“An electrifying experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013 via mobile

I was pleasantly surprised at this tour of the Edison and Ford winter homes! I arrived early in the day and signed up for the 10:00 am guided tour conducted by David. It was very well organized with an overview of the life and times of Edison and Ford. We moved to a walking tour of the grounds which were very well maintained and beautiful with orchids in bloom which were lovingly tended by Mrs. Edison. I would reccomend arriving early as the museum was crowded when I finished the tour at 11:30. I learned so much from this visit and commend the people of Ft. Myers for keeping the accomplishments of Mr.Edison alive for us to enjoy.

“A must see”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013 via mobile

The most interesting fact I learned was that Ford worked for Edison in his early years. It's amazing to see how the industrial revolution evolved and its transformation. This is a must see.

“Must see in Ft. Myers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

The Edison and Ford estates in Ft. Myers is worth visiting.
The Edison museum, in particular is fascinating - a lot to see.
And the grounds are beautiful - especially the variety of exotic trees - amazing.
Take the guided tour for a lot of interesting information - great stories about 2 very interesting people.
And, you can picnic.

“Nice change from the beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

The grounds are beautiful--it's like a nature preserve. Much of the tour is outdoors so it wouldn't be the best choice on a rainy day, but you still get to enjoy the weather on a nice day. There is an indoor museum as well but we ran out of time...

“Worthwhile side trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

If you are visiting southwest Florida, this is an excellent addition to your itinerary. The estates are a stone's throw from downtown Fort Meyers. The complex includes the modest vacation homes of Edison and Ford, as well as a museum housing interesting exhibits about Edison's many inventions and a botanical laboratory. The museum also contains many photographs of Edison that give you a good sense of what an important person he was in his time.

Self-guided audio tours are available. We chose the guided tour, which was informative and worth the money. We arrived around 1 p.m. and it was a busy place. We were fortunate that two spots were open for the 2 p.m. tour, or we would have had to wait until 3 p.m. But, we certainly could have entertained ourselves for the two hours.
There is a small picnic area, so you can pack a lunch. The snack bar is minimal and there is no other eating option.
