At first glance, this beachfront bar and grill may appear as a bit of a dive. Don't be fooled. This place puts Gulfport on the map, or at least it should.
First off, while all of the hostesses are great, cross your fingers that you encounter Monica. For our first six months visiting, we thought she was the owner... She is incredibly sweet and welcomes each guest like an old friend. She's an absolute treasure!
Next off, let's talk about the manager, Jennifer. Her knack for names is akin to Rainman, minus any disability. She truly embodies the phrase, "come a stranger, leave a friend." When she asks for your name, it's not just for show; she remembers 99% of the people she interacts with. Her green eyes aren't fake, nor is her personality. She could easily be in a three Michelin starred restaurant; count your blessings that she's here.
Let's talk waitstaff. As you peruse the menu, you'll notice that many menu items have names associated with them. This is no fluke; their turnover is very low and you'll feel it. While each member of the waitstaff is excellent, the following staff members deserve an extra bit of praise: Jen, Tran, Gina, Michelle and Becky. The others are also amazing, but the aforementioned ladies are in an echelon of their own.
The food is also top-notch, and above what you'd expect from the environs. Chef Wade has an inventive streak, while producing solid food almost 100% of the time. (One note: Wade, what's up with the slashes on the menu? Just tell us what it is!) The only other complaint I'd have is that quality control has been lacking in the last couple of months, but that's probably noticeable by those of us who are there a bit too frequently.
On the whole, stop by and give it a visit; you won't be sorry you did. If you're lucky, owner Joe will stop by to greet you, but don't hold your breath... he only makes himself known to his loyal boozers.
