“back to the fifties”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013

My husband is a collector of Fifties items, so it was his idea to have diner at Mel's diner. I loved the food and the ambiance. We shared the best keylime lemon pie I had in a long time!

“A back in time breakfast !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

Stopped in for breakfast at a friend's suggestion. A 'back in time' diner ... good breakfast menu, good food, good value. Half expected to see Vera and Flo waiting on tables. Waffles, pancakes, eggs benedict, and omelets were enjoyed by all. Also heard they make a great corned beef sandwich at lunch time. Worth the visit !

“Quintessential Diner: atmosphere, food, and all”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

My party of three had dinner at Mel's Diner and had a taste for pasta, which could be risky at a self-described diner, especially with a price of less than $10 a meal. We were pleasantly surprised, especially with the portions. We had the Chicken Alfredo with Broccoli, The Shrimp a la Roma Parmesan, and the Chicken Parmesan. All of the dishes were tasty, if not fine cuisine. The portions where large, especially for the Chicken Parmesan. There were 3 large, fried chicken breasts tossed on a bed of pasta covered with a creamy cheese sauce. Way too much for one person to eat, so be prepared to ask for a take-out box. The shrimp and chicken pastas were good too and the shrimp were not, shall we say, shrimpy. The menu had lots of variety so it seems there would be something to please almost any taste.

The service was prompt and friendly. The decor was from the 50s-60s era with posters of Elvis, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, and old movies interspersed among various other nostalgic items from days gone. It can be a little noisy, but what do you expect for a diner. It is a good place to go to get a high value of food in terms of the portions served for the $$. For that it is hard to beat. Come hungry, spend little.

“Fine Value at Mel's”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

This restaurant in North Ft. Myers on Pine Island Road is always dependable. The menu offers lots of comfort food and daily specials. The servings are very large. I recently ordered the Beef Stroganoff; I ate 1/3 at the table and took the rest home for another 2 lunches! The waitstaff is always pleasant. We have eaten there many times and have never been disappointed.

“Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

We stayed overnight at the hotel next door and got breakfast there so we never had the opportunity to eat at Mels, we had to go in though and have a coffee and milkshake as it looked so amazing and we weren't disappointed. We chatted to Bill the manager who knew everyone who came in and the atmosphere was brilliant. It has a great menu and we were disappointed we had already eaten. He understood that a diner isn't just about the food but about the people and I wish more places got that as it seems that the staff were able to chat as well as serve as it was very busy and I am not surprised if we lived here we would go a lot. My daughter loved it and we all came away with t shirts as well. Thanks Bill great to meet you.
