“A Gem in Gainesville”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

A not-to-be missed attraction in Gainesville. A wonderful museum -- that charges no admission fee. The butterfly exhibit does charge a fee, but it's worth it. You'll have the chance to see beautiful, exotic butterflies from around the world. A delightful place to visit while in Gainesville.

“Don't Miss This One”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

The University of Florida Museum has a butterfly exhibit and research facility all within the museum. It is phenomenal. There are windows where you can watch the activities in the research lab and see the chrysalids that they are hatching. Go There! I loved the Native American crafts section with taped conversations with some of the crafters. There were examples of the Seminole patchwork clothing, beading and jewelry, and baskets. Go on the website to see all the wonderful exhibits. We have learned to visit museums (of any kind) that are located on college campuses. Some special exhibits have a fee, but the main museum is free. There is something for all interests and ages.

“Butterflys”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

We had heard of the butterfly exhibit from friends and decided to stop by on our way home from a visit to Florida. The Museum is on the campus of the University of Florida in the surprisingly cosmopolitan city of Gainesville. The butterfly exhibit was extremely well done with floral and plant displays in addition to all the exotic butterflies flitting about you. The rest of the museum was particularly interesting, if you are at all interested in the aboriginal and geologic history of Florida. The Museum is well planned for adult and child interests with many interactive displays.
Definitely worth a side trip.
