I love the Hampton Inn chain and this particular Hampton did not dissapoint. The rooms are very clean, comfortable and quite. The hotel is on the beach with direct beach access and about 8 beach front rooms. The free breakfast is a free breakfast. It is not Cracker Barrel, but it is free. Bottom line is where else can you stay at a hotel on the beach for under $100 a night (most of the time) and get a free breakfast? I have stayed here twice and will definitely stay here again the next time I am back in Fort Walton Beach.

A friend and I spent one night at this hotel enroute from Southern Florida. I have stayed at this hotel numerous times in the past. Although the room was clean and quiet, the continental breakfast left much to be desired. There was sausage but no eggs - not even the boiled ones that you find on most hotel breakfast buffets. Missing also were my favorite Hampton Inn danishes that I find at most of the Hampton Inns. When we checked in, I asked if they baked cookies as other Hampton Inns do and they said "yes - but only Sundays - Thursday nights" - and we had checked in on a Friday.

As for the Internet access, we initially had a problem with accessing the server and maintaining the connection but then the problem seemed to resolve itself later that evening.

The beach access was convenient and the hotel staff was friendly. I will stay there agein but I will prepared to eat breakfast at the Waffle House up the street and I'll bring my own cookies..

  • Liked — Cleanliness of room and comfortable beds

Hampton Inn Ft. Walton Beach...
We stayed at the Hampton in August, 2008 for one week. My husband was in town on business, so my son and I tagged along. It rained the first 3 days while we were there, so we decided to save money and spend the last two nights at Eglin AFB. That was the worst mistake ever. Our stay at the Hampton had been wonderful, with a very clean room, friendly
Staff, delicious breakfast, a short walk to a beautiful beach, and a relaxed (but wet) 3 days. Realizing I had made a big mistake, I called Michelle at the Hampton to see if there were any available rooms for Thursday night. She had remembered me checking out on Wednesday, and was very sympathetic to my situation. She assured me she had availability and told me she’d have a room ready for me when I got back to the hotel. She put me on the first floor, poolside and encouraged me to head to the beach since the sun had finally come out. When I got back to my room later that afternoon, I found a basket full of apples, candles, mints, snack bars, and body lotion. That was the sweetest, most sincere thing anyone has done for me in a long time!! We decided to stay one extra night to make up for the night lost while staying on the AFB. Hampton Inn is my new number one choice in hotels. The accommodations were amazing. The location was perfect. The staff were outstanding. I definately will go back to the Hampton someday.

This hotel looks little out of place. Its between two large, new hotels and its only 2 stories. Most of the rooms face the other hotels; not the beach. It is right on the beach though and thats all that really counts. The rooms were very nice and convienient.

I do have to say that I travel quite a bit and the staff at this hotel is exceptional. They are friendly and always very helpful. While we were there, a large family reunion or something happened and the hotel was innundated with people for 3 days. The hotel was a bit overwhelmed. The staff handled it with professionalism and tack but above all; kindness and patence. I can't say enough about them. I was impressed. I will stay at this hotel again because of them.

  • Liked — The location and the exceptional staff.
  • Disliked — The pool is a bit small. Also, there is no control as to who uses the pool and I think some locals were using it.

We loved staying at the Hampton, Ft. Walton Beach. Although the most of the rooms don't face the beach, it is just a quick walk out the back door of the hotel and you are right on the beach. This 2-story Hampton Inn is nestled right between two larger condominium developments. We were concerned that the beach might be very crowded, but it was pleasantly uncrowded and the beach-umbrella/chair rental guy got us set up in no time (only $25/day and well worth it).

The rooms were wonderful, large fluffy pillows, soft beds with thick blankets, a nice balcony to sit on and to dry our wet bathing suits. The room had everything, a mini-frig, microwave, big television, hair dryer, etc. etc. There was only one inconvenience during our stay when the water got shut off for some repairs and took longer to get back on than they anticipated. It was hard to stay in your salty, sandy bathing suits while waiting for the water to come on to take a shower, and of course not being able to use the toilets either! The breakfast was very good although the hotel keeps it quite cold in the eating/lobby area. We didn't plan on needing sweaters at the beach!

The hotel was very quiet, the staff very friendly and helpful. One tip for those who might consider staying at this Hampton; the front desk won't tell you but there are actually four rooms (two downstairs and two upstairs) that do actually face the beach. We didn't know this until we saw the layout when on the beach, so be sure to ask for these rooms if you want a beach view.

The only other comment we have is that this particular section of the beach had lots and lots of seaweed in the water and washed up on shore. We don't know if this was an all-the-time occurrence or just temporary. The water and the sand were lovely, but we didn't enjoy picking seaweed out of our swimsuits, hair, etc. If we return to the Destin, Ft. Walton area, we will be sure to research the beach conditions prior to booking our stay.
