I read the reviews before we went, and I was a little worried.... Well, there was a little peeling paint in our room, and the hotel is in need or renovation, but....I loved it. Our room reminded me of a cottage beach rental from the old days. It was like being in the old Florida we all used to know and love - before the super highways and condos and millions of people moved in. This hotel has such ambiance! And the reason for the poor upkeep is because the locals told us that within 5 years this hotel will probably be gone, and replaced with yet, another huge and ugly highrise. It's only a matter of time. So why would they put any large amount of money into renovation when we all know its time is limited. Last year we stayed at the 5-star rated hotel just down the street, paid way too much money (including a ridiculous amount just to park at the hotel), and did not enjoy it nearly as much as we did this place. Our room was clean, and the management was very nice, and this was a great place to just sit out at the pool or on their great veranda and enjoy the beach. If you're looking for an uppity 5 star resort and want to spend a lot of money, this is NOT the place for you. If you want to travel back in time and enjoy Florida the way it used to be (and still have money left over to enjoy your vaction), then this is just the place! I will truly miss this hotel when it's gone.

i travel to fort lauderdale every week, andi have stayed at the hyatt regency pier 66 ($250/nite), the amerisuites on 17th street ($190 / nite), the embassy suites ($220 / nite) the extended say america ($130 / nite) and a few others i would prefer to forget. dollar for dollar the avalon waterfront is by far the best !! . . . location location location !! walk to everything !! wake up and you are on the beach !! terrific atmosphere, nice people, quaint and charming, with a porch that feels like home.

the good: location cant be beat !! close enough yet not on top of all the nite life, see the beach, 45 seconds later you are on the beach !! wireless high speed internet, the pool, the porch, the colors and rooms, free parking !! breakfast was ok.

the not so good: most hotels still have some work after the hurricane, the mariots pool wasnt working at all !! . . . there are a few items left to fix, also, contruction is a bit loud durring the day (next door), that looks like it is nearing completion (at least the noisy stages)

summery: rather stay here then the big hotels !!, if you want a great breakfast, go the the embassy suites, a really really quiet room, go to the hyatt regency (and get ready to pay for parking !!), if you want to stay in a run down room that is niosy and nasty, try the amerisuites on 17th street, but be prepared in all of those places, to hop in the car to get to the beach!! or wake up there at the avalon.

I stayed with my kids there for a couple of days. It is an older hotel and nothing fancy, but the room was clean and the location is great, right across from the beach and close to shopping and restaurants. The staff and management were very nice and helpful and very family friendly. The Complimentary Continental Breakfast was phenomenal compared to other hotels.
Definitely, I will come back !

If you want a cheap place to stay then this is the one,our room was clean but the shower handle fell off, only one light worked so most of the room was dark, the only electric socket working was in the bathroom so we made coffe in there, there was a fridge and microwave but nowhere to plug them in.We stayed in the back building which is in need of renovating, there was a gap around the door and the lock seemed very flimsy, breakfast was ok enough for us anyway. In all we would not stay here again unless it was renovated.

This is the worst hotel i have ever seen in my life. It is nothing like you would expect looking at the pictures on the website. We arrived at the Waterfront Inn in Ft Lauderdale and walked into the dingy room where the front desk was. There was no one there, we waited about 15 minutes until someone finally appeared to check us in. The customer service was nothing great she just handed us our one hotel key with the room number taped to it. We found the room which was on the third floor so we had to carry all our luggage up three flights of stairs. We walked into the room and it was discusting. The paint was peeling off the walls and ceiling, parts of the floor looked ripped up, the bathroom very dirty and the "kitchenette" area looked gross and dirty and located right next to the bed. My boyfriend and I just looked at each other and were like "this is not what i expected". The furniture looked like the original and there were stains on everything. We both felt pretty uncomfortable. We decided to look around for another hotel in the area which we knew might be a difficult task considering it was spring break. We both felt like the walls were going to collapse any second and we did not feel safe leaving our luggage there so we lugged it back down the stairs and back into the car. We found a much better hotel down the road and checked out of Waterfront Inn. When we checked out, the door to the front desk was locked so we waited outside knocking for a bit and tried the phone they had outside (line was dead) until finally someone came to the door. The guy at the counter did not looked suprised that we were leaving and did not ask any questions, just said to take it up with hotels.com. There is no reason to stay at this hotel. There are plenty of hotels/inns/motels on this strip with this kind of location. We ending up staying at a hotel right on the beach instead of across the street like this one is. The hotel we ended up staying at was alittle bit more money per night, but well worth it. I know the Waterfront Inn is cheap but definately NOT worth it. I knew if i had stayed there i would have been miserable and that's not fun when you're on vacation. I can't believe that hotel passed any health codes!!! We ended up getting our money back for the rest of the nights (we were booked for a week), but we still incurred the one night pentalty which hotels.com tried to get back for us but Waterfront Inn would not give us it back even though we were only in the room for five minutes. (supposedly it's up to the manager's discretion). Which was another thing, the several phone numbers that hotels.com had for the Waterfront Inn, while trying to contact them, were disconnected so they had trouble even getting in touch with them. The whole experience with Waterfront Inn was so shady and i hope no one makes the mistake of booking with them.
