My Wife and I were on a tour of Florida with a side trip to the Bahamas. We were in the area walking along the beach on the day before our departure to the Bahamas and thought it would be a good location to book for the night of our return from the Bahamas. We walked in and were greeted warmly by the front desk attendant. After checking over the accommodations we decided to book for two nights.

The location is excellent with the beach right across the street and plenty of restaurants and things to do near by. The room was clean and comfortable and surprisingly quiet. The pool area was nice but the water was a little cool for our liking due to the recent cold snap in the area.

All-in-all we enjoyed our short stay, felt that we got good value for our dollar and would definitely stay there again if we are in the area.

With Lessno.com we assumed the hotel would be a quality motel for a bargain price. I paid $160./room for a site where paint was peeling off doors, doors would not shut properly because of warping, windows were dirty, carpets don't get cleaned, bedding has stains and crumbs on it, no hangers or batteries in the room, major construction going on outside beginning early in the morning and creating a layer of soot on poolside furniture, pool had green spots in it, help wanted sign for all positons on entrance door . If I hadn't prepaid, I would have found another place to stay. Because the motel is "on the beach" maybe they think they can get away with the proce...not in my book. Janice Fleckenstine

Phone in room did'nt work, wireless internet service did'nt work (not even in hotel lobby), hotel stairs and corridor dirty/dusty and run down. No elevators - and no one to assist you to drag your suitcases up flights of concrete stairs. Doors difficult to open (had to enlist the help of the receptionist). I checked out within 30 minutes of checking in and had difficulties getting a refund of my money. Expedia tried to contact management on my behalf for several days but was told each time that the Manager was not in office or can't be reached. Yet, interestingly, each time that I called as an unknown customer, I got through to the manager and when I asked her and the receptionist why they were avoiding the expedia people, they made silly excuses that expedia did'nt call at all or that the manager was at meetings when they called. This back and forth went on for days. All through this time they were being shady with me and with the expedia people regarding the condition of the hotel and the refund of my money!

I stayed in an efficiency on the 3rd floor of the front building in March 2006 with 4 friends. The room had 2 queen beds and a pullout couch. It was dated, but livable.

I made the mistake of returning to the Avalon Thurs Oct 18 – Mon Oct 22, 2007 based on my previous experience. I remembered reading TA reviews that said the front building is “nicer” than the back building. This is definitely true (comparatively speaking). The hotel would not grant our request for a front building efficiency since we booked through a travel website this time. We got stuck with room 215 in the back building.

The room was disgusting – dirty, moldy, smelly, in complete disrepair and not cleaned from the previous guests. There was half eaten food, bottles and cans still in the room. I wore flip flops in the room at all times, especially in the shower.

Not only was it dirty, but it wasn’t big enough to accommodate 5 people like the front building efficiency. There was 1 queen bed, 1 double bed and NO pullout couch – just a chair. The front desk said there wasn’t anywhere else they could put us. I like my friends, but 3 people in 1 bed is just ridiculous.

Trying to get enough towels was a chore. Everyday we told them how many people were in the room and they still left only 2 towels. You think they would get it after 4 days. We also asked for a 5th pillow and never got one.

The only “pros” about the Avalon are that it’s across the street from the beach, free internet access in the lobby and free continental breakfast – coffee, muffins and (moldy) bagels.

We will definitely never return to the Avalon – especially since we have learned that the Merriweather has 2 bedroom, 2 bath apts for about the same price and great reviews on TA! The back building of the Avalon should be knocked down. It looks like it is going to collapse soon anyway.

See my photos before booking, Please...
I came home with bed bug bites around my ankles. We had to ask the maid service to change the sheets after 4 days (yuck).
You could'nt move in the room due to super old gross furniture in the room way to crowded.
Our lovely bath (Not) had stains in tub plus the wall at ceramic area was seeping some kind of brown syrup?
Don't get me started on the moldy bagels they tried to serve day after day.
The next door hotel Tropic Cay should be renamed Tropic Decay.
The whole experience has awful never, never, never again!
They should just tear down this outdated crappy place no one would notice not even the rude employees.
