This is really a Family Beach. The smallest children are safe - you never hear of any fatality. The beach is safer than many pools! If You like a lot of people, stay at Times Square and bathe with hundreds of sun-seekers. But if you love tranquility, move down south Estero Blvd 4-5 miles and you think you are alone. Walk the last two miles and you discover that this beach changes every day. The tides work well remodeling the south beach daily. Before 10 AM and after 4 PM, if not too many visitors have walked by, you can see marsh rabbits. Little fellows, living on the island, without fresh water, chewing sea-grape leaves instead. Flamingo-pink Spoonbills, Egrets, Sandpipers, Pelicans, all kinds of sea-gulls, ospreys and endless bigger and smaller feathered friends attract photographers. Best of all, Fort Myers Beach does not have a Sand beach! Sand would burn your feet under the hot sun. In fact the beach is covered in Shell powder, which does not contain pyrite like sand does.
