We dined here as a party of five in October while visiting friends in Fort Myers. It was so impressive my husband and I returned for dinner the following night!
Morgan House is right in downtown Fort Myers, on 1st Street, a block from the river. You walk in through their bar, which is very casual and was full of people both nights. There are two dining rooms off the bar, and they are like another world. They are somewhat formal, with attractive lighting fixtures, chair rails, and table linens. They are nice and quiet. They were also full of people. Reservations are probably a good idea, especially on weekends.
The food was absolutely amazing. My dinner was a 16-oz. veal chop. It was cooked exactly to my preference. The presentation was lovely, vegetables were plentiful and well-prepared. It was a nightly special, not on their regular menu, and it was $28.00. Unbelievable value. At Harolds on Bay they have a veal chop on their menu for $38.00! It couldn't have been any better than what I had at Morgan House.
Other dinners at our table included grilled chicken atop homemade ravioli. I tasted the ravioli and have never had such tender, deliciously filled pasta pouches in my life. There was a perfectly cooked salmon fillet, stuffed flounder, and a cioppino loaded with shrimp, tiny clams, mussels, scallops, and two kinds of fish. Everything was artfully arranged; as beautiful to the eye as they were delicious. Prices ranged from $18.00 for the chicken and ravioli through $22.00 or so for the seafood dishes. Quite amazing.
Our visit the next night was just as good; excellent steak and pork chop presentations, along with oysters on the half shell that were large and delicious.
We learned that Morgan House has recently reopened under new ownership. They are definitely doing it right. If you're in the area I can highly recommend this restaurant for a nice night out!
