We loved staying at the Hampton, Ft. Walton Beach. Although the most of the rooms don't face the beach, it is just a quick walk out the back door of the hotel and you are right on the beach. This 2-story Hampton Inn is nestled right between two larger condominium developments. We were concerned that the beach might be very crowded, but it was pleasantly uncrowded and the beach-umbrella/chair rental guy got us set up in no time (only $25/day and well worth it).
The rooms were wonderful, large fluffy pillows, soft beds with thick blankets, a nice balcony to sit on and to dry our wet bathing suits. The room had everything, a mini-frig, microwave, big television, hair dryer, etc. etc. There was only one inconvenience during our stay when the water got shut off for some repairs and took longer to get back on than they anticipated. It was hard to stay in your salty, sandy bathing suits while waiting for the water to come on to take a shower, and of course not being able to use the toilets either! The breakfast was very good although the hotel keeps it quite cold in the eating/lobby area. We didn't plan on needing sweaters at the beach!
The hotel was very quiet, the staff very friendly and helpful. One tip for those who might consider staying at this Hampton; the front desk won't tell you but there are actually four rooms (two downstairs and two upstairs) that do actually face the beach. We didn't know this until we saw the layout when on the beach, so be sure to ask for these rooms if you want a beach view.
The only other comment we have is that this particular section of the beach had lots and lots of seaweed in the water and washed up on shore. We don't know if this was an all-the-time occurrence or just temporary. The water and the sand were lovely, but we didn't enjoy picking seaweed out of our swimsuits, hair, etc. If we return to the Destin, Ft. Walton area, we will be sure to research the beach conditions prior to booking our stay.
