“Great Family-Friendly Accomodations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

This is a great Condo. We were in a two bedroom with a set of bunk beds. It was very roomy and nicely decorated. It was perfect for a family of 6. We were close to the parking garage and thought it might be noisy -- but no issue. And it certainly made packing and unpacking easy. While the walk to the beach was further, it was not a big deal. The swimming pool areas were awesome. Something for every one. Great location on the beach.

We just returned from a 5-day stay at the Waterscape condos and had a great time! We stayed in Unit A326, which is in a great location overlooking the upper level pool area and very close to the parking ramp. It is updated and very nice (granite, tile, bunk beds, 2 full bathrooms, laundry, etc.), although it must have sat empty for some time, as it hadn't been dusted and the floors were dirty/sandy.

The property itself is very nice, well taken care of and clean. The pools are nice sized with different things for the kids to do, splash pools, a snack bar (which desperately needs more than 2 employees), a lazy river and is within steps to the beach. The amenity card that comes with the unit allows you 2 chairs and an umbrella per day to use on the beach, which is definitely a nice perk.

The Waffle House directly in front of the resort is small but the servers are always happy and the food is great!

It's generally very quiet in the buildings. You occasionally can hear little feet running up and down the halls but for the most part, we couldn't hear other units or people talking outside at all.

If you've never stayed at an owner-resort before, it's a bit of a different process. We checked in after 5pm and, as the Resort Quest front desk folks are happy to tell you, "this is not a full service hotel"! For late check ins, you go to this little cubby by the front lobby, use the phone to call a secret number and they give you a secret code to open the secret door to retrieve your packet. Examine the packet carefully! This has your gate code, wi-fi code, etc. but it's hidden pretty well if you're just flipping through the papers and not paying attention (which is what I did).

Because this resort is not like a hotel, there is no housekeeping service and your supplies in the unit are limited (although this unit had an abundance of bath towels, oddly enough). For instance, you are provided with 1 box of laundry soap and one (1) roll of toilet paper for the entirety of your stay. Understanding that they shouldn't have to fund your laundry for the week, one roll of toilet paper --- for four (4) people, for five (5) days? Anyway, if you're there for more than a few days, plan to make a trip to the Tom Thumb down on the corner.

The units are owned by individuals who presumably are responsible for repairs, maintenance, etc. This particular unit needed some love in the way of fresh paint, wiping down walls, locks on the doors, etc. (there are two sliding glass doors in this unit and neither of them had functional locks but instead used 2x4s or whatever to block them from sliding open). Just FYI that there are some things Resort Quest may not handle.

The parking ramp is an absolute nightmare. I don't know what the architect was thinking in the design phase but it's two-way traffic throughout, there are huge columns at every turn and very limited space for cars to pass. You have to completely stop before going up to the next level to let other cars by. If someone takes the corner too fast and isn't watching ahead for cars, there could be issues. There simply is not enough space in there for a two-lane format.

I don't know if this is a 'con' necessarily but there are no restaurants or bars attached to the resort. That being said, the resort is within walking distance - or a short drive - to just about everything so it's a non-issue. There are several grills in the pool areas as well that were always busy.

One final comment (also not a con): this is a very family friendly resort. Lots of kids around all the time. If you're looking for an adult get-away, this is not the place for you.

Overall, we would definitely recommend Waterscape. We will stay somewhere else next time but only because Destin is beautiful and we like to try different places.

Sidenote: Boshamps restaurant in Destin is a must! Fantastic food, beautiful views and a fun sandy area for the kids to mess around in. Loved it!

After reading some of the negative reviews regarding WAterscape, I was a little concerned about how our stay was going to turn out. This was our first time to fort Walton beach. In the past,we have went to gulf shores, this year we wanted to try something different. Waterscape is a great place for families. I have 3 boys(6,9 and 12 yrs old),and they all had a great time. They loved playing on the rope ladder across the pool and swimming in the lazy river. I would advise bring some type of water gloves for the rope climbing across the pool. By the 2nd day, all 3 of my boys had blisters on their hands because they played on it so much. I was concerned about the pool security/ personnel, and how they were going to be. We didn't have any problems with them. Just have to wear the wristbands and no drinking containers within 3 feet of the pool. I was a little disappointed with all of the seaweed at the beach. It was clear a couple of days, but majority of the time there was a lot of seaweed. That was one of the reasons that we decided to not stay at gulf shores this year, we wanted clear emerald green water. So, the water situation was a little disappointing. The sand was very nice. I enjoyed having the beach service of umbrella and chairs included in the rental. It was very nice not having to haul chairs and umbrellas to the beach. Definite plus. We enjoyed paddle boarding and kayaking.
Our condo was on the 6th floor and was very nice, updated. It had everything that we needed.
The boys did well with the bunk beds, they had their own tv mounted on the wall by the bunk beds, which was a nice plus for them.
Overall, waterscape is definitely a resort/condominium that our family would love to come back to.

If you have children and are looking for a great location for a nice family vacation that includes lots of time at the beach or swimming, this is the place. We found everything to be very, very nice. We were a group of six. 4 audlts and two small children. We opted for a 2 bedroom. There were two full bathrooms complete with walk-in showers, double vanaties, and lots of room. There was also a half bath. And a nice little nook with two bunk beds for the kids. The kitchen was fully outfitted and the washer and dryer came in very handy. The living room and dining area were also perfect. The unit was nicely decorated.

We were a little concerned aboout some of the negative reviews we read here on TripAdvisor. We did not observe any of the issues that were mentioned. Everything was exactly as presented on the website (Hotels.com) and exactly what we expected. This is a place that gets a lot of wear and tear. And from what I can tell, they do a pretty good job keeping it in good condition.

I was also concerned about "the rules." Yes, there are rules, but once you've taken time to read them (regarding the pool), they make perfect sense. I think that it's those that just have trouble with rules in general that had a problem. For example, if you think you can come down at 8 a.m. and put your towels on chairs and then disappear for several more hours, your wrong. The Pool Police do keep an eye out for people reserving chairs. If you do want to get a good spot, you do need to go down early and stake you claim....and stay with it. And I really appreciate that they do not allow smoking at the pool. This was very nice. Only one day were we a little bothered by the fellow guests who brought their own radio and played it loudly right by us. But the vast majority of the time was very pleasant. Also, be advised, the pools are very crowded. But there are three pools and a lazy river, so the crowds seems to fit in fine. Also, be advised there is not a lot of shade. You're only hope here is to sit beneath some palm trees to get a little bit of shade.

Some helpful tips.
- When we come again, we are bringing two larger non-stick frying pans. The small stainless steel pans provided were too easily burned. We didn't actually fry anything....but we did use them for heating just about everything.
- Bring coat hangers. There aren't any.
- If you are driving and have room, bring pillows.
- We bought all the provisions we needed at a nearby Publix grocery store. It was a little more expensive that most places, but it was close.
- Don't forget some basic spices if you plan to cook anything.
- You get just an initial set up of toilet paper, paper towels, etc. So you will need to buy some of these items.
- We used paper plates and napkins for every meal. Sure makes clean-up easier.

First off I have never had to write a review. I was very disappointed in the condition of this condo. We paid $1750 for 3 nites, which in my book is rather pricey. We like to stay in nice places when we go to the beach. The unit C 600 looked like it had not been cleaned in a while. The ceiling fans had a buildup of dust, comforters had chocolate stains on them, walls were filthy, patio furniture was not great, floors were filthy, horrible pillows and beds, and furniture definately needed updating. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

My wife and children (11 & 15) had a great time. The 1 BR condo with double bunks was perfect. The kitchen was stocked with dishes, pans and small wares. Granite countertops are great in the kitchen and the place is nicely furnished. The room also had a full size couch and oversized chair both with pullout beds. This room can sleep 7, but not comfortably. Covered parking is readily available. If you dont like being around kids of any age group, Dont Go to this location. If you dont like crowds in the resort or poll, DONT GO. If you want romance or quiet time, DONT GO. Otherwise, it's a great spot. The resort is located in a perfect location in FW, but traffic can be tough traveling into Destin. There are restaurants, package store (across street) and beach specialty stores close by. Food can be purchased at Publix .5miles away, but the prices are CRAZY. Drive 2.5miles up Beal Parkway to Walmart for the best deals. Approx 8 gas grills on the property....great for saving money on meals and poolside cooking is great. The rooms are overpriced, but nice. My 7 day stay was $2300 all in during peak season in Jul. Wait until Aug and prices drop considerably. The rate is high because of the pools mainly targeting kids For this rate, you can get similar or better in Santa Rosa area. In summary, great place for family!!

Room Tip: There is no daily room service. Kid resort.....not for couples

I should've taken more of the negative reviews seriously, but I didn't. This place was recommended by a friend of ours so we thought it would be great.

Our favorite towel was confiscated while my husband was IN the pool with our two children (ages 4 and 8). I guess he exceeded the 45 minute time allowance out of your chair...GRR! They have a room called the towel jail that I went to try to find our towel, but it was anywhere that I could see. There were two walls full of towels, shoes, toys, chairs, etc. Plus the room had a terrible mildew smell because of all the wet towels being kept in there for so long. EWW!

It was nearly impossible to find chairs by the lower level pool. We would end up sitting our family of 4 on 1 chair, and that was not relaxing for the price that you pay. We were on the 3rd row of beach chairs on the first day. Because of their ages, we obviously can't be that far away from our kids while they are in the water or playing near it. I just sat down there at the water on a towel. I thought it would be no biggie to get down there early the next day to get a front row chair. On the next day, I did get a chair right on the front, but I had to get down there at 7:10 and didn't get our chair until 8:15am. That was an entire hour wasted only to find people with their own chairs parked in front of us once we got back down with the kids. You didn't feel like you had much privacy on your balcony because the other building was immediately beside us and you could see & hear everything that they were doing on their balcony as well.

Our room was standard. Someone had spilled something under the bed that was nasty looking, and then our screen was ripped going out to the balcony. It wasn't up to my cleaning standards when we arrived as there were still fingerprints and food on the handles of the refrigerator. The dryer would only work on HIGH, and I would have to restart it at least 5 times per load. I finally gave up and saved laundry for home. Also, the sheets were too small for our bed so they wouldn't even stay on while we slept. The grounds were pretty and well maintained, but it just isn't worth the cost. We have stayed many places from Navarre to Destin, Perdido Key, Gulf Shores, 30A & Fort Walton Beach and this was our least favorite. We are very low maintenance. We like to walk on the beach & enjoy family time together. We will stay somewhere else next year. On a positive note, the kids did enjoy the kid activities that they had planned each day. We did receive hair feathers and tattoos and both of my girls hair feathers fell out the very next day.
