“Our family had a great time! Almost perfect!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

We spent four days here with our two boys, 12 and 15, and absolutely loved it! Our room was spacious and clean, the staff was very friendly, the pool was small but well maintained, and we were right on the beach for a great price. The best part was the large deck and the tiki bar. There was live music several nights per week, and it was great to sit on the deck with a frozen drink, listen to the music and watch the beautiful sunsets over the gulf. Every morning my husband and I took our coffee and walked along the beach picking up shells. There were only a few negatives. We had a few very tiny ants in the bathroom area. The beach wasn't as well groomed as it could have been (apparently this was because they can't disturb sea turtle nests) and you had to walk through a very large pool of stagnant and slimy water to get to the gulf (not the hotel's fault). And although the small restaurant downstairs was quaint and intimate with decent prices and decent food, the service was VERY slow and inconsistent. They forgot to serve some members of our party, served the wrong items, and our wait time averaged 30 minutes. The best bet is to order in the cafe and have them bring it out to you on the deck - just be sure you leave yourself plenty of time. But these were minor complaints, and overall we really enjoyed our vacation at the Outrigger and will definitely go back again!

Room Tip: If they're available and you can afford it, get a room facing the gulf. Otherwise, the pool vie...

Just spent the weekend in Fort Myers Beach, FL. This was our first visit to this very quaint, fun little island - and definitely won't be our last! Outrigger Resort was the perfect choice of accommodations - inexpensive, located mere steps from the beach, super friendly staff - can't say enough positive things about it! Can't wait to visit for longer than a weekend! We chose the garden view efficiency, which we loved for the private, single apartment feel it offered. Had the breakfast buffet in their Deckside Cafe a couple of times. Food was just ok, but for the price (morning breakfast buffet), it served its purpose. The location at the south end of the beach was ideal - lots of beach area without huge crowds (helped a lot that August is off season, which we were pleasantly surprised to learn). Already thinking about when we can return! And with regard to previous reviews - yes, there is a semi-dated aspect to the resort, but IMHO, that's what makes it great & very quaint. The staff was great, the accommodations were comfortable & clean - highly recommend it!!

I am a bit confused with this statement as it is clearly marked on our website that we waive the cancellation fee if there is a named storm threatening Florida. We live here and we understand the need to be home if a storm is threatening. I am sure that if this guest will contact me directly we can come to an amenable conclusion.

As we got into our room it seemed so old and damp,it took us some time to figure out how to use the wash hand basin after all the twisting and turning it had to be pulled up. No Instruction's at all
Its a good thing that we stayed 1 night because it was a nightmare to sleep with an old rickety air conditioning unit which sounded like a train was passing through our room, if we turned it of we cooked because it was so hot and if we left it on no sleep at all.
As for the bed I reckon I would have had a comfortable sleep on a garden hedge uncut, I felt worst off after trying to sleep as I said a total nightmare. Then first thing in the morning room service nearly banged off the door ot ask if we wanted anything...I wanted a bat to club the woman after a nightmare experince that night.

We stayed at The Outrigger Beach Resort on July 13 for 3 nights. We had a garden eff. it was perfect, very quiet on the north end of the property. Well appointed with a Fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, plate/glasses/cutlery, which was all very clean. Indoor dining table, plus an outdoor patio in the back with a small bistro set. The pool area was very nice, which is adjoined to a large sundeck with lounger and many table outfitted with tiki type umbrellas. The Tiki Bar was also great, Phil and Jimmy took car of us, the $2 drafts were my fav, my wife preferred the frozen drinks. The live entertainment was a nice touch 5-8 on Friday, 2-5 Sat. & Sun. We also watched the sunset from the Tiki Bar, and the adirondack chairs where handy too. The onsite restaurant was great, good breakfast buffet for $9, the a la carte menu had much variety too open from 7am-9pm. Onsite laundry about $3/per load, that includes soap/wash/dry. The beach was AMAZING the Gulf was 85degrees, searching for shells can keep you busy. OBR has an Activity Centre, you can book dolphin tours, parasailing and Waverunners. The Mid-Island Watersports (not affiliated to OBR) are available a short walk down the beach at the Holiday Inn. $85/hr, but you must remain within site of the rental kiosk. The Activity Centre also offers t-shirts, snorkels, novelty items, the prices compare to any place on the Beach. We also ate a Charlie's Boathouse across the street (10% disc) if staying at OBR. The steak and shrimp was great, most meals come with a huge 55 items salad bar. Also across the street is a 7-11 should you feel the need. We also took advantage of LeeTran Trolley. $0.50/ one way trip down to town.

Room Tip: Be wary some Beach Front Effec. are located on the 4th floor, which do not have an elevator

Stayed there with 3 families over 4th of July last year. The beach is unbelievably perfect for small children.. powdery white sand stretched really far before you actually hit the water.. the hotel is right up against the sand so the location can't be beat! It was not expensive, even for a holiday weekend so that's where the 3 stars come in. The room itself is OLD, with old furniture, old bathroom fixtures, old kitchen appliances... in its defense, everything worked just fine and the room was spacious with separate seating area and kitchenette. There wasn't an elevator so staying on the 4th floor, with 2 toddlers climbing up and down the stairs was a mission. Breakfast did not impress - better off driving down Estero Blvd to find local diners. I hope they renovate and update the room and decor, because this place could be amazing!

This was my second time at the OBR and all I can say is that this place is Heaven. BEAUTIFUL !! The service is excellent I would say better than any five star hotel. Rooms are spotless and well equipped, especially the efficiency rooms. First time I stayed on an oceanfront and it was so worth the extra fee, to wake up in the morning and take a look at the view is PRICELESS. The cafe downstairs is good for lunch and brunch but I don't recommend the breakfast buffet (too basic for my liking). The reason why I gave 4 stars and not 5 is because the hotel is dated and simple. No sparkles or any luxury at all, yet the price says it all. I would definetly go back in fact , I can't wait to go back!! This place is perfect for a family traveling on a budget. The location is perfect.

Tip
Right accross the street there is a movie theater where you can dine and the food was very good!! The menu selection is similar to a Chili's kind of restaurant, but the food is way better. I recommend for an evening out with the family. Also Times square is about a 5 mile drive where there is this beautiful Pier and lots of restaurants and stores to hang out at night.

Room Tip: Ocean front all the way!! You won't regret paying the extra money
