Okay. Read all the reviews and feared the worst.
It wasnt there.
Here's the real deal.
Looking for a deserted beach, huge pool, kick back, get lost in nature. Wrong location.
Looking for a great central location, cosmopolitan city atmosphere, clubs, music, tons of shopping and restaurants?
This is it. And it's changing big time. This stretch of Ft. Lauderdale beach is to become another South Beach.
Hey, Trump's building two, not one, two properties within four blocks, beach front. Everything is changing.

This is a resort on the edge of a city. Beach was fine. Sure it's narrow. But clean. Water great. And yes, like every property on A1A, you have to cross the street to go to the beach.
Shopping mall is under new management. Everything there is. Restaurants are Sloppy Joes, Hooters and Lulus. Fine for chain fare. Want great food? Capital Grille, Pier 66, upscale outdoor dining on Las Olas, and more.

Pool is small. Sun decks fine. JUST NOTE; NO SUNNING after 2 pm as the building shades the pool deck. GReat on a hot day. MOre sun? Walk across the street.

Biggest downer for us? Late night music blaring from the clubs out front. Seemed to end around 11 pm.

Did the water tax, very cool. Eleven bucks and ride it all day throughout the area and 12 stops. Tons of yachts. Tons of celeb homes. Sun Trolley works too for fifty cents, runs all over town to museums, restaurants, etc.

Would we go back. Probably not, but for only one reason: we like secluded beaches.
OUr condo was very bright, Carribbean colors. Took some getting used to. BUt was in good shape and comfy. By the way, every unit, as per Marriott's mandate, gets redone every five years, and this is the year.

Parking garage was fine. Couple of tight corners, but if you simply slow down, it works fine.

Key here is this: its a city with a beach. And tons of folks loving it. For us, off to seclusion next time.
Hope this is helpful.

I could not believe the service you get for over $250/night for this place. Tourist beware - they are a TIMESHARE property and treat their "hotel" guests differently from their TIMESHARE guests. This means, you will have to pay the 4 star prices, but get 2 star service. First, they would not get me a late checkout (they said 10 am is normal and 11am is an extension which is all they can do for us!) even though we came in late and barely got any sleep. To top that all off, at exactly 10:40 am the next morning (before the 11am checkout time), housekeeping knocked on our door and asked when we planned on leaving the room!!!! And the door even had a privacy sign on it!!!! Now, I'm not a big complainer, but come on, they couldn't even wait the full 20 minutes we still had to check out! And most hotels have 12 pm as their regular checkout. Then they said they can't do anything about it, even talking to the manager because they are "not really a hotel" - even though they don't advertise that on Marriott's website, so it's very misleading in my opinion. If you're expecting a lot of service for your money, this is NOT your place. The lady last night was also quite short with us when I tried to get an extension. You will not be given any kind of special treatment here. I will note, however, that the manager did give me a $50/credit for my trouble, but that's off a $270/night price, so it was not a lot of comfort.

The room - let me say - is nothing exceptional, the bedspreads looked worn and there wasn't even a desk for business travelers who need to use the Internet. There is a microwave oven and mini fridge that helps if you plan on staying there longer than a night, but otherwise, those amenities aren't very useful. We only stayed one night and wanted to run back to the Renaissance (where we were the 2 nights before) because we couldn't stand the service and the impersonal place.

I booked at this "hotel" because many reviewers said this is over a shopping mall and across from the beach, and therefore the location sounded great. It ended up not being worth it at all because it rained so we were stuck inside the hotel and didn't get a chance to go on the beach (which is a thin strip of sand that you can get to after crossing a busy street). The "hotel" is over several restaurants and shopping center, but the food at 2 of the places was really horrible, so we didn't think being there made a difference (stay away from the pizza restaurant there, it was the worst pizza I've ever had).

Despite the bad review, the beds were comfortable and there is a small balcony to step out on. It wouldn't be bad if say, it were less than $100/night. But for $270/night, I'd expect a lot more! It was to me, an overpriced Motel 6.

We normally stay at the Bahia Mar but as they have hiked up their prices we thought we would try Marriott. We had a problem when checking in as I had asked for an intercoastal view and was given a beach view. However this was resolved pretty quickly.
We booked a deluxe room and I was pleased with the size of the room and the amenities. However it would have been nice to sit on the balcony at night and admire the view but it had no light and was also a bit drab and depressing.
Our main issue with this hotel was the problems we experienced due to there being a lot of teenagers and children in the hotel. Some parent seem to think nothing of letting their children run around corridors screaming at all hours. We were awoken one night at 2am because some idiot had set a fire extinguisher off. Clearly not the staffs fault however they left everyone standing out in the street for 20 minutes not knowing what was happening and no member of staff arrived. Another guest had to call the front desk only to be told it was a false alarm and we could come back in!
I understand that this happened on the next 2 nights but our particular floors were not even evacuated. Thank god it was not a real fire.
The other major issue is the elevators - they are appalling. As other reviews have said you can wait for 15 minutes despite there being 4 elevators!. Everyone was complaining.
When checking out I was asked how my stay was and I commented on the 2am problem and the lady just shrugged and said 'I know!. Also she then tried to charge for me stuff from the shop that was incldued in our room rate.

I would not recommend this place to anyone.'

Can't believe this dump is a Marriott. BeachPlace is a long ways from good but maybe that's because it's a timeshare and apparently Marriott doesn't own it. It doesn't even have the new Revive bedding which I thought was standard in all Marriotts. The 1 bedroom suite was worn out ... carpet torn, walls marked, burns on arborite counters, and the lumpy sofabed couldn't be slept on. The balcony was really dirty with spilled drinks, sticky floor, cobwebs, etc. - I called housekeeping to wash it down but they just swept it.

If I owned a timeshare here, I'd sell it quick. It's obvious they haven't upgraded it in years. One of the pitted fixtures wouldn't shut off and was wasting water - the maintenance guy said they are so tight on budget that the owners won't pay for replacing things or the appliances that date back to the 90's.

Beach is good and location is fun. Great for girl watching.

We stayed in a timeshare here, my fiance's brother gave us a week as they could not use it so we chose to go to Ft Lauderdale. I believe most of the people staying here were time share holders.
THE GOOD: Well stocked room, glasses, plates, silverware, coffeemaker, microwave and sink. We had an intercoastal view, I recommend this as the ocean view rooms are right above a bunch of clubs. We heard people complaining in the elevators that they couldn't sleep from the noise below. There are several bars and eateries adjacent to the hotel which was great (for us because we didn't have to hear it all night).
There is also a little market there with groceries that was quite good. The pool was nice and the hotel all the way around was very clean.
THE BAD: I have never stayed at timeshare before so we didn't know we would not have maid service. I guess I am spoiled?!? Anyway, that was about the only bad thing I can say about our stay. Perhaps if you are staying there as a hotel guest, you get this service. We weren't going to pay extra for this luxury.
All in all, great place, great location. Busses and trollies are right in front of the hotel to take you almost anywhere.
Restaurant Recommendations in Ft. Lauderdale:
Blue Martini- Great happy hour
Charlies Crab- Excellent food, beautiful view.
Shooters- A few doors down from Charlies Crab, great place on a Sunday afternoon for cocktails and appetizers.
If you get down to South Beach, Joe's Stone Crab is the top choice for dinner! Ranked as the 2nd best restaurant in the US. They don't take reservations so go early. Great food, great service. Expensive but worth every penny!

  • Liked — Rooms were well appointed
  • Disliked — No room service
  • Tips/Secrets: — If renting a car, there is a Marriot down the road that has Enterprise car rental. They give discounts for all Marriot guests and will come pick you up.
