We ate at Matanzas Restaurant on December 3rd. It was the worst meal I have ever had eating out and I'm not a picky eater. The garden salad was fine. The baby carrots had been soaking in water so long they were like little sponges. The rice had a terrible flavor that is hard to describe and was very dry. The coconut shrimp was tough. I would not recommend this restaurant. There are other places in that area that had much better food and better parking.

Had Swordfish lunch special (Mon.4/23) with fries and a bowl of Conch Chowder. Fresh, hot, nicely seasoned. Chowder was good, and quite spicy for me, has a tomato base. They give you a carafe to refill your drink. Key Lime pie was good; small slice.
Table was waterside; it was a good choice to stay for dessert as we saw dolphins.
Friendly service- Hostess (Connie) waitress (Rosario)
We inquired about the place around 11:30 and parked in their lot, walked around FMB (stayed cool by going in and out of shops) and dined at 2- then off to Lover's Key - a perfect day.

We ordered Stone Crab Claws that were on the menu, and given Snow Crab. Upon bringing this up to the waitress, she stated that these were Stone Crab claws..but they come in different shapes and sizes. Upon pushing this point, she stated that they did not have Stone Crab as if it was ok to substitue any type of crab.

I ordered a blackened fish sandwich to replace the first selection, and it arrived blackened on the outside, but was raw and cold. It was not edible.

Their signature dinner that night was grouper with vegetable and cheese. It was horrible!!!

The outside dining area smelled of boat fumes and dead fish...

The waitress was unattentive, rude and non-apologetic...and they did not offer to fix any of the problems we encountered.

We have been to Matanzas when we were out with our boat because you can "park" your boat right at the restaraunt. They have geat seafood (see our fotos). You can sit right next to the water with pelicans watching you having lunch or dinner.

We ate at Matanzas Inn during our last vacation at Fort Myers Beach.

We were seated in a table with a head-on view of the boats docked in the nearby marina. Thats the end of the good news.

The salad that came with the meal had good ingredients but was dried out and warm. My salad came with a bleucheese dressing that was even worse than Kraft. My wife could not finish this stale salad.

They proudly served us a bread basket. This bread basket had two stale buns and then they served it with a bowl full of butter slices. We were both puzzled by this. As hungry as we were, we did not touch these buns.

My dish was a "house specialty" stuffed grouper with crabmeat and cheese. The presentation was unappetizing with a thick, burnt crust of cheese on top. When I removed the cheese, it exposed the crabmeat stuffing, rich with crabmeat and shrimp, but also had an aftertaste of mayonnaise. At least the grouper itself was fresh and tender tasting.

The dessert selection was uninteresting so we skipped dessert.

Our impression- there are better places to eat than Matanzas Inn.
