Recently watched a show on television regarding day trips around Florida and this particular show was on Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings State Park and a short ride to The Yearling Restaurant. Only living in Lady Lake we thought what a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon. We were not disappointed, at either.
The restaurant has a very old relaxed feel with plenty of books and other antiques to look at. Sorry to say we were excorted to the back room and we were not able to here the jazz musician. With some coaxing from another table he did come to the back room, he was terrific.
Our table ordered the sampler which contained, gator, frog legs, fried grren tomato's and fried portabelo mushrooms. Delicious
They ran out of the local chowder but did have New England clam chowder and being from New England ,we were well pleased.
Entre was fried catfish, baked sweet potatoe with brown sugar butter and a salad that was very good with a mango dressing, wonderful. Dessert was the famous sour orange pie, don't pass that up. The portions ample. Well worth the trip.
