Resort Cruise Port Hotel) is closed down!!! There are 3 stores in the mall and the rest is closed. Anawyas to make it short we did not enjoy our experience at all at the end we were stuck with a 700 dollar bill. We paid it and left when we got home relaxed and really thought about it it's quite sad the way we were treated and the money we wasted. A broken toilet, no cable, dirty room, horrible check in and the comments made because we were not elite owners was unreal.

Room Tip: All Rooms have a View of the Roof !!! you are overlooking the roof to look at the ocean and during t...

“Decent hotel. Historic means older...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Booked via Hotwire, We just need a hotel near the Ft Lauderdale Airport, So we didn't know where would be staying. Not bad. Definitely older, but the location is great! I can see why beach goers would love this spot. Right on beach, lots of activity on the boardwalk that goes forever. Room had full size fridge and microwave. A few real dishes in the cupboard, including glass wine glasses. Very small room. Clean, but you can't clean away years of wear and tear....

“Another classic week at HBR”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013 via mobile

Jan 10 was the arrival of another classic visit to HBR! I drove to the front entrance to drop off our bags, and once again drove past about 50 empty parking spaces! It is beyond me why these spots sit empty day in and day out. You are forced into using the arrogant valet attendants or going to the parking garage, both big time rip-offs! There are now two check ins, the original one at the front desk and one off to the side in the old car rental office. Leaving the latter is a great first impression of the hotel, a courtyard full of food wrappers and other kinds of garbage and entrance doors so dirty you see inside! Upon entering my real sadness kicked in......the pizza place that used to be open at random times during the week is no longer. The 1st class Chinese restaurant is closed as well as the gyro man in the corner! That leaves the entire 10000 square foot food court completely empty. I felt a little better when I saw the Russians food cart was still in business along with the other food cart 2 feet away. Now the real surprise OMalleys is closed!!!!! Seems they moved upstairs and a new owner is remodeling the old place to re open under a different name. That owner is off to a good start, the mold is cleaned off the ceiling and the underground kitchen is boarded up! The new place upstairs is pretty dubious, you can enter from the stairs by the old location outside because they are crumbling and roped off. Tried to use the elevator, but that was out of order! A bit confused I started yelling to the second floor " how do I get to OMs"? That's when two security guys came over and told me in broken Nigerian/Jamaican/English about a hidden staircase by the front lobby. Upon entering the bar I realized I was the only one there, and what would have been a great view, was ironically blocked by the old OMs! I had one beer and decided to leave. That's when I discovered a new restaurant in the hotel, Jimmie Maxxs Hideaway. This place is hidden behind the pool, a little past the first bike rental place, if you get to the second bike rental, you went too far! When we first found this place last year we instantly loved it, especially the slightly retarded girl that worked the bar. Seems Ms Gump doesn't work there anymore but she was replaced by a OMallys cast off, and he seems like a Gump as well! If you go there ask to meet Jimmy, he's one of the owners and you can't miss him he looks like Doc Robbins from CSI Vegas! Once again it was a great vacation with a lot of laughs!!!!! Room was great, plenty of tee shirts to buy, lottery still doesn't work and no sign of Rev Sticks with his bottle of gin! Thanks HBR......see u soon
