Just returned from Pointe Estero on Ft. Myers beach 11/3/07 - 11/10/07. We are in late 30's with a 4 and 7 yr old. This was our first time to the florida gulf coast. Here are the highlights:
1. oceanfront condo, 4th floor, fantastic, very spacious, clean, full kitchen, huge in suite jacquizzi, absolutely the best private balcony ( 2 in ocean front units).
2. pool - very large and heated, open till 10 pm. Hot tub awesome. Me and the kids spent most of the day each day poolside and even some nights as well. The pool deck was very ample and as it was off season, chairs were readily available and we practically had the pool to ourselves.
3. kids program - a joke, don't bother, again this was off season, so I don't know if that matters.
4. beach - the biggest beach I have ever seen and I am from NJ with some pretty impressive beaches. soft sand, chair rentals available.
5. gulf water - beautiful, however there was not a wave in sight, so if you want an ocean like wave, not the place for you.
6. shelling - lots to pick from esp. during low tide, we spent 1 day in captiva and much better shelling opportunity, also there were more waves at this beach.
7. ft. myers beach area - 1 main road that was quite crowded in the off season. not much to do in the way of night life, other than bars and restaurants. NO place to walk around or spend the night after dinner.
8. times square area - a joke, a handful of small shops, not worth the time
9. restaurants - not many that deliver, the ones we did pick, we were not impressed with.
10 . closeby areas - naples, more of chain rest and strip malls and upscale shopping with nice areas to walk around, think we will stay in naples next time.
11. shell factory in ft. myers, definately not worth the 45 min. trip.
12. breakfast rest - Reeses in Ft. Myers Beach, ok with huge portions, Perkins, just off the beach over the bridge, our best pick. other than than not much to choose from.
13. onsite rest - none, would have liked a small onsite cafe / rest for lunch / breakfast.
14. overall property - immaculate, well maintained, well upkept, modern. very helpfull desk staff.
15. housekeeping - they do offer daily maid service for a fee and daily linen service for a fee, we did not use either just washed the towels as needed, but they do provide you with more than ample amount of bath towels for the stay. Beach towels were also provided that were nice.
Overall - An extrememly peaceful, quiet relazxing vacation, if you want to have stuff to do other than the gulf and pool, Ft. myers beach is prob not the place for you. Pt. Estero condo appears to be a top of the line resort for the area and I would definately recommend it to anyone. You will def. need a car to get around the island.
