“Beautiful rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

This was right on the gulf with a beautiful view of gulf from our balcony. We stayed there five nights. The only bad thing was the elevator broke every day. We had to walk down seven flights of stairs numerous times. They did comp us one free drinks and a breakfast.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a balcony room viewing the gulf. Preferably not in A building where the elevator...

Rooms need new carpet. Bathrooms are very small. Rooms and hallways are dark. The pool areas are smaller than the photos make them look. Outdoor bar is tiny and in an awkward place. Hotel ok for one night stay but nothing longer.

Dear Our Value Guest;

We would like to thank you for your comments. Also, we want you to be aware that we were in the midst of an ongoing renovation. As of last week, right after the spring break, we have continued to replace our guest room carpets. In addition, please allow us to note that we have two pools, a large one and small one. Nontheless, your feedback is well received and considered as it is served as a training tool in the continued efforts to improve our products.

We hope you will come back, so you can have a different experience. Our property has a lot amenities and features to offer.

Best regards,

We spent a week at this resort, and enjoyed it very much. The rooms are clean and well lit. The rooms are not large, but are certainly adequate. The bed was not terribly comfortable, but was okay. The pool is nice and there were always plenty of chairs and towels. The beach access is very convenient, and beach chair/umbrella is provided to resort guests. The dining room was reasonable and the food was above average. Our only compliant was the sound of doors slamming in our building; seemed to be a combination of heavy metal doors and aggressive closers. There were many young people during our stay (sports teams), and they were in and out of the rooms a lot which generated more noise than usual. Anyways, we loved the resort and location and will plan to stay again.

Room Tip: first and second floors can't view beach.

An utter disappointment in all aspects and not up to the standards of most Holiday Inn Express properties. Where to begin . . . check-in: after attempting an early check-in (45 min early) at 3:15PM was told the room wasn't ready despite being an upper end room (Gulfront King Executive). Ok, I had time to go check out the Manatee Grill - a bright spot and the only redeeming quality of this property and the only reason I gave it two stars. The bartender and servers were friendly and laid back. Ok, so now it's 4:00 PM (normal check-in time), stand in line with the mass gaggle arriving and the room is still not ready - awesome! Even though they have a sign for Priority Check-In, don't believe it - there was a trainee manning it (solo) at each time I went to the desk and this was later confirmed by Danny who later (9:15PM) said "it really doesn't mean anything". Ok, it's 4:30, I stand in line again and at 5:00 PM was checked-in. No acknowledgement of being a Priority Club member and not offered anything for the inconvenience other than a $10 off breakfast coupon - thanks for nothing considering at their "resort" the prices are inflated to that level and a break even proposition at best. If you're lucky, they may let you spin the "Priority Club Wheel" and if you're lucky - maybe get a bottle of water. Did not even get Wifi codes . . . I asked to speak to the Manager on Duty (Melanie) and she couldn't apologize enough (no really she couldn't and it became tiresome after 5 minutes). She asked if I was offered anything for the trouble and when I told what they did offer, that seemed sufficient to her. She was not aware that there was a trainee at the station with a Priority Club sign until I told her that yes she had been there since the first time I went to the desk at 3:15PM - it is very telling how engaged her management style was. Corporate was contacted, but since I was "on property" that management had to be given the opportunity. After dealing with this until 9:15PM, I decided to wait and post my experience on this forum. The other issue is that I am a local and was attempting to relax between Spring Break season and the Summer on the most beautiful beaches in the country. So much for that thanks to the Holiday Inn Resort. Even without the check-in debacle, the rooms and elevators are dated and insufficient. As the title states . . . don't waste your time unless third rate service and facilties are acceptable.

Room Tip: Try the Hampton Inn (free breakfast) or Sheraton Fourpoints for Gulfside in same price category.

We certainly didn't consider this hotel to be a "resort", but we did enjoy our stay. As Priority Club Platinum, we were upgraded to a nice suite, with a beautiful view of the ocean. The suite was large, with a separate room with 2 double beds, a small kitchen, and living room area with couch. We couldn't have asked for a better room layout or view. Although the room appeared to have been recently updated, it was obvious that the property is old and there is nothing luxurious about this place. However, this property is right on the Gulf of Mexico with a spectacular beach location; the included umbrella and 2-chair setup at the beach is very convenient and comfortable. We had requested an early check-in, which the property could not accommodate (no big deal); however, I left my cell phone number at 11:30 AM and asked that they call me when the room was available and nobody ever called, even though I checked a couple of hours later and they pointed to a sticky note with my name and phone # and assured me that they would call. At normal check-in time, I checked again and the room was indeed ready -- I really wish they would have called as promised. Fortunately, we were relaxing at the beach while waiting for the room. The only other issue we experienced was that our stay was during spring break and there were large groups of teenagers staying at the hotel, apparently for a baseball tournament. Unfortunately our room was surrounded by these LOUD teenagers and it was a long night, with partying and loud noises most of the night. The breakfast buffet was very good and kids <12 eat free, so a nice breakfast buffet for 2 adults and 2 (free) children was less than $25 (no free breakfast for Platinum members at this property). The hotel location on Okaloosa Island is just over the bridge from Destin, but a world away from the overcrowded mass of resorts and people in Destin, yet convenient to go across the bridge for dinner or to play putt-putt golf with the kids. Note that all rooms do NOT have an ocean view and the view of the parking lot didn't look too appealing.

Room Tip: Suite with an ocean view.

We stayed back in june...I wrote a review but I guess I never saved it correctly. We booked this property because of location. We booked a basic run of the house room. They put us in a room next to the elevator overlooking the parking lot.. We unpacked i noticed a noise that sounded like water running. I thought wow that's funny and then we left the room. By the time we got back it was late. We took advantage of the movie rental. We watched a movie and I noticed the water sounds again. Then I realized it wasn't water sounds it was the elevator. I called down to the desk. They immediately moved us. We were moved to a partial ocean view room with a kitchenette. They staff was nice and very helpful. I know when I return this year. I will definitely spend the money for the kitchenette room. This hotel is directly on the beach. It s pretty quite area. The have beach chairs with umbrellas and the staff watches to make sure people don't mess with ur stuff.
