“Helpful Staff, Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

This Holiday Inn is a bit pricey, but what do we expect being on the beach in spring? Everything was clean and in good working order, and the staff was very helpful. We came to photograph birds, and it's a terrific location for that, but the weather did not cooperate. We had to change our reservation, and folks at the desk made it easy, even though we had made our reservation at a discount with early billing (which did not happen). We may have been well treated because we are Priority Club members, but I suspect that most guests are treated that well. On the downside: the scrambled eggs at breakfast were slimy - they had an "instant" feel.

Room Tip: Poolside rooms can be noisy. If this is important, ask when making reservations.

This hotel is on the south end of the strip, closer to Lover's Key and Bonita Beach. That's a good thing, because on the north end of the beach island, the area is called Times Square. It all depends on what you're looking for.
This hotel has a huge beach area.
The rooms are average. Pool is too deep for kids.
There is a 7-11 and CVS closeby for supplies.
I would stay again

My husband and I just returned from our vacation at the Holiday Inn Fort Myers Beach. The room was ready and smelled clean when we arrived after driving 26 hours. Rooms are small with a king-sized bed. The air conditioner was a little noisy. The beach is clean and well-maintained. We ate at the restaurant for dinner and breakfast - food was good and service was great. The Tiki Bar was booming every day and night. The band that played Saturday night 2/23 was awesome. Really enjoyed the music and watching everyone from all age groups get up and dance! We will definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Rooms with a parking lot view are quieter than rooms with the pool view (because of the Tiki Bar...

We stayed at this hotel for a week in February. When i initially saw the room I was not to thrilled as it was very basic but by the time we left a week later I would certainly return. It is in an excellent location on Estero Blvd with the CVS pharmacy across the street and the Santini Mall. The beach club (Tiki Bar) is incredible fun and has very good music every night for Happy Hour and to watch the sunset. We really liked< I believe his name is Dev who did an incredible selection of music that included Phantom of the Opera with props. The pool
was busy and impossible to get chairs to sit around after 7:30 in the morning. I just walked the beach for 5 to 6 hours a day and the shelling was incredible. I walked towards Lover's Key State Park and often rarely saw another person. Very clean and beautiful beach. We would certainly go back and found the trolley into the downtown or to the big food store only cost 25 cents for seniors and 50 cents for everyone else. The Santini Mall also had great reswtaurants.

Room Tip: We liked the ground floor room facing the pool and shuffleboard. had a great view of the evening sun...

2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

Just returned from a 5 week vacation of Florida and the Caribbean and after staying in many hotels on our trip including several Holiday Inn’s we found the customer service at the Fort Myers beach the worst we have experienced.

The hotel looked nice and on arrival (Friday) I asked if we could stay an extra night but was immediately told ‘sorry we are full’. I thought being a Sunday night it was more likely to be available.

We checked in to our room which was nice, basic but comfortable. That evening I asked again at reception if they had any rooms available on the Sunday and was instantly told (without even looking at the computer) ‘sorry we are full’. I asked if they could put my name down or call our room if a room became available but was told they don’t do that.

We logged onto the Holiday Inn web site that evening and noticed several room types available online at a higher rate. Later that day I asked again if we could book for Sunday and yet again they said ‘sorry we are full’

The next day yet again in the morning and in the afternoon we logged in to the Holiday Inn web site and found rooms to be available. Again reception said ’no sorry we are fully booked’

I then decided to mention the room availability online that was showing and asked if it was correct and shall I book via the web site as they clearly don’t want to book it at reception.

The receptionist (Courtney) looked all shocked and said ‘oh someone must have just cancelled so a room had just become available but it was more expensive’. I questioned why she had not offered this to us and told her that we had found room availability on the web site the past two days but we always told by her and other staff ‘no rooms available’

I felt like they treated us like we were stupid and found them to be dishonest about high season rates starting on the Sunday night and of sudden availability due to a cancellation (when caught out). She also told me rates vary if you book via another agent so was speechless when I told her we booked direct originally with holidayinn.com.

I did also observe respectable looking people walking in off the street asking for rooms and again instantly told they were fully booked when they clearly were not.

Our neighbours also found the front desk to be unhelpful. They were told on the arrival day their room wasn’t ready, they sat outside the room waiting for 2 hours for someone to go in or out, no one did and after 2 hours they were told ‘okay it’s ready now’. (Just awkward if you ask me)

I am unsure how the booking system here works, it seems a strange way to run a business, especially when they belong to the Holiday Inn brand.

We decided not to stay an extra night. We ended up staying at the Sandpiper Hotel just down the road and had a great experience. Lovely helpful staff and beautiful rooms.

We will not be returning to the Holiday Inn Fort Myers Beach.

Thank you for your review. I am glad you liked your room and that it was comfortable for you. I apologize for the confusion with trying to extend your reservation. I know that particular weekend we were in a sold out status. When we are in a sold out status, we do inform guests that would like to extend their stays, to check with the front desk frequently in case we do have any cancellations. I do appreciate you letting us know about the availability online versus our in house inventory. Evidently, the two systems were not communicating together properly. Everything has been corrected with the two reservation systems. Thank you again for your review.

Block long beach, clean rooms around family friendly pool. Tiki restaurant open to public beachside, public not in pool area. Parking is definitely reserved for hotel guests but space available for daily beach goers. Tiki staff happy and friendly. Short walk to Lovers Key beach area

We Have made about 5 trips to this Holiday Inn. We first came in 2002 and fell in love with the area. It has a great location on a gorgeous beach, an outdoor tiki bar with entertainment and lots of shops and restaurants in the area. I love that the guests are an older crowd and get up and dance like teenagers .

During the last 2 or three years the service has deteriorated. Checking in has become stressful and difficult to get the room that would make you happy. Ali and Ecward were lovely to deal with. The Front Office Manager is gruff and dismissive. Our platinum status means little here and responsiveness to needs is sorely lacking. The rooms need updating, the wireless didn't work in the room and the landscaping is no longer pretty.

The hotel is surrounded by condos. People come pouring in and use the beach and restaurant which is fine. However they also use the pool. There are not enough chairs for the guests, let alone outsiders. The management does nothing about restricting the pool to hotel guests. It is not fun to have to argue to get a chair and I feel that if I am paying over $200 a night I a entitled to a chair and shouldn't have to fight with people not even staying here. To top it all off there are hardly enough chairs for half the people staying.

We will probably come back here. I will continue to hope that the front desk will respect my platinum status and give me the room type I requested 4 mos in advance. That stress is not a good start to a vacation.

Room Tip: Ask for poolside in the 130 or 140 area. If you don't like people walking by ask for second flo...

Dear wheelwatcher,

Thank you for your feedback and or being an IHG Rewards Club Platinum member. We take our guest comments very seriously and always strive to provide comfortable and friendly accommodations. We appreciate that you find our location to be convenient.
