We had heard many great things about The Veranda so we chose it to celebrate my wife's birthday last evening. We were seated in what turned out to be a very poor location and it was very hot. Perhaps we were seated there as it was our first visit and we were not known to the hostess. We actually hesitated when first being seated there but she did not seem very keen on finding us a better spot. I had to remove my jacket and my wife her sweater. We asked our server to see about the air conditioning. The location was a table for two at the base of a stairway that went upstairs and was very close to the servers plate and utensil area and also very close to the women's restroom. Throughout the evening, servers went up and down the stairs, some quietly, others not. The servers also assembled and talked at the station which was annoying and distracting. And there was a steady stream of ladies going by to use the facilities. The waiter did get the air conditioning corrected at least for a while. It did get too warm again later (perhaps another patron thought it a bit chilly).
The food was very good but not exceptional as diners should expect at the prices charged. My wife did love the Oysters Rockefeller appetizer and her Salmon dish was very good. My French Onion Soup and Veal Picatta were also very good. The only negative on both dishes was the broccoli rabe which is not a favorite of ours and we did not recall seeing it mentioned on the menu. We selected the Bananas Foster dessert which is prepared table side. The waiter was very good at the preparation and it was entertaining for us and other tables to witness. It was very good but the portions, especially the amount of ice cream, were too large for us after such a filling meal. What bothered us the most was that when we finished what we could of the dessert, the dishes were not removed from the table. I counted at least seven servers pass with out taking them. They actually remained after we asked for the check, paid and left the table.
My wife said that she did not think she would want to return having felt that we were seated so poorly and not treated especially well considering that the waiter, hostess, etc knew it was an important special occasion.
