“Awesome Dining Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

My wife and I were in the Ft. Myers area for a few days, and wanted to find a unique restaurant that both of us would enjoy and could not find at home. My wife is a vegetarian, so we knew it would be challenging along the coast to find a restaurant that would appeal to both of us. (I love seafood, she won't eat anything with a face.) We never go to chain restaurants when we travel, so we went here to Tripadvisor to find the top rated restaurants, then checked out their online menus to find somewhere where their vegetarian options are more varied than salads and pasta but that also featured fresh seafood.

We were intrigued by the menu at Kenwood Lane Grille, and after reading the comments about the friendly staff and excellent food quality, we decide to give it a try. We both agreed that we had one of our best meals ever.

From the start, our servers (Jean and Nada) made us feel like we were guests in their home. They guided us through the menu with wit and insight, helping us to select the perfect dinner. I started with the crab cakes, which were superior to any I've tried in Maryland or Boston. Thick chunks of sweet crabmeat, only the minimal amount of filler, and served with a tasty, slightly spicy remoulade. We also shared the monthly special soup, butternut squash soup, which was superior to what was our previous favorite soup, Wolfang Puck's version. I also ordered the french onion soup, which was equally amazing. For my main course, I tried the couscous with chick peas, mushrooms, red peppers, spinach, and shrimp. It was so simple but delicious!

My wife had the mushroom risotto, done vegetarian, which was served with the daily vegetables (roasted carrots and beats that were surprisingly sweet). The presentation was almost as good as they tasted, and the portion size was so big that she ended up taking some of it home for a snack later. For dessert, we had the pumpkin trifle, the pumpkin was so sweet that at first we thought it was peaches. As others have posted, the fresh baked rolls are simply amazing.

Service was impeccable, empty plates never lingered, drinks were always full, and Jean and Nada did everything they could to make our dining experience memorable and enjoyable.

Bottom line, we left the restaurant feeling like we were regulars. That doesn't happen often when you're a tourist in what is clearly a local favorite restaurant.

“Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

Everything made fresh, and you can tell, absolutely delicious. Discovered two days ago and have been three times already. The chesapeake sandwich for lunch was phenomenal, not sure how people can complain, I havent found anywhere in the area that compares. Prices are very reasonable. Sure it takes some time for dinner, whats the rush... enjoy your time here.

“Not a glitzy chain restaurant.....just better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

The friendly and attentive staff was only the beginning of a great dining experience. From the fresh hot baked rolls (not microwaved) to the wonderfully prepared entrees, this was an epicurean delight. If you're tired of the rush at glitzy chain restaurants you will love the homey ambience and the great food at Kenwood lane.

“Maybe we were there on an off night...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

The food was pretty good but it took over an hour to get our main courses and the restaurant was less than half full. It also look at least 10 minutes to get bread and water after we were seated. The restaurant was uncomfortably hot and we were all starving. I know other reviewers love it here so maybe we just went on a off night.

Kenwood Lane Grille is disappointed that you feel that you waited too long for your food. Our Chef does not like to rush people through their dinner and believes in letting his guests sit and relax between courses. Many of our regulars appreciate this old world approach to dining. Our homemade dinner rolls are cooked to order and they do require 8 minutes to bake. During these cooler months Chef likes to keep the dining room a little warmer for some of our guests, had you mentioned to one of the staff that you were uncomfortably warm we would have offered to move you to the outside patio where you could have been cooler. There are other tables out there and even though it must have seemed that the restaurant was half empty the outdoor seating is usually filled.

“Not what I expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

After reading the rave reviews, we made a reservation and wondered where the people who wrote those reviews normally dine. It was no where near special. Food was fine, but chicken florentine over chunks of potatoe wasn't my idea of great. Waitresses were loud, room is nothing special. Not going back.

Kenwood Lane Grille is saddened to hear of your disappointment with your meal. It states in the menu description that it has both spinach and potato and the Chef receives many compliments on how he serves his version of Chicken Florentine. We are sorry to hear that you think that our dining room is “nothing special”. We have a picture of it on the top of our Tripadvisor page and our website so potential customers can decide if our casual style of décor is right for them. Many of our regular customers look past our ambiance in favor of the food and our out of state guests are happy to know that they needn’t dress up to come for a quality meal.
