“Very fresh food, but pricey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014 via mobile

Going to good restaurants with fine food is a priority for us. I live in NYC so the selection of great restaurants is endless. So reading the excellent reviews for Sasse's, I couldn't wait to try it. True the food was fresh and delicious. The service was very good and the chef/owner was very friendly. Food was a cut above. The prices however, in a restaurant with just a little ambiance in an all but deserted strip commercial property were equal or above good NYC restaurants. My osso buco was very good but $38 was excessive; and this is a la carte pricing. The menu is limited in the number of choices. A shrimp/pasta item is $27.

“Fantastic place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

Ok, took my wife here for lunch when we first started dating, it was great then and even better now! (20 yrs ago) Great upscale friendly place, can't say enough about it! Real brick oven, real chef, real talent! We had an old staple, 4 cheese pasta.....fantastic! Large portions, great taste, excellent service. They even served up a few brownies for dessert. Can't wait to come back for dinner! The chef even thanked each person as they exited.....total class.

“Nothing short of amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2013

The food was exquisite, the service (Joanne) was impeccable and the chef Josef Zimmerman is the best. We had an appetizer of escargot in a gorganzola sauce that was to die for. The veal and the wild boar were prepared expertly as was the pike, equally amazing. I could not have asked for a finer meal. You are the best kept culinary secret in all of southwest florida.

“OUTSTANDING WHITE TABLE CLOTH RESTO”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2013

I feel like the Godfather for this place. I went here 4 1/2 years ago and loved it at that time, but for reasons unknown to me I never got back. Possibly it's the neighborhood, which is not especially good.

Having said all that, we went there for Thanksgiving dinner and it was fabulous. Both starters, the Cream of Butternut Squash Soup and the Autumn Salad (with artisan lettuce, sliced apples, craisins, goat cheese & champagne vinaigrette) were delicious and hit the spot.

The dinner, of course, was roasted Tom Turkey with all the fixin's, including special stuffing and mashed potatoes. the turkey was the best we've ever had.

Dessert was Apple Pie or Pumpkin Cake, both ala mode, and just right.

By the way, this was a prix fixe meal at a very reasonable $26.

This place is under new ownership as of about a year ago. The new owner/chef is Josef Zimmermann, a German fellow, who is not only a very accomplished chef, but most welcoming and accommodating as a host.

“Exceptional food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013 via mobile

I was happy to see the food was still wonderful. A new owner took over this past winter. He is also the chef and he is German. I had wondered if he would change the primarily Italian menu. He didn't. He has continued and perhaps even improved the excellence of sasse's. four of us ate lunch. All were very pleased.
