“great ocean views/conveniently located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

We spent two nights at this hotel which is very conveniently located to the airport, Sanibel and the Fort Myers area. Staff was friendly and helpful. Parking was easy and the rooms were very spacious. The hotel hallways are a little sterile - all stucco, no carpet, etc. but I can see why they would with all of the beach traffic and the sand, dirt that comes with that. We did not try the restaurant or spa so I can't comment. We stayed here to be on the beach without paying the Sanibel hotel prices and it was perfect. The only negative was the noise from the traffic, the music from the pool area and the construction they were doing to renovate the pool area.

Room Tip: Try and get a room away from the pool and on a floor near the top!

From arrival to departure service was excellent., could not have been more helpful and friendly.
The accommodation was fitted out with everything that anyone could possibly want. Style, comfort and thoughtfulness throughout. Balcony stretched from the bedroom across to the sitting area, outside table, 4 chairs plus two loungers and the whol area screened in to keep out
insects. Small kitchen area with everything you need to cook a meal if you wish. Bed very comfortable and the pillows soft - something that is often overlooked. Another plus is free parking on site. We stayed one night and have now booked a further two. Five star for us and
recommended without any hesitation.

Room Tip: Gulf view suites are exceellent value, they have side views of the Gulf and also the Pool.

This is our third year in a row for a winter visit to DiamondHead. As reviewed by many other guest DiamondHead is clean, modern, affordable, friendly and the location is great. But we did have a situation one very early morning that I think should be addressed. All guests were evacuated at 3:25AM due to some undisclosed emergency. The in room emergency sirens, strobe light and audio messages instructed all guest to evacuate. The problem came after all the guest gathered outside. Not one hotel employee or person in charge was on duty to instruct us or advise us of the situation. No emergency procedure seemed to be in place. Those of us who had remembered to take our rooms keys just wandered back to our rooms after the fire department left. No explanation or concern was ever communicated to the guests. I think after hours security and guest procedures and safety should be addressed.

Dear Mughut,

We apologize for the perception of how our evening crew handled the fire alarm. There were two handicapped guests that were unfortunately on an upper floor that required assistance to the ground level, and that took our Night Security agents out of the role as communicators to keep everyone aware of what was happening. We typically take steps to keep our guests apprised of any development, especially when it comes to their safety, but with this being a false alarm the majority of our guests had made their way back to their rooms once the fire department had determined it was safe to do so. We have had a follow up meeting with our night crew to make them aware of your concerns, in an effort to strengthen our response and communication, if this were to happen again in the middle of the night. We thank you for taking the time to comment on our property and hope to have the opportunity to serve you again.

Sincerely,

Neil Hopgood

5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

We stayed at Diamondhead for 4 nights last week, Wed-Sunday. Very pleasant stay. So much so, we are packing up the kids and heading back in a few weeks! Check in was smooth, room was beautiful, clean and comfortable. Kitchenette will be very handy when we return with the kids. Balcony was great...amazing view of the gulf. I'd prefer the screens on the balcony be retractable, so as to allow for sunset pictures, but it was nicer to be on the beach at sunset anyways. We had the room directly above the Beach bar, right next to the pool, and just around the corner from the lounge. Did hear a little music (barely) from the bar one night, but it was not bothersome at all. Was a very convenient room to have! Just steps from the bar, beach bar, pool, front desk, restaurant, and parking. Anybody who complains about the size of the room, or any gloominess, is apparently too picky. The room we had (Premium beachfront) was not huge by any stretch, but was not small either. I just cant think of why we would have needed any more space. The tractor they use on the beach to set up chairs/umbrellas, was not loud at all as a previous reviewer mentioned..in my opinion.

The staff was unbelievable! We spent alot of time with bartenders ;-) Randy and Jessica in the beach bar...very sociable. They make tasty frozen drinks very quickly, and you never feel like you were ever strangers. We had lunch in the Beach bar once, very good. Ate in the restaurant for dinner one night, amazing. Dim Sum appetizer was to die for! Spent our first evening in the lounge for Karaoke. There were crab races in the pool area a couple different days. We didn't attend that, but it sure sounded like alot of fun! They also had other things on the activities calendar too....bingo at the pool, kids activities/crafts, shakes/root beer floats at the pool, piano bar in the lounge, live entertainment at the pool on Saturday, and more.

We visited a few other nearby resorts during our beach walks, and have to say, Diamondhead is THE place to stay.

Room Tip: We had a corner beachfront unit, allowing us to catch sunrise AND sunset.

The hotel was nice. The suites are very spaceous. I liked having the option of both pool and beach right next to each other. There was waitress service at the pool which was nice. Other restaurants and shopping are with in walking distance. The only thing that I did not like was the distance from the airport. By taxi or car service it is $50 each way plus gratuity. We spent $120 just on travel but ig was great weather and very relaxing once we got there.

I wanted a hotel on the beach with nice amenities. This was it. The rooms were clean, the bathroom was clean and the general grounds were very nice. We were on the 9th floor. The staff was terrific, very friendly, especially the Bellman. I would go back and recommend to others. We used the spa and had mixed reviews (a separate review is written). The massage was average, the pedicure was great, the facial was outstanding. However, my 15 year old niece was supposed to get just a blow out for dinner when I was in my facial. The stylist decided she needed a trim and rather than discussing with me, she only discussed with my niece. She was pushed into it and it was a bit more than a trim and now an issue for her dance team requirements as well as it was more expensive. Disappointed in not being discussed with me. The technician for the facial did consult with me prior to changing the recommended service for my niece which is what I would have expected. I would go back for the facial, pedicure and massage, but would be hesitant on going for a blow out only.

We stayed here 3 nights, January 11th - 13th, and had a wonderful time. From the minute the cab dropped us off, everyone was extremely helpful and polite. Our room was a beachfront on the 6th floor, very clean, and the view was outstanding. It was nice having a balcony to sit outside on during our rest times.

We had a great lunch and a couple of drinks at Cabanas Beach Bar, where the food and atmosphere was awesome. We also had breakfast and dinner one day at Chloes, which had excellent food too. The location is very good; you're within walking distance of some of the best bars and dining in the area.

Keep up the great work DiamondHead Employees...you will see me again!!!!
