ONLY THE MAIN BLDG w/6 Floor (84) "Beachfront rooms" are right across from beach (& as noted NOT the 2 other "strictly 'motel' poorer Bldgs). Hotel belongs to SPG (though not at appropriate level). "Beachfront Rooms" are only average by today's 'newer' "standards" even with the "completely redoneness" herein below proclaimed.
(Four Points Destin FWB Manager Response:October 9, 2012-
"Each room in the three buildings have been recently rennovated from front to back and
The #1 CONTINUOUSLY reviewed redeeming quality of this SPG is their "BALCONY" (as well as INCREASED price point this 'feature' commands, whether in 'Season' or Not) therefore it stands to reason that these "Balconies" should NEVER have sub-par or poor quality "threadbare" CHAIRS or in any way broken GLASS exposed tabletop TABLES on ANY of their 84 ONLY Balcony Rooms--period, no excuses. (And, IS NOT a guest/customer responsibility to 'inform' or expose to anyone - when 'Staff' has already reported a room in "Status" as "Ready").
The broken furnishings provided were not only fact for my 6th floor mid bldg room (being the
'absolute' best location quoted by ALL 'thrilled' reviewers), but also others that I could easily see from my own "Balcony", during my stay.
Bathtubs STILL have "shower curtains that are so long that you can not avoid standing on them while showering!" (Fact-unchanged as of our stay, from a previous review)
ANY Plumbing and/or drainage has no excuses in a supposedly "upscale" SPG unit. (Unchanged from multiple mentions in reviews)
Missing grout/caulking on 'newer' marbled tiles in tub/shower (that especially pose a water leakage for rooms of floors below) should simply NOT exist within 3 months in any of these 84 rooms being "completely" redone within 6 months (above Mgt. quote) and then EVEN IF "quarterly" checked (see below).
(as Mgmt has replied to previous reviewer: ie General Manager- Jan 22, 2013 "Our
maintenance department is currently going through every room doing our QUARTERLY
preventative maintenance program" ).
Room carpeting that "appears" clean/remodeled should not be discoloring clean white socks within 20 minutes.
So, bring clogs, slippers, or sandals if you come here just like any 'lower' grade motel chain. (Note** This is easily prevented at most/all "higher end hotels" by tiled entrances at doorways and even balconies, ESPECIALLY WHEN room door is an Exterior Entrance).
A VERY apparent "Updating error" overlooked.
Room furniture just - okay - literally not 'really' SPG quality. Lighting is good to better. Bedding was Downlite and nice, BUT matresses were truthfully only - okay - when comparing to other even 'cheaper' chains (in fairness though I sleep on Tempur).
Color scheme appealing and 'newer' as most SPGs.
Bathrooms with new marble sinktops, backsplashing, surround shower, with slate tile flooring, BUT, - Note comments above.
Large LG Plasma, nice 4ft frig/wfrzr, mini micro, & cabinets w/storage w/sink.
Yes, the "free" (as advertised) water provided inclusive 2 adult rate is a 1 pint small bottle per room- not really an effective gesture or impression for Four Point brand name.
Please, also remember, our 6 Day Stay transpired in the slower 'guest' volumne of Feb 2013 and within 6 months of 2 to 3 other "reviewer" commentators that had the fortitude to just speak up on these repetitive issues (as 98.7% never do), but, as for "SPG" to choose to continue to ignore, well, when there are SO MANY 'OTHER CHOICES', absolutely 'newer' builds, AND construction within a 20 MILE RADIUS that are ALSO, 'Beachfront' and "Balconied", shows to be lackluster at best.
Food in restaurant is average at best, but at least it is competitive within "this area" serviced of Des/Ft Walton in Florida.
However, that said, it would not suffice in a different more competitive locale, or even other quality SPG units.
Yes, the 2 'adultish' pools are very 'cute' & nice, and work is being done regarding hot tub capabilities. Keep in mind though that this location is more of an 'adult'/mature type property and is not the 'kids resort' type of a business model.
Over my many years (60) and millions of traveled miles (+2 mil on land) with 'family' and now 'grown' family, I had never 'signed up' or joined "point/reward memberships" for lack of time and will to do so. Being a newish member to SPG I am not however, new to the conglomerated chain of SPG offerings: St Regis NY, a few of the W's, many Westin locations, and even many
more of the Sheratons, whether being within the US and also many countries. Thusly, my review/comments have been made with respect to the personal experiences and comparisons to this same brand (Four Points) and other brands (SPG units), along with others, in other locations.
Overall, if you are looking for the norm "Sheraton" experience and associated costs then do NOT use your SPG Points. Use CASH and/or even discounts, if possible, as other reviewers have repeatedly mentioned, AND THEN ONLY BOOK to stay in one of the 84 Main Bldg "Gulf Front" rooms. This will avoid the "cheaper Motel chain" feel and overcharge, "expectation" complaints, and loss of the "Sheraton status" relating to negative reviews and comments on the Sheraton and Tripadvisor websites.
Do, however, keep in mind above comments and consistencies, as changes most likely, will not take place anytime soon.
Instead, enjoy life, the wondrous Gulf, the area, and all of the people living around here, have to offer.
ONLY the MAIN BUILDING - or just stay at Motel 6.
