Basically, this is the case of people seeing trendy style and being affected by it enough to say the food is good. The non-traditional stuff and the deserts are pretty good, but any traditional kind of fare you can get like a sushi or sashimi platter is seriously lacking. It just lacks freshness. The cuts aren't great either. For 25 dollars I expect some more quality.
You are buying a "New York City atmosphere" I suppose, but it's at the cost of quality. I'm from San Francisco, so maybe that's why I find the trendy aspect to be such a pile of crap. Some of the best food in the world is sold out of the most beaten down shacks you can possibly imagine.
My advice, if you're looking for some actual real Japanese sushi (While the mango roll is good, it's not real Japanese sushi) go somewhere else. If you go to Dragonfly, stick with the fusion stuff and their desert menu.
