Some of the best food in Fort Myers.
We drove by signs for a "Tapas and Wine Bar" several times before finally pulling in to try it after MadFreshTakeOut was closed. It's in a depressing stip mall - which seems to be a theme of good dining in SWFL - so do not let appearances fool you.
From the tapas menu we had:
Gorgonzola stuffed plums, wrapped in Proscuitto - This is a must order. We ended up ordering another round of these because they were so delicious. Such a rich balance of taste and textures.
Short ribs - incredibly tender and juicy
Green beans - these were battered and fried - a very good side, but would have benefitted from a sauce/glaze on their own
Baked Goat Cheese - covered in red pepper sauce, delicious
From that point on, all the entrees were just as delicious. My wife raved about the Truffles Cheese Sacchetti (handmade pasta filled with truffles, ricotta, & mozzarella).
For desert, we had the delicious homemade Tiramisu (very nice notes of brandy). They also offer cannolis, flan, cheesecake, and panna cotta.
The food is so good I was shocked. I kept wondering through dinner what this amazing restaurant was doing in a beleaguered strip mall in an area full of disappointing restaurants. We spoke with the owner, Gloria, who is charming - and gives the impression she really cares for the restaurant and her customers.
Only critiques: could use a bit more ambiance - and I don't believe they have a full bar. Difficult to locate off of 41 (make sure you know where to turn ahead of time).
