“Gainesville's Best Bed and Breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2011

We have stayed at the Laurel Oak Inn a few times now and it is a consistently excellent experience. Peggy and Monta Burt embrace their role as innkeepers with relish. Their breakfasts are gourmet and their practice of greeting you at the end of a long day with a nice glass of wine and some snacks is even better. We stayed in both the cottage and the Inn and loved both. They haven't overlooked a single detail to provide for their guests' comfort. Their tempurpedic beds and linens are amazing. It is one of the few places where I relax as soon as I set my luggage down.

What a beautiful and serene B&B. Beautiful on the outside and inside with greast hosts! The grounds were amazing and the rooms and common areas were beautifully appointed. The hosts went out of their way to accomodate us, giving us great tips on restaurants and things to do during our stay. The breakfasts were fabulous, you certainly do not leave hungry and are more than satisfied with the thought that went into the menu. Will certainly return and soak up the hospitality!

I booked a weekend for a surprise birthday getaway for my boyfriend and I. I'm a perfectionist, but even a quick chat over the phone with Monta was enough to calm my nerves. He and his wife, Peggy are so down to earth.
This may be wordy, but it's worth saying: There are only 4 B&B's in the city of Gainesville, and we had to drive past the other three to get to the Laurel Oak. All I remember thinking was "Oh my gosh, I hope ours doesn't look so 'run down'." We were greeted by a Victorian style home, straight out of Southern Living Magazine! Inside and out, the Laurel Oak Inn is so cozy.
We were immediately greeted with fresh baked, homemade double chocolate cookies, and given a tour of the entire house. Later that afternoon we enjoyed a delicious wine and cheese hour as we watched the Kentucky Derby and chatted with Monta and Peggy. They then asked about our evening plans and offered dining and entertainment suggestions, as well as detailed directions.

We stayed in the Lily, which has a king sized tempur-pedic bed and a huge jacuzzi tub. I was slightly worried about the girly color of the walls from the internet picture, but that was the last thing on my boyfriend's mind! He was so impressed with the details and decorations of the house, and couldn't keep his hands out of the cookie jar!!

I had asked Monta before we arrived if he could whip up some blueberry pancakes (my boyfriend's favorite) for the one morning we would be there. We woke up to hot tea and coffee delivered to our room, and fresh fruit, 100 different juices (exaggeration, well, kind of!), and homemade organic blueberry pancakes downstairs!
We finished our stay with a relaxing nap in a cotton rope hammock on their perfectly manicured lawn, and the owners didn't even talk about payment until I showed my wallet to notion our final goodbye for the weekend.
We will definitely be back, and even joked about buying the place if Monta and Peggy ever decide to retire and downsize!
Also, the owners were eager to make us as comfortable as possible in every way. Call ahead and they will go above and beyond to make sure they have just about anything you request. WIFI AVAILABLE!

Just a great stay! The Inn is spotless and company too much fun. You can't find a better place to relax and enjoy life. We have traveled world wide and this is one of our favorites, so don't tell too many of your friends.

Peggy and Monta set the standard for friendliness and elegance in bed and breakfast accommodation in downtown Gainesville. They welcomed my adult daughter and myself into their beautifully restored Queen Anne home, showed us into a suite-sized room so perfect we had to photograph each other the moment Monta left us to settle in. Somehow they had built in a jacuzzi without detracting from the old-world elegance, and there was plenty of floor space despite the king-sized antique bed, the lovely sofa in the bay window, the walk-in closet and separate powder room, with luxurious robes for each of us. Monta was full of recommendations for fine restaurants and evening entertainment, and he sent us off the next morning with our onward route mapped out after a delicious four-course breakfast. We loved the kittens playing in the garden.

We stayed at the Laurel Oak a couple of times and each time everything was perfect. The host greet you as if you have been friends for years. The wine and cheese get- together was lovely, the bedroom with a fireplace and jacuzzi tub was beautiful with all that you could want. The breakfast with a wonderul presentation was delicious. I recommend this B&B to all, and look forward to staying there again in the future.

Hubby and I travel extensively and always try to stay at Bed and Breakfasts. The Laurel Oak Inn is hands down the best. It is everything an Inn should be. Monta and Peggy are perfect innkeepers, always at the ready with a glass of wine, a double chocolate cookie, or great conversation. It is a home away from home. If you like crisp linens, super cozy beds, and waking up to the scents of coffee brewing and bacon cooking, this inn is for you.
