My husband and I stayed at the Hampton Inn Fort Walton for three nights. Check in was at 4:00pm. We tried to check in at 3:15pm and were told to walk around or go somewhere to eat until 4:00 or 4:30pm! When we came back from dining, at around 4:15pm the switch in staff members at the front desk proved to be to our advantage and we were given a great room right on the beach. Then, it rained for all three days we were there! We went to the Gulfarium to see dolphins & sealions preforming. This was delightful and within walking distance from the Hampton. The complimentary breakfeast was great, however, we had to wake at 6am to navigate amoung the masses of people grabbing food and families with multiple children standing around. The policy is that kids under 18 can stay in a room for free! The fellow travelers said "hi" down the hallways and it was nice to be surrounded by friendly, well-behaved families. We were the only couple without children nearly everywhere we went. If your the type of person that is bothered by this, please take it into account. The staff was friendly and helpful. Another reviewer mentioned the beds, and yes, this was the most comfortable bed I had ever slept in. I am trying to find out how to make my own bed more like this one that we slept in at the Hampton.
