“Must see in Ft. Myers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

The Edison and Ford estates in Ft. Myers is worth visiting.
The Edison museum, in particular is fascinating - a lot to see.
And the grounds are beautiful - especially the variety of exotic trees - amazing.
Take the guided tour for a lot of interesting information - great stories about 2 very interesting people.
And, you can picnic.

“Nice change from the beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

The grounds are beautiful--it's like a nature preserve. Much of the tour is outdoors so it wouldn't be the best choice on a rainy day, but you still get to enjoy the weather on a nice day. There is an indoor museum as well but we ran out of time...

“Worthwhile side trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

If you are visiting southwest Florida, this is an excellent addition to your itinerary. The estates are a stone's throw from downtown Fort Meyers. The complex includes the modest vacation homes of Edison and Ford, as well as a museum housing interesting exhibits about Edison's many inventions and a botanical laboratory. The museum also contains many photographs of Edison that give you a good sense of what an important person he was in his time.

Self-guided audio tours are available. We chose the guided tour, which was informative and worth the money. We arrived around 1 p.m. and it was a busy place. We were fortunate that two spots were open for the 2 p.m. tour, or we would have had to wait until 3 p.m. But, we certainly could have entertained ourselves for the two hours.
There is a small picnic area, so you can pack a lunch. The snack bar is minimal and there is no other eating option.

“Beautiful homes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

I Was able to visit these beautiful homes and grounds. The grounds are not too big so it was a very easy visit. There is a lot to see and learn. The gift shop sells excellent books. I loved the exhibits borrowed from The Smithsonian.

“Beautiful site, great tour, handicap-sensitive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

Visiting Ft. Myers from Tampa, took my elderly parents to the Estate. Was a little concerned about their ability to get around the grounds once I saw them, as Dad is handicapped and exploring the garden seemed to be a major component to the experience. Our tour guide David was very sensitive to my father's situation and was careful to use easy-to-navigate paths, ramps, and walked slowly enough for us to keep up. This was much appreciated, and my parents were glad to be able to experience the whole tour. The gardens are beautiful and starting to be in bloom for the spring. Huge bougainvilla and several orchids are not to be missed. Many unusual varieties that our guide told us about. The homes are well-maintained, and furnished to the period. Antiques there kept my mom interested, as did the nice gift shop with local as well as generic souveniers. Museum left something to be desired. Not laid out very well and exhibits are a bit dry. Overall, though, so glad that the City of Fort Myers has made the effort to preserve this lovely site.
