“Nice hotel overall; but room had bad odor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2011

This hotel is located next to the Okaloosa Island pier and boardwalk and has easy access to the beach. I would have ranked it higher, but the foyer / kitchenette in our room smelled like urine.

Despite the odor, the room had an updated attractive decor. The grounds of the hotel were well maintained.

Before departure, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast al fresco at the Paradise Cove restaurant on-site.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a beach view

We stayed there free using our points. At arrival the staff was very friendly. got a courtyard room overlooking the pool. The room is nothing fancy, has fridge and microwave.

The only complaints we have is that the bathroom is a bug magnet. I am not sure what kind of bugs it was, looked like little tiny ants that got in my wife coffee mug and my cup of soda. Just make sure you do not leave any food or drinks out near the fridge or it will have the black ants in there.

House keeping service is spotty. Some days they didnt even bother come in and clean the room. They just hanged some new towels on the door handle leaving a note saying that we couldn't get in to clean. When we got back, wife called the front desk and they came and did their thing.

5 min walk to the beach, it has a cool bar, had 2 heated pools, one was always empty

overall hotel was fine, nothing special, would not stay here again since the beaches and all the activities we did were in destin.

Fabulous hotel right on the beach with 2 pools and great views overlooking white beaches and emerald waters. Sheraton hospitality was outstanding as usual - royal treatment with upgrade to the best ocean view suite with a humungous balcony with deck chairs & all (Spg platinum). Breakfast buffet was really
sumptuous & dinner was pretty good as well. Only wished we stayed a bit longer! Would definitely
recommend this hotel. Saw a lot of dolphins swimming very close in the bay. Nice landscaping & beautiful beach.

My husband and I was very pleased with the friendly service we received from check in until check out. They gave us a suite for 2 days due to a special promotion and when it was time to check out of the suite, they didn't want to disturb our vacation with us moving to another room, so they let us stay in the suite for a very good price, which we really found them to be very accommodating. The hotel is located closer to many amenties, for good seafood, kids activities, and excitement. The rooms are very nice and clean, most with balconies. You really don't have to leave the hotel for fun, sits beachfront, music, bars good breakfast, pools. We've been to the Destin area 2 times on the other end, but the Ft- Walton area, we enjoyed the most at this Sheraton.

This hotel is extremely clean. Beds very comfortable. I loved the medium-size refrigerator, also, as you can put a lot of groceries in them and it's really convenient. The only complaint I have is that they charge for chairs and umbrellas on the beach. Why can't that be another amenity, at least for those of us who are paying so much for a beachfront room? Otherwise,it was a great deal, as we received free breakfast on our last morning, complete with a made-to-order omelet station, and a $50 gas card. I definitely hope to return there someday.

The hotel definitely needs some maintenance. But the rooms were large, with balcony to the beachfront. Two swimming pools. A very nice breakfast and very friendly and helpfull staff.

First of all, Destin is a place that is full of emotion for me. It is the place we took our kids the first time we did a spring break with the family. It was supposed to be a one and done visit, but it was so wonderful, and such a great time to travel, we made the trip from Chicago 6 more times during spring break while they were growing up. Now, flash forward, kids in college, youngest in high school, we wanted to get away, but couldn't afford the usual beachfront condo. Truly this Sheraton gem on the beach was the next best thing. It is not in Destin proper, but that doesn't mean you can't jump in the car, cross the bridge, and be in restaurant row in 15 minutes....plus, the water is your backdrop for most of the ride. All you really need from this location is white sand, a beach chair and a good book. We upgraded to an oceanfront room which was really a good idea because once we were done with the sun we could watch it set from our room. The room was perfectly fine, while slightly small for four of us. But I understand the courtyard rooms are bigger. We traded off for the ocean view so that's a choice you'll have to make. There are two pools at this hotel; both are very clean and nice. There is a hot tub which is up some stairs and quite beautifully landscaped. Actually, we saw the already pretty landscaping being improved upon throughout the days we were there. The only problem we encountered was when 3 coach busses from Tennessee pulled up full of college kids coming down for a fraternity dance--a two day affair!! The hotel was very organized in checking them all in while the existing guests looked a little worried. It was pretty much a hotel takeover, affecting our whole last day and night of vacation. While they were asked to stay to one side of the beach and seemed to comply, they dominated the hot tub area....we couldn't get near it --one of the kids was dancing in it with a bottle of Jack Daniels--not exactly a great thing for my high school freshman and her friend to witness. That night we tried to go to sleep early because we were leaving to drive back at 5AM. The door slamming and noise started about 10 and continued pretty much through the night. We even had some drunk college kids banging on our door at midnight, thinking our room belonged to their friends!! It was a bad ending to a very, very nice week so we took the good with the bad and just counted our blessings that we could get down to this little piece of paradise for a little escape.

Room Tip: Oceanview room is smaller than a courtyard room but pays off in the view.
