“Awesome Condo #B500 - Busy Resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2012

Our 3BR 3 1/2 BA condo was beautiful and spacious. You definitely feel special in this condo. My family loved the condo, but the resort was way too busy for us. We were not prepared for the volume of kids at the pool all the way to closing time at 10 pm. This is the only reason I didn't rate this condo as excellent. My family did not enjoy the crowds of Florida Panhandle, but Ft Walton is 100 times better than Destin. If you enjoy high density condos lined up down beaches, Florida Panhandle will fit you well. The condo B500 is worth the price for oceanfront luxury if you chose Florida.

We rented 107A, beautiful condo. Minor repairs were needed-we left a note. The pool area= nightmare!Crowded and no chairs ever available because they were saved all day with towels and no people. The kids run amuck while the adults are constantly "in trouble".No adult only swim time- that would make a huge difference, maybe then we could have gotten near a pool!We won't stay again because adults don't seem to be welcome. Also, the beach was disgusting with 1 foot deep seaweed that was NEVER cleaned up! For what you pay- adults should be able to swim and they should clean the beach!

Room Tip: We enjoyed the bottom floor-facing the outside empty lot next to the building-easy walk to beach and...

We stayed in A207. Ocean view and faced an open lot with no buildings right next to us. If you are looking for quiet, the A building facing out is the place to be. I would expect that the units that face the pool are very noisy. Pros: Big clean condo that sleeps up to 8 comfortably with everything you need. Right on the beach. Big pool area with something for everyone (lazy river, quiet upper pool, action packed main pool, kiddie pool, 2 hot tubs), Many good quality gas grills in pool area that are professionally cleaned and make cooking easy for whole family. Lanscaping was nice. Activities for the kids (karaoke night by the pool was fun. only wish they did it twice a week instead of once).
Cons: Front office is not open very long during the day (dont ask for anything early or late because there is nobody there), Big resort with lots of people (beach was very crowded), They pack you in like sardines at the beach in front of the resort (since we drive we bring our own beach chairs and umbrellas and get away from the crowd) If i didnt drive, I would go to walmat and buy cheap lawn chairs and a cheap umbrella and throw it away after the trip rather than be crammed in that sea of resort chairs. Traffic around the resort was pretty bad. Last but not least, price! I thought it was pricey compared to other comparable places I have stayed.
In the end, the pros were way better than the cons and it was another anual family vacation for my wife and 5 children that will go down in the memory book as a great enjoyable fun filled time.

Room Tip: A building facing out for quiet and privacy.

I feel the need to defend the Security team. We stayed here 6 days in late July 2012 and had no negative run ins with them! They've actually been very nice. Wear your wristband people!! It's a requirement that was stated to me upon checkin and is very obviously posted throughout the resort. Put the wristband on and KEEP IT ON! Also, about the towels being moved from pool chairs. I haven't noticed this, but honestly I wish it was being done more! It's really annoying to walk by chair upon chair upon chair that isn't actually in use - just has a towel on it while my family of 4 can't find a single chair available to share! Reading on trip advisor how others have left their towels in chairs at the pool and gone gallivanting off to the beach really shows just how selfish some people can be! Follow rules, people, (including the rules of common courtesy!) and if you choose not to, don't hold it against Waterscape's security for calling you out.

... Reviewers do have a point about the annoyance with the beach chairs and umbrellas. They are very close together and you're not likely to get a front row seat. However, all these "problems" are just because it's peak season. If you want to vacation at the beach in July, there are going to be a lot of people here! We've been to Waterscape in April and October, and wristbands weren't required, pool chairs abounded, and beach chairs and umbrellas were readily available - even multiple ones to a condo -shhh!!! ;)

A511 - 2 bedrooms (queen and full) plus 1 set of bunk beds - beautifully decorated, beach/pier view - love it!!!!

We rented Unit B607 from the owner at: http://www.vrbo.com/346743. It was great. We took our teenage kids and friends and had a blast over Memorial Day weekend. We spoke to the owner and found out we could rent a pontoon boat from Crab Island Watersports which was located at the foot of the bridge within walking distance. We took it to Crab Island and had a blast. We cooked out on the grills a few times and went to eat at places that you can easily walk to. Helen Back Pizza was great! We also love the Crab Trap restaurant by the pier. Go there for lunch. The Old Bay Steamer was a little expensive, but GREAT seafood, you will not be unhappy with that choice.

We did notice the pool police, but found that if you did as you were suposed to, wear your bracelets, there was no problem. The beverage by the pool is some crazy Florida law. Seems strange, but hey. I do like that the security teams are keeping people out that pay the Hampton Inn rates and want the amenities that Waterscape has to offer. They could just be a little nicer. I would reccomend this unit at the link above to anyone that has a group of 6 to 8 or less.

Room Tip: Get a room with a Gulf view or a room that faces the middle of the property to see al lthe pool and...

This was our 2nd stay at waterscape. We came back, because it was so nice the first visit, and was kid friendly. This time however, was a security nightmare. I felt like we were in Mayberry and we were the enemy. We were harassed at every turn. No drinks by the pool, no toys in the pool, and lord forbid if you didn't have your wristband! I think there was a holding pen/ solitary confinement punishment for those offenders. I was standing at the edge of the zero entry kiddie pool, with my drink because the ground was scalding- almost went to jail for that. They literally were checking behind bushes and planters by the hot tub for drink offenders. Really despicable. Johnny cop and the gang, really sought to make our lives miserable, and succeeded. We paid thousands of dollars to stay and the only time we were left alone was on the beach. They really took it too far. Will never stay again. We just returned from the Margaritaville Beach Hotel in Pensacola and it was AWESOME. Was expensive, but we received excellent service for the thousands of dollars we spent, and here's a novel idea - we had a personal waitress serving drinks and snacks by the pool. Don't go to Waterscape!!!!!!

We had no problems with Waterscape Resort itself. My 12 year old loved the lazy river and pool area, our room was very clean (A402), we had a great view and had no problems with security whatsoever - but then, we all wore the required bracelets. You won't find a harder-working group of people than the beach staff - they were very polite and answered all our questions. As for the umbrellas being reserved, owners of condos were the only people allowed to reserve them ahead of time. I went down around 7:30 each morning and had my pick. The only problems I had with Waterscape itself was the crowd - far too many people crammed into umbrellas too close together. This was our first time in the Destin area and we won't go back. We didn't care for the location of Waterscape and usually prefer a less crowded location. Most of the restaurants we tried were unimpressive and just not good, the exception being The Black Pearl and Ali's Bistro in the historical section just across the bridge from Waterscape. The traffic going to Destin and coming back was bumper to bumper and that's just not how I like spending my vacation.
