“Very clean, but ...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2012

We were apprehensive about staying at this location because there had not been reviews since 2010. We decided to give it a try. Everything people have said is true ... the rooms are clean and the owner is very nice. However, the units are so close to the main road that the traffic noise kept us up all night. The pool is right next to the road so if you like to just relax by the pool, this may not be the place for you. The WiFi did not work in our room, and the owner did not help with this at all. We ended up checking into a different hotel for the rest of our vacation. Bottom line, we personally would not stay here again, but we can understand why people suggest it. If you are on a tight budget and just want a clean place, this is it. We just need a little more creature comforts when we travel.

My niece and I stayed at the Fountain Motel this past week. It beats the chain hotels hands down. We had an efficiency with two double beds. It had all the comforts needed right down to the hair dryer in the bathroom. The room was spotless with no bad odors, management was great too. He was very friendly, courteous and helpful. The pool area was clean and the pool was heated, not like some that say it's heated but the heater doesn't work. I would recommend this place to anyone going to the Fort Myers area. It was close to everything too. I know I definitely will be back. Thank you Mr. Monroy

We arrived late and they had the room key under the door mat of #10. Probably one of the cleanest motels we've ever stayed in. The room is extremely tiny. I don't think we've ever had a room this small. I would say it's about 150-200 sq. ft. total. The TV is mounted on the wall since the room is so small. Room #10's air conditioner was soooo loud. Since you only get about 30 channels on the TV, we instead choose to watch a movie on the laptop before bed. I had to max out the volume on the notebook in order to hear the movie because the air conditioner was so loud (on low speed even!). We couldn't go online in our room either. The internet signal would pop-up sometimes, but quickly disappear. Never connected long enough to visit a web page. By walking to the office and sitting on the bench we could get a signal, but the bugs at night were horrific, so we just gave up. I tried multiple locations in the room and on the bench outside or room with no luck. Tried with a Dell e1705 and a Eee PC 901, so it's not my equipment.

The staff seemed nice, though we had limited interaction with them on the phone. This was one of the cheapest room we could find in the area and we just wanted somewhere to crash before catching the Key West Express from Ft. Myers to the Keys. There isn't really anything on the road nearby for grub. Thankfully we had a GPS that was able to locate dinner for us.

I would stay there again, but would bring movies on my notebook and plan on ONLY sleeping there. No activities or TV worth while. The parking is right outside your room, which is convenient.

Fountain Motel is the most reasonably priced motel in the southwest Florida area. The owner and his wife are extremely kind and accommodating, and they went way beyond any expectations we had to make sure our stay was comfortable and clean. The motel grounds are pretty and well kept, there is a great game room, a nice pool, and the rooms are excellent. For a very low price, you get a room with a TV, stove, refrigerator, freezer, sink, two large beds, a couch, and amenities. The location is also second to none. McGregor Blvd. is a direct route to the beautiful Fort Myers beach, and it is in a very high-class neighborhood. The local businesses and restaurants are idyllic and enjoyable. My stay at the Fountain Motel was far more enjoyable than I expected it to be.

Decided to try this place, price and other Trip Advisor reviews were good. We're not used to staying in small private places like this (as compared to the chain hotels). The room was as-expected, part of a cottage-type of building. It's kind of old, but things functioned OK pretty much (the TV reception and high-speed internet could have been better, but those aren't all that important to me). Check-in was OK, the guy at the desk wasn't overly friendly but wasn't nasty either.

The location was good, right on the main road going over to Sanibel which was our main purpose anyway. Also easy access to restaurants.

You won't have any problems here -- just be aware of its limitations.

I stayed at the Fountain Motel with three friends and it was a great place to stay. The neighborhood is great, the motel is actually across the street from some very beautiful and expensive homes. It is located right on McGregor Blvd, which is the main road that you take to get to the beach. We didn't have a car to get to and from the beach during our stay but we did have the option of cheap public transportation just 15 min leisurely walk from the motel. The Bus costs $1.25 to get to the trolley which will take you straight to the beach for $.50 which is a lot cheaper than taking a cab and even cheaper than parking for the whole day at the beach. The bus is not necessary if you like walking in the warm sun under the palm trees. Ft. Myers beach was crowded, but it was because it was Spring Break which was good for us. The prices were absolutely reasonable and for college kids that means cheap. The rooms were very clean and the grounds were well maintained. If there is one thing on this trip that is better than its location and price it would be the amazing people that we met while there. The owner is very nice, welcoming and accommodating. We were allowed to stay after checkout because of our late flight in the afternoon. This place truly felt like a home away from home. I would definitely recommend it to friends and family!

My wife and I visited the Fort Myers/Cape Coral area for some personal business (house hunting trip) and wanted to keep our lodging and meal costs reasonable..

Based on other reviews on Tripadvisor, we decided to stay at the Fountan Motel. This place is an older style motel with a number of well maintained and recently renovated cottages. We chose a unit with a kitchen. Everything was very clean and comfortable. Our hosts (Ed and Connie) really try to assure that everything is satisfactory; and they succeed.

Since we were on a trip for personal business reasons, we used the hotel's wireless internet network extensively. This was our only area of concern. We had a weak signal in our room and had difficulty maintaining a connection. There are other areas on the grounds which receive a strong signal.

Overall, we recommend the Fountain Motel highly.

  • Liked — Clean comfortable rooms, great hosts!
  • Disliked — Wireless internet connection.
