Went to eat dinner here based upon other reviews. As it turns out, this is much more than a coffee shop, serving lunch and a fabulous dinner menu as well. The inside is open and pleasantly decorated, the front consisting of the coffee shop, proceeding to the tables and the kitchen area on the right.
Started out sitting outside, but the mosquitoes were having a feast so we opted to go inside. Our server Ryan was courteous and knowledgeable about the menu. We started off splitting their Soup of the Day - Roasted Tomato and Tuscan vegetable soup. Very tasty with eggplant, squash and chick peas. The only downside (my fault) was that the flavor was similar to my entree side, so I should have ordered their French Onion soup instead. We both went for seafood, me with the Pan seared Grouper and my wife with the Atlantic Salmon. Both fish were cooked just right - about Medium - and tasted great. The grouper came with chick peas, eggplant and a roasted tomato puree; the salmon with an Arugula salad and French fries (regular and sweet potatoes). No room for dessert, unfortunately.
A good beer list is available, and the wine list has a well-rounded selection with several varietals available by the glass.
The bistro also offers a Chef's table! This is a great opportunity for 6-8 guests to try a 4-5 course tasting menu specially prepared by the chef. Wine pairings are also available. Starts at $45 for food only (I think Ryan said wine pairings were $15). A few stipulations: the chef needs a minimum of one weeks' notice in order to special-order the desired items. Also, they need to know if anyone has any food allergies. After that, sit back and enjoy a wonderful feast!
Great food, unrushed service, nice atmosphere in a quiet location near the Brooks Bridge. So, why only four stars?
1. This place is listed as a coffee shop. It is much more than that, but without reading previous reviews it is hard to tell because
2. ...their website doesn't work. The owners have allowed it to lapse so there is no way to peruse their menus or hours of operations. I would not have known about the chefs' table if I hadn't seen it already pre-set as I walked by looking for the bathroom. This is way too nice a place to not have an operating website with pertinent information.
A worthy dining place in Ft Walton Beach!
