We took our family to Rick's for a birthday celebration in August. There were 9 in our party including 2 teenagers and 1 toddler. The hostess was very pleasant and seemed to have no problem when we requested a table other than the one that she had taken us to (we wanted to be out of the sun).

Our waiter (Justin) arrived promptly, greeted us with a big smile and took our drink order. The menu was quite varied with lots of great sounding seafood items as well as a nice kids menu. Our party ordered steamed clams, fried clams, fried shrimp, the wonderfully seasoned crab soup, and even a chicken dish - everything was DELIGHTFUL! Cooked to perfection.

Our oldest son and his wife shared the Steamer Bucket for 2 which included crab legs, crawfish, large shrimp, corn on the cob, oysters and heaven knows what else! They ate every last bite and loved it.

Rick's is not big on "atmosphere" but rather specializes in a view of the inlet with outside decks where you can feed the fish or watch the sunset. The decor is beach rustic and there's a nice cozy bar for the adults.

We would definitely recommend a visit to Rick's Crab Trap the next time you're in Ft. Walton Beach, FL.

My family (two adults, two teens) visited Rick's on a Sunday night for dinner, arriving about 6:30 pm. The dining room was uncrowded. The whole time we were there it never filled up, nevertheless, service was extremely slow. It took us more than 45 minutes to get our food when the waitress delivered three meals and told the fourth member of our party that they were out of her selection...would she like to order something else, instead? One would think that in this situation, the restaurant would expedite the new order, but that was not the case. It was still 20 minutes before the new order arrived. Drinks were rarely refilled. The dining room was unairconditioned and hot. I'm not entirely sure that the grilled amberjack I ordered was really amberjack. Rick's will be the last place I go next time I'm in Fort Walton Beach.

I have been to Rick's Crab Trap several times over the last 5 years or so. For the most part, the sea food is pretty good. The fries are nothing special. This is the type of restaurant that you go to when you want to get seafood off of the beaten path.

The servers there are hit and miss. We once had a party of 8 or so people, with split checks. This confused the heck out of the waitress. She even had the nerve to tell one person that they owed someone else $1.50 for the drink that she put on the wrong ticket. We had to tell her that she was going to go back to the computer and get it right. Pure laziness!

Bottom line: go there if you are tired of everywhere else in Ft. Walton / Destin...

well getting seated, a sign directed us to the bar...

the food on tables around us was laden with fried food.... including orida crinkle cut fries.

well we were avoiding the fried food... so we just ordered the grilled selection. healthy doesn't equal a 1/4 thin peice of meat. we ordered a amberjack and the red snapper . . . grilled. it was the same cut of meat served on a sandwhich. very disappointed.

the cutlery was terrible. it was the same serviceware I used in elementery and high school (really cheap, but no plastic) and then the glass ware was the same. Cheap plastic! Anyways the place was a dive from the plastic table clothes to the crappy food.

Service. no theres a sad subject for the place. we got our food and had to go to the bar for the check.

While its nice to think about eating at the water on a waterway, the food + service = a bad experience.
