My wife and I were in the Ft. Myers area for a few days, and wanted to find a unique restaurant that both of us would enjoy and could not find at home. My wife is a vegetarian, so we knew it would be challenging along the coast to find a restaurant that would appeal to both of us. (I love seafood, she won't eat anything with a face.) We never go to chain restaurants when we travel, so we went here to Tripadvisor to find the top rated restaurants, then checked out their online menus to find somewhere where their vegetarian options are more varied than salads and pasta but that also featured fresh seafood.
We were intrigued by the menu at Kenwood Lane Grille, and after reading the comments about the friendly staff and excellent food quality, we decide to give it a try. We both agreed that we had one of our best meals ever.
From the start, our servers (Jean and Nada) made us feel like we were guests in their home. They guided us through the menu with wit and insight, helping us to select the perfect dinner. I started with the crab cakes, which were superior to any I've tried in Maryland or Boston. Thick chunks of sweet crabmeat, only the minimal amount of filler, and served with a tasty, slightly spicy remoulade. We also shared the monthly special soup, butternut squash soup, which was superior to what was our previous favorite soup, Wolfang Puck's version. I also ordered the french onion soup, which was equally amazing. For my main course, I tried the couscous with chick peas, mushrooms, red peppers, spinach, and shrimp. It was so simple but delicious!
My wife had the mushroom risotto, done vegetarian, which was served with the daily vegetables (roasted carrots and beats that were surprisingly sweet). The presentation was almost as good as they tasted, and the portion size was so big that she ended up taking some of it home for a snack later. For dessert, we had the pumpkin trifle, the pumpkin was so sweet that at first we thought it was peaches. As others have posted, the fresh baked rolls are simply amazing.
Service was impeccable, empty plates never lingered, drinks were always full, and Jean and Nada did everything they could to make our dining experience memorable and enjoyable.
Bottom line, we left the restaurant feeling like we were regulars. That doesn't happen often when you're a tourist in what is clearly a local favorite restaurant.
