“Loved It”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2009

We stayed in Lilly Cottage for our anniversary in December. The staff was extremely friendly at check-in and during our stay. Our cottage was immaculate and so charming. We would definitely return.

We love staying at B & B's and Inns. Have stayed in many all across the country. It was our 16th anniversary. We booked the "romantic" Honeymoon Cottage at Sweetwater Branch Inn. The place was dark and drab. Not enough lighting in the cottage or outside. "Tiny" TV.....not convenient to watch from anywhere in the room. Mattress mushy.
In the morning we decided to get in the jacuzzi. Not enough hot water to fill the tub! Not even enough to run the jets! Then not enough hot water to take a shower, even after waiting over 35 minutes. When we reported this, the staff only said they would tell the maintenance man.
Shower was so small it was hard to bend over. The decor was not attractive. Dirty looking sofa. Not updated at all. NOT WORTH THE MONEY! This place has potential. The grounds are pretty, but the buildings need updating and they NEED more lighting outside and inside. Go somewhere else until they get it together.

Thank-you so much for bringing this to our attention. We appreciate when customers take the time to let us know how we can improve our Inn.

Based on your review, we have completely revamped our Honeymoon Cottage. We have made improvements to decor, furnishings and fixtures. We look forward to your next visit and we are confident you will like the changes we have made.

My husband and I took our son to U of F for his junior year and wanted a place to stay for a brief respite from our normally very hectic lives. Sweetwater Branch Inn was just what we were hoping for and more. We actually stayed in two different rooms because we called to reserve our rooms at the last minute. The Blue Room was small but lovely. The Isadora Room was more beautiful and incredibly large! Their breakfast was delicious. We sat outside near the small fountain on the patio, and even in the hottest month of the year we were cool. There was a wedding right below our room on the second night and we didn't hear a thing until the very last minute when everyone raised their voices to wish the bride and groom farewell. Restaurants abound in this area and are only a 5 minute walk from the Inn. This is my first review that I've ever written but I felt compelled to extol the virtures of this place.

  • Liked — The rooms were beautiful and tastefully decorated.
  • Disliked — Management not very accessible, busy with other responsibilities

This is one of the best B&Bs we have had the pleasure to visit. The property is beautifully preserved, maintained, decorated and the innkeeper and staff warm, friendly and extremely accomodating. We could not ask for more - I recommend it highly. Breakfast was fresh, made to order and delicious. The gardens are gorgeous, rooms beautifully appointed and clean, and it is walking distance to many restaurants, shops and entertainment downtown. This is the cream of the crop - a great reason to visit Gainesville all by itself. We are going back in June!

We checked in here as a break from the usual hotel chain and it was a very pleasant stay. The character of the property is very attractive and the staff were, without exeception, very helpful. After a few days it felt like home. Would recommend this to almost any traveller that would appreciate the homely feel. I can see that this may not attract young familes but for everyone else its good.

  • Liked — Home from home atmosphere
  • Disliked — Missed the entrance in the dark as the sign lamps all need replacing!

We stayed at Sweetwater Branch Inn recently attending a Gator football game. The B&B is clean and runs very smoothly even though it is large and has a different clientele than most B&B's with many colllege age kids and families. The breakfast was great both mornings. The only problem we had was with the bed. We stayed in the Picadilly Room and it was the worst bed ever-must have been 25 years old. Also our daughter slept on the sofa bed that had a blow up mattress but the air leaked out during the night...

We have apologized to the guest for finding the bed uncomfortable and have given them a gift certificate for their inconvenience. We hope they will come back soon.

An excellent bed and breakfast in a great location! Sweetwater Branch Inn is two beautiful Victorian houses with lovely rooms, garden area and front porchs with rocking chairs. It is on the "main street" in Gainesville, but that enhances the experience as we enjoyed sitting on the front porch, drinking a glass of wine and eating cheese (provided every evening) in the rocking chairs watching the activity. The breakfast buffet on the weekend was the best ever - many many delicious selections. Weekdays was just as good but with individual breakfast orders. We did have a glitch where I was overcharged (didn't notice while there) and when I contacted the Inn on arriving home they not only immediately rectified the error but sent a note of apology within a few days! This is definitely the place to stay in Gainesville and I will definitely be staying here every time I return. A Fabulous Experience! We loved it!
