Stayed for 2 nights in Beach Villas (7701) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fully equipped kitchen, lovely bedrooms, clean, friendly staff. Just a little thing really about WiFi access which was virtually non-existent from the Beach Villas - had to go to reception to use it. The front door didn't close properly unless you really pulled it, which resulted in us leaving it open until we got back in one night!

Views across the Gulf were fantastic, I saw other reviews about the smell of the beach but we didn't notice it ( definitely smelt the further you drove towards Sanibel). Mesh screens on balcony very good, kept insects away (but didn't help with photography!!)

I am sure there is a reason why there isn't one, but would recommend a ceiling fan on the balcony for comfort in the humidity.

Our family had a great time at Pink Shell. From the main lobby you have a magnificent view of the gorgeous pool and the beach right behind it. You also have the same great view from the rooms in the main building. The staff were very friendly and helpful and it felt like a resort as opposed to just a hotel. The breakfast was exceptional and the best I ever had. The restaurant by the pool was good. They did have kids activities including movie night where you could watch a movie from the pool on a large inflatable screen. The beach was great. Saw several dolphins in the morning following the fishing boats out to sea. The water in the pool was warm and the beach entry is perfect for young children. The beach is great and not very busy in front of the resort.

I thought the resort was a little pricey but that was probably not a bad thing. I have stayed at less expensive resorts over spring break and they just seemed to be overrun with tons of partying teenagers. This place was not. Mostly families with children at this resort, quiet and peaceful.

What makes this resort so peaceful is that is it a little isolated. It is at the tip of Estero Island, about half a mile away from the busy beaches on the island where traffic is very slow moving and if you want to go anywhere you have to drive through it all. Depending on the time of day that could be a problem as you could be sitting in traffic for a while. Traffic at night was not bad and that is when we ventured out to the grocery store. I do agree with some of the other post about the rooms being a little dated and there was no hot tub around the pool, but that did not take much away from our overall experience.

We booked this property over the internet for our stay in June, 2012. The price was a very low promotional rate. The receptionist in the lobby fitted each of us with a bracelet which opened gates, our rooms, swam with us, and bought things for us. I was sure it would act like most hotel key cards and stop working at an inopportune time. But, it functioned perfectly the whole stay. To our surprise, our room in a smaller rectangular building, faced the Gulf, and was clean with lovely white linens, comfortable beds, great air conditioning,TV, and service. The staff was friendly and responsive to all of our questions and needs. Our grandchildren loved the pool and its proximity to the restaurant with its mango smoothies and spectacular nachos. Having never been to a resosrt on the Gulf, we were amazed by the soft white sand and wide expanse of beach. We saw amazing colors as the sun set each night. One evening just before a storm came in, the beach was full of sea life, beautiful conchs with their creatures attached, starfish, sand dollars, shells, birds, etc. We felt as though nature was putting on a show just for us, and we so appreciated this peachful setting. Our package included tickets for a continental breakfast with an $8.00 upgrade potential for the full hot breakfast with made to order omletts. Of course, who can go to a breakfast like this, smell the bacon and not upgrade? The resort only had one restaurant operating during our stay, but beach shops and boardwalk type food was available a short walk away. Finally, on the day of our departure, we had a late flight, but had to check out of our room by 11:00. We were able to enjoy the beach again that day because the spa on the property was available to guests for showering. What a treat that spa was! They made all of their products, soaps, shampoos, creams, towels etc., available to us. If we could get those same rates again, we wouldn't hesitate to go back to the Pink Shell.

My husband and I spent two wonderful nights at Pink Shell hotel and resort. The staff were extremely helpful, pleasant and friendly. Our room was in the Sanibel View building. It was very tasteful, simple clean lines with a spa like decor. Modern and up-to-date/spotlessly clean. The 3 pools were fun, they had a child-like appeal and I'm sure kids LOVE these features. There was a huge octapus overlooking a cascading waterfall....fun even for this couple celebrating 25 year anniversary and no kids! I would say it was an ideal family. Fantastic buffet breakfast - what a selection of fresh, beautiful foods! Easy access to the lovely Gulf. Surprisingly to me the water was brakish and brown due to a river running through this area. The Bongo bar had excellent drinks and bartender the friendliest! We had a late night flight, they let us use the facility all day after check out and then shower in their lovely spa ~ a real treat! I would love to go back to Pink Shell Hotel ~ it would be a fantastic spot to bring grandkids or family.

We stayed Sept. 16-20, and ended up in Room 7101, which is in the Estero Island Beach Villas. The resort was probably less than 50% full, which was great for us. Our experience was mixed, because the Beach Villas was quiet (great for sitting outside-no kids screaming or pool noise) but removed and almost forgotten/ignored at times.

We got a great deal, since we live in Fort Lauderdale (Florida Residents) and got a great off-season rate. We love the zero-entry Octopool, and the kids splash pool. The breakfast was amazing ($16 pp, kids eat free), and we ate at the pool cafe one night for dinner, which was good. Kids loved the beach, soft powder sand that doesn't get hot during the day, but the water isn't clear/blue like you are expecting.

The room was a bit tired-paint peeling, spackle showing, no remote for the DVD player, etc. And the gate going from the Estero Beach Villas didn't work for 2 of the 4 days we were there, which was super annoying. We had to jump the fence and deal with it, but anyone older wouldn't be able to do that.

We'd return, but only for a good price, and we'd think twice about staying in the Estero building.

Room Tip: White Sands is the main building, Estero Beach Villas and Captiva Island Villas are the next ring of...

We stayed in the Captiva Villas last weekend (9/15-9/16). The negatives outweigh the positives. Service was the best thing about the resort. Everyone was helpful and genuinely nice.

Yes, the room was nice. but not worth the $250 a night they charge! I would pay maybe in the 150's for that room. We were the only room on the floor right next to Jacks restaurant which held a wedding the night we were there. It was very awkward every time we went by we had to walk through the party and crowds of wedding guests to get to the elevators. The music literally vibrated our walls until midnight. Its a good thing were young because I doubt an older couple would of put up with the noise and base.

The beach is not what it used to be. Were from Ft. Lauderdale and I can honestly say the beaches on the east coast are now nicer then the west coast. FMB's water was murky and green and smelled like dead fish. It was disgusting. I thought we were swimming in a lake We will not return to Fort Myers beach just because of the ocean. Yuck. Also, they shouldn't charge to use their umbrellas and chairs. that's ridiculous. you are already paying for the room.

The resort itself is in need of a upgrade. Everything is run down. especially the restaurant Bongos. That place looks like a storage room with really cheap tables and chairs thrown inside of it. You cant even tell its a restaurant. We had to ask three people were it was to find it. There was no signs of any kind directing you where to go.

With all the money they charge for the rooms you really have high expectations for this resort and we didn't feel we were satisfied with the value they provided. They need to spend the money they get from the guests and upgrade the resort!

We will NOT return.

Room Tip: Dont stay on the 1st floor of the captiva villas if theres a event going on in the ballroom! your wa...
