“A little haven for rescued wolves”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2012

My husband and I went to the Shy Wolf Sanctuary, not really knowing what to expect and found a gem of a sanctuary run by a very dedicated couple. The sanctuary is at their home, on 1 1/2 acres of property behind their house. It is entirely run by volunteers and accepts wolves, wolf dogs and other wild animals that people have purchased as pets and then decided that they didn't want. These animals would have been put down. The woman who gave our group its guided tour was entirely dedicated to these animals and their happiness. She knew each one's story (and some of the stories were pretty brutal) and obviously loved each animal in her care. We were taken in several of the enclosures with the wolves and allowed to pet them, if we (and they) wished. We gained a great deal of knowledge about the way animals communicate and unfortunately, how cruel humans can be to them. The mission of the Shy Wolf Sanctuary is to educate people about why wild animals deserve better than to be purchased as pets and then abandoned.
Anyone is welcome to come. Visits are at 9am only and last about 2+ hours. They are free, but obviously, donations to help in the care and feeding of these animals are welcome. (and you'd have a hard time not donating something after you have seen this place) You must call to book ahead.
